Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: New / a few years / veteran Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Time Schedule: Flexible, evenings are better Roles sought: Players Game style: Flexible, but I would prefer roleplayers rather than powergamers
Hi I have been playing and running D&D campaigns off and on for the last 20 years. Played a whole lot in my teens, sporadically during my 20's and some friends recently got me back into it. I play with a group but am also interested in starting my own group to DM. I'm happy to DM a group that already exists or work with individuals. It's possible that my wife may be one of the players, as well as another friend. Both of those depend on when we decide to play so I am looking for anywhere from 2-5 players. I spent a long time teaching D&D to 10 year olds, so I'm happy to help new players, or folks like me who used to play and are learning a new edition. I have a lot of experience running different types of games, creating characters and moderating a group. One thing I don't have a lot of experience with is using all of the online resources, so if you are looking for someone to closely monitor your character on D&D Beyond or who is a wizard with the various online map resources, that isn't me. As far as when to meet, I work from home with extremely flexible hours, so we could conceivably make almost anytime work. I only suggest evenings because if we play during the day we may get distracted by my 3 year old son who is often at home with me when my wife is working. As far as the game itself, it is set in an UnderDark-like setting and players would start at a 3rd level with a few restrictions on class/race (I can explain in more detail on individual messages). No matter what your background, your character has been having the same dream every night, to the point that you have set out, guided by a feeling you cannot describe to find the source of the dream. This is the dream:
You run. You scramble through the brambles, the arrows and spells of your enemies close behind. You hear a female voice whispering "Here, here!" you run into a small cave and turn to face your foes. They come screaming at you out of the brush, humans and halflings, their faces twisted with rage and grief. You see the Dwarven Sentinels behind them, already chanting the opening words to their hateful spells. You scream defiance and send lightning bolts among them, cutting down several. But they keep coming, their weapons of enchanted iron and silver cutting into you and burning your skin. Again you feel the overwhelming desire to flee. Turning, you discover a narrow tunnel at the back of the cave. Pausing only long enough to unleash a spell collapsing the cave behind you, you squirm down the narrow shaft and into the blackness, After this the dream shows only flashing glimpses of your flight through dark caverns, constantly fighting off pursuit. You crawl though an almost impenetrable forest of mushrooms of all shapes and sizes. The next flash shows a bustling market, people turning to stare at you in horror as you race through them, up a seemingly endless flight of shallow stairs. As you run through the open gates towards a crumbling fortress, you catch a glimpse of a woman high on the walls, looking down at you. She makes no move to stop you, so on you run. The next flash shows you a large underground cavern, and you instinctively know it is deep under the same fortress. You are lying on your back, covered in horrific wounds. Oddly, they do not bleed. The charred and twisted remains of your enemies lie all around you. A halfling man, clutching a blackened wound in his side, stumbles towards you. Taking a spear from one of his fallen companions, he raises it high above his head whispering "For you, Elizabeth" before slamming it down through your chest. As your hand lolls to one side, you release what you have been clutching this whole time: a golden rod with a large purple gem at one end. Your eyesight fading, you watch as the halfling unsuccessfully tries to smash the gem with several weapons. Finally he picks it up and limps off, leaving you alone in the darkness"
Hello I am caspi and I have about a year and a half of experience in dnd. Your game looks interesting to me including the dream you wrote. The time zone and time could work for me. But I have a question for you. How would we communicate?
Ah, meant to post that part too, got carried away with the story. I play with my other group on Zoom and thats all I know how to use (I homestead for a living, and computers are not my thing). I know there are plenty of other ways people game and am happy to use one of them, but someone other than me might have to set it up originally
Love the dream; it's dark, vivid, and foreboding. I'm interested. I'm in CST and Mondays work best for me, though I could possibly do Thursdays. Do you anticipate doing play by post or by voice?
Hello! Just reading through your post, and the premise sounds really cool! I've been DMing for a year now for a small group of friends, but i'm not very experienced. We're looking for a DM so i can join in- There's 4-5 of us, we're pretty new to D&D but we know the basics. We have characters made but can happily make new ones to fit your campaign! We mostly play over something called Discord - like Zoom but without the video, but happy to try anything. We're pretty flexible for time too (GMT though) Thanks for the opportunity : )
My email is Yudamori@gmail.com if you want to get in contact with me, thanks again!

Sorry, this was posted as I had written my question. Like I said, I'm interested if you need players.
Ok, got a fair number of responses (more than I expected) some on private message and some here. I think what would work best for me would be would be Monday nights, maybe 8pm (EST). I am most comfortable playing on Zoom and can host the meetup, but I understand if people would rather do without the video and play on Discord instead, although I would need a bit to learn how to use it. I would love to meet up this Monday (tomorrow) to meet each other and make characters. Of the folks who already posted (Amariya, jinlord, wlyr and princewilhelm) send me a private message if you are still interested (and the time works) and I can send you the Zoom link and some info on character class/race/level/equipment. Yudamori, I sent you an email. Thanks for all the responses!
Just posting here to see if you're still looking for additional people to come to the Monday meeting or if you've capped it now. I'm interested but I'm making sure you don't have your hands full already.
Heya! I've been looking for a group for awhile. I'll DM you as well to see if your group is capped. A little about me: I've been playing/DM'ing for about 2 years, and my most recent groups had to split due to conflicting time commitments and self-quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID. I don't enjoy playing into tropes with my character creation, but I enjoy a broad variety of campaign types (mystery, combat-oriented, etc.). The only genre I'm not interested in is survival types with extremely limited resources.
I would -love- to be considered as a player for your group, as long as it is online or socially distanced appropriately. I am open to playing whatever is needed, though I have a slight preference to either heal or tank. I have played for about 6 months. However, despite the little amount of actual play time due to time constraints, my experience with lore and characters goes back years.
Hello! I am a new player and am very interested in joining. I played a few sessions of 5e a few years ago but basically still new and have lots to learn. I am est and would be available Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8pm on. Let me know if you have any questions!

I'm not 100% sure what play by post/voice means, but I am hoping to use Zoom or a similar program to host sessions
I would love to join, let me know if there is still space

I’m interested! Veteran player but starting from scratch as a rookie after many years.
Just posting here to see if you're still looking for additional people to come to the Monday meeting or if you've capped it now. I'm interested but I'm making sure you don't have your hands full already.

I am interested in joining your campaign, and I am free every day after 5 pm.

I appreciate the continued interest but this group is all full up.
