To cut talk short I was part of a discord server filled with a small group of friends and we all participated in a giant west march but now that the our main (and only) Dm has dumped the server I have been put in charge and now am looking for some more Dm's to occupy the server so we can get some 5e games up and running.
As a quick disclaimer the server is based around fun more than anything else so it has some homebrew and custom rules. If you hop in ill review them with you and you can see if they are good for you.
If you are interested, Here is the premise for the server and some of the basic fundamentals it runs off of.
What we use: We primarily use Tabletop Sim but are not opposed to Roll20 or theater of the mind.
West March Description: "A West March is a special experience to say the least, and in turn the same can be said for the games on this server. There is no overarching plot but an overarching environment, the lands completely open and players are the complete driving force to a story's start, middle, and end. Session happen by player initiative, the world is your book and you only need to present your ambition to a Dm, invite who you want, and a story can get started! "
Basic premise and how most of the players started: "By Sea, magic, or other means you and your fellow colonists arrive in this forgotten land. You arrive at the lone known piece of civilization in this place, a town called "Bells" in "The Ringing Bay" as the second wave of colonists. Docking in the land where ambition is stronger than steel. Welcome to Chronicle!"
The fundamentals of a West March: 1) There is no regular time: every session is scheduled by the players.
2) There is no regular party: each game had different players drawn from a pool of people in the server that you (or whoever is taking initiative to plan the session) choose.
3) There was no regular plot: The players decided where to go and what to do. It was a sandbox game in the sense that’s now used to describe video games like Grand Theft Auto, minus the missions. There was no mysterious old man sending them on quests. No overarching plot, just an overarching environment.
Here is the link, it only has 5 uses however as the server can only hold so many people via the current group being relatively small (10 people). I don't want to pack the server. https://discord.gg/8JJBGaa
P.S-If the need of more Dm's ever returns I will update the link so maybe check in on this post every once and a while.
Hey! I've always been interested in DMing, and running small encounters/quests in West Marches sounds like it might be a good place to start! I just wanted to check and make sure a couple things are alright before I join. Unfortunately, I don't have access to tabletop simulator, so I would probably do theater of mind, if that's okay with y'all. Also, due to my living situation and awful internet speed, voice chat usually doesn't work out for me, so I anything I ran would have to be purely text-based. I totally understand if either of those are deal-breakers for you, but I thought I would ask anyways. Let me know what you think!
