Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online on Discord Experience: Parents must have some D and D experience but their child can be new to D and D Location/Timezone: US Eastern Time Schedule: Bi-weekly on Sunday afternoons from 2pm Eastern until 5pm Eastern Roles sought: Two parent/child pairs (children 16 and under) Game style: Casual with a good balance of role playing, combat and exploration in an urban setting
I have been a DM for over 30 years and am currently seeking adventurous parents that want to share their love for D and D with their kids. I am a laid back DM focused on running a fun adventure for all involved. I follow the rules but will not hesitate to make a simple call to keep things moving along.
The campaign will be based in the city of Waterdeep. We will kick off at level 1 with the pre-built and very fun Waterdeep Dragon Heist and move from there into an even more open world if the group is interested in continuing. I am looking for two parent/child pairs where the parent and the child will each play one PC. The parents must have some experience playing so they can help their child play effectively. Keep in mind the idea is to have fun so kids can be kids in this game. Expect some off the wall ideas and mayhem from time to time.
Children need to be mature enough to understand and play the game. My kids have been playing for about six months and they are 10 but your mileage may vary. Wizards of the Coast recommends 12 and up. My general thinking is if they enjoyed something like the Hobbit or even Harry Potter all the way to the end, they are likely able to play D and D. We will keep the themes simple and the language clean, but, like most D and D games, there is combat and character death is a possibility so make sure your child is ready for that. To keep things truly kid friendly, let's keep the kids 16 and under.
I will be bringing my own twin boys aged 10 to round out the party to six. They are both experienced players and will be supervised by their mother during the game. I will consider the same for others that want to bring two children, but parents will have to be present for the entirety of every session and must have some D and D experience.
Session zero to review or create characters and to start the adventure will be held on Sunday, September 6 at 2pm Eastern and will end around 5pm Eastern. You will need a free D and D Beyond account to manage your characters and we will use audio and optional video on Discord to get together and play.
Message me on Discord at oldmadmage#5957 if you are interested. I will be asking you some questions about your D and D experience as well as the age and experience level of the child you are bringing to the game. These things seem to fill up fast so first come first served. Once you are confirmed, I will provide links to the campaign on D and D Beyond, guidance on character creation, and the Discord server and channel for the game.
