Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online for now due to COVID, but I live in downtown Toronto and would love to be involved with a face-to-face group when it becomes doable again Experience: New (I've played a few one-off sessions over the past three years, but nothing long or consistent enough to claim I have any real experience. I understand basic concepts and that's about it.) Location/Timezone: EST, downtown Toronto Availability: Weeknights after 5pm, open to anything on weekends. Preferred role: Player Game style: Looking for a pretty even mix between combat and storytelling/roleplaying. Casual, to help me get used to the game and systems, no meatgrinders or out-of-the-box stuff to start.
Preferably I'd like to be able to participate in a group of 4-6 people, including the DM. Seeing as I'm new, a mix of new and experienced players would be most comfortable for me, so I wouldn't be the only one learning, but it wouldn't be solely on the DM to help everyone get a handle on things. Disclaimer that I'm a straight white male, but having a diverse mix of people in the group is important to me. It always makes me uncomfortable when I notice the group I'm in is too homogeneous.
I would prefer to get involved in a campaign from the start, and one that is intended to have some longevity, with the time to develop characters, pursue subplots and subquests, etc. I'd be down for modules or homebrew, as long as the homebrew would be restricted to the story/world. I'd like to learn the actual rules without modifications or exceptions since I'm just starting out.
These are my preferences but they're not set in stone. Mostly I'm just looking to get into this with a group I can get along and have fun with. Looking forward to diving into a session 0 and working with everyone else on things like party composition, backstories, all that good stuff. You can reach out to me in this thread, DMs, or on Discord (my handle is BloodyHarlequin#5914). I'm happy to answer any questions and just get to know some people.
