Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online (Zoom and a whiteboard app called Miro), D&D Beyond for character creation and upkeep, Whats App for communications Experience: New is fine Location/Timezone: Eastern Time US Schedule: We play Monday nights from 7 until about 9:30 most sessions. Everyone really likes this schedule so I don't see it changing Roles sought: We currently need 1-2 players (Current makeup is Bard, Cleric, Wizard(ish)) Game style: We play pretty casually and RP is expected and encouraged. The campaign is heavy on mystery and intrigue with battles along the way. Backstories are important and will be woven in. We are currently playing Waterdeep Dragonheist but have varied from script somewhat. After Dragonheist, we will move into full homebrew in Waterdeep and beyond.
Characters are currently high level 3. You can join at level 2 and catch up quickly.
About you: This is an "over-40 group" mostly. 30ish works too. You should be kind and polite, you should want to help the party succeed as a whole and not put your personal style ahead of everyone else's. We play as a team with everyone working to make the story better.
Balance in the group is really important to us so we're specifically looking for female players. We have currently have two males and one female player.
If you're interested, we will go through a vetting process to make sure you're a good fit, including running a one-shot with you as a guest just to make sure everyone is compatible.
Rules you should know:
We are creating a story, you need to do your part and be engaged.
We are all here to have FUN! If you don't like something, bring it up and we will talk about it.
Please, don't tell other players how they should play their characters.
Be nice!
Have fun!
If, after all that, you're still interested, then you should definitely respond to this post!!! Your response should include answers to the following questions:
Where do you live (city and state)?
How old are you? (over 30 preferred)
How long have you been playing D&D? (Total beginners are ok too!)
Do you watch critical role? (It's ok if you don't, just curious)
Who is your character? (Include race, class and alignment that you'd like to play)?
What is your favorite thing or experience playing D&D?
We play Mondays at 7PM. About how often do you think you'd have to miss a game?

Hello! I'm Travis. I live in Kansas City (CST). I'm 50. Played a ton of D&D in grade school and high school, back when there was just a "basic" red book and an "expert" blue book, neither hard-backed. Eventually we graduated to Advanced D&D, but this was way before there were fancy "editions". I've recently got back into it because my oldest child is heading to college, so I have more free time. I've done four or five one-shots in 5e and now I am looking for a story-driven (preferably older) group to play with regularly. I have been listening to the Critical Role podcast for about six months and I'm probably half way through the first campaign...no spoilers, please! I feel like I have a solid grasp of the rules and mechanics of 5e, but not so much of the "lore" (e.g. I don't know much about Waterdeep.)
My favorite thing about playing D&D is the improv/story telling. I enjoy the combat and puzzle solving, but some of my favorite Critical Role episodes have had no combat at all. I do a little creative writing as a hobby and did a ton of theater tech work while my kids were in theater, so I'm always attentive to what makes an interesting story and compelling characters.
The character I would like to play is one I created for the last one shot, because I think his backstory is fun and full of hooks for a clever DM to use. He's a wood elf who was turned off by the snobbery of his fellow elves so he became a sailor, "where a person is judged by their skill, not by the pointiness of their ears nor the length of their beard." During his 90 years at sea, he served on many ships; some that were involved in smuggling (and maybe some that dabbled in piracy) but then had an intense religious experience during a hurricane which led him to an island monastery. After 10 years of pious study (which only partly tempered his sailor's stormy, chaotic-good personality) he's embarking on a life of adventuring as a tempest cleric to support his Order via a 10% tithe. He tends to use nautical terms and tell sea stories, and believes that his crew is his family, right or wrong. (Sorry if that was too much...I told you I like to write!)
I see, however, that you already have a cleric in the party, so if I need to come up with something else, I will.
The Monday at 7pm time is actually 6pm for me. It's a little early in the evening, but I think I can make it work (especially since I'm blessed enough right now to be working from home for at least the next 5 months). Unless there's something going on with my daughter at/for school that I need to go to, I don't think I would miss many sessions at all. (I literally don't have anything on my calendar on a Monday night until December.)
Thanks for taking the time to read my reply. Hope to hear from you soon; you sound like a fun group that I would be honored to join!
Where do you live (city and state)? - Toronto, ON, Canada (EST)
How old are you? (over 30 preferred)m - 45
How long have you been playing D&D? (Total beginners are ok too!) - about five years, but all with one specific group so kinda new
Do you watch critical role? (It's ok if you don't, just curious) - nope, but I can if it makes a difference
Who is your character? (Include race, class and alignment that you'd like to play)? - I've played an Arcane Trickster Rogue and a Light Cleric so far, open to other options. Pretty flexible on this. I like the idea of trying something new, and there's nothing that I would consider a total veto, so let's build a character that works for the adventure together.
What is your favorite thing or experience playing D&D? - I love strategizing and solving difficult problems. One of my favourite sessions was a 'heist' type adventure that seriously could have been the plot of an Ocean's Eleven movie. But also just like the fun of improvising and having fun with the group.
We play Mondays at 7PM. About how often do you think you'd have to miss a game? - rarely miss one, mondays are generally fine with me. Maybe could be slightly late if the kids are being problematic getting off to bed
Re: balance - I'm a white male so probably not your ideal candidate. If you want to give me a shot, I am respectful and supportive, my current group is more women than men for what it's worth.
Re: Backstory - I'm pretty easy. If you give me some points of reference, I can come up with something cool. I'm a musician, so fairly creative. I also just love to get a feel for things and then expand on them.
Re: roleplay - I can get into it, but a bit hesitant about using 'voices', I might be a bit self conscious about that at first. But I do fully get into the character and play accordingly.
1 I live in Florida. (I'm not retired). I grew up on the west coast.
2 I'm an old. (Over 50) (Again,not retired)
3 I haven't played D&D before, but I've been interested forever.
4 I haven't seen Critical Role, but I am catching up on The Dungeon Run and have been watching There Will be Dungeons.
5 I've currently made just one character (and haven't played her yet), a half elf druid. She doesn't have a big backstory yet. I can work on that. Or, I can make something different if need be.
6 I like all the imagination that goes into D&D and the cooperation of the characters.
7 Monday evenings are good for me. I don't see any conflict.
Where do you live (city and state)?: I'm currently living in Louisville KY. I've lived in NY, Boston, and Chicago before this so it is an adventure.
How old are you? (over 30 preferred): 58. I've taken early retirement so I have some free time now. Male, so so much for balancing things.. (Sorry)
How long have you been playing D&D? (Total beginners are ok too!): I played and DM'ed back in the 1970's. Then life happened and I stopped. About a year ago I started up again. So I'm a retro-noob.
Do you watch critical role? (It's ok if you don't, just curious). I keep meaning to...
Who is your character? (Include race, class and alignment that you'd like to play)? I would like to recycle a Tiefling Warlock / Rogue of mine as an Arcane Trickster Rogue. Chaotic Neutral - but loyal to her friends once she trusts them. But not above pranking them. She is tiny and often mistaken for a child. She likes keeping the night watch and eating seconds at every meal.
What is your favorite thing or experience playing D&D? I'm an RP nerd. I also like the dynamic of a good group of players when it works. Rules and mechanics are just plumbing to me. Essential to have, but not not of primary interest so long as they are working.
We play Mondays at 7PM. About how often do you think you'd have to miss a game? Rarely. I tend not to miss sessions. I'm big on honoring my commitments.
Q: Is the Miro app Mac compatible? I usually play from an old iMac.
How long have you been playing D&D? (Total beginners are ok too!) Played a lot in the 90's, was a few months into a game when covid hit and it disbanded.
Do you watch critical role? (It's ok if you don't, just curious) No
Who is your character? (Include race, class and alignment that you'd like to play)? Would like to play a Lawful Neutral Human Paladin, after some time on the streets as an Orphan that did what he needed to in order to survive he lifted gold from a Paladin and got caught in the act. Rather than punishing him the Paladin gave him a chance at something better. The child wishing to survive without wondering when and where his next meal might come from eagerly accepted the chance offered him and began his instruction to become a Paladin. Can easily flesh this out a whole lot more if accepted.
What is your favorite thing or experience playing D&D? Comraderie, the chance to tell and be part of a story and adventures created by like minded people. In the 90's I made some of my longest lasting friendships over playing DnD.
We play Mondays at 7PM. About how often do you think you'd have to miss a game? Not at all. Retired/Disabled Veteran. And that time on a monday I'd prob be playing a video game or watching TV.

Hi Kpat enthusiastic new player interested in joining the group. Don't know if you have any spots left. I do not meet the female requirement but I figured I reply in case a spot opened up down the road. Thanks for the consideration!

Hi, I'm Stephan and despite the boy's name, I am a girl.
I currently live in Los Angeles, California.
I am 32 going 33. (Might be the youngest to submit a request so far.)
I'm very much a beginner, even though I have been playing on and off for the last year and a half. I attempted to have a long term campaign with friends, but people's schedules made it difficult to play frequently and eventually they lost interest. I have also given DMing a try. Recently DMed a one-shot for my family. It was more for the fun of having them solve a mystery together.
I do watch Critical Role. And I won't lie about the fact that I am quite a fan of the show. But I have no expectations of similarity. And my brief foray into DMing made it clear that's it is quite difficult to do. DMs a very respected in my book.
My current character is a Chaotic Good, Half-Elf, Warlock of the Fey variety, Outlander. She can hold a grudge, drinks a lot, but likes to meet new folks and play music. In the one year that I've gotten to play with her, she's only gone up to Level 2. So I'm interested in seeing what kind of character she can become with more playtime.
Telling stories is something I just love to do. And I didn't know you could do that with tabletop RPGs, much less D&D until a couple of years ago. A fun experience was In my old group's first one-shot, instead of killing a baby dragon, we convinced her to join our party with the promise of more gold, and then that night, the dragon ran-off with our warlock, who had promised her worshippers instead. No one saw that coming and it made for exciting conversation afterward.
The date and time should work for me. That would be Monday @ 4 pm on the West coast.
Used to play D&D in high school and college. Have not played much in last 25 years, but eager to get back into it.
Do you watch critical role? Yes.
Seeing what characters are already in play, I would lean towards a dwarf fighter or a human barbarian for in-your-face component to compliment what is already in place.
Theatre of the mind. Letting imagination rule. Good mix of story/combat.
Mondays at 7PM should work. Might miss one every couple of months, to be honest, however
Might need a quick update on the software side of things, but they look pretty straightforward.
