Interested in 5e, Shadowrun, and Tabletop Simulator? We are trying to turn our group into a larger community and need your help.
We’re a fun, casual group that enjoys strategy in our gameplay...
...mostly 30 and 40 somethings...
...some of us are dads.
If you are a player of any experience looking for a group, we have 2-3 slots available for our Sunday sessions.
If you are a veteran GM looking for a group, we would love you to run games on another night of the week. This would open up more slots for players to join our community!
I currently run a rotating selection of games every Sunday night at 8pm EDT and our sessions typically last 3-5 hours. I am transitioning us to Fantasy Grounds after many loyal years of Roll20 and we use Discord for voice chat and scheduling/shitposting. We also play Steam games like Worms, Tabletop Simulator, and Heroes of Hammerwatch on random nights.
CURRENT GAMES:
The Labyrinth Dungeon (D&D 5e-ish)
Rumors of a maze filled with treasure have led you to enter the Labyrinth Dungeon. A children’s board game is your only hope of escaping the dangerous monsters that inhabit the twisting corridors.
Old-School Flavor: Vanilla PHB character creation, deadly encounters, and Old School Essentials dungeon mechanics
Unique Meta-Gameplay: Use mechanics based on The Amaze-ing Labyrinth to shift columns or rows of dungeon rooms around
Monster Groups: Iconic monsters have been tweaked with group weaknesses, resistances, and immunities in a similar philosophy to pokemon types
Character Laboratory: Feel free to roll up a new level 3 character for each session. Level them up through repeat use.
Survival: Keep track of torches and rations and risk exhaustion with poor rest scheduling
The Plague of Koscor (D&D 5e)
A mysterious plague has killed many within the Goliath tribes of Koscor. In order to survive, each has chosen a champion to seek out either a cure or the source of the infection.
You must rise above the ancient rivalry and grudges between the tribes by forming a fellowship with the other champions. Only through cooperation will you survive the harsh arctic wilderness of Koscor and save your people.
Goliath-Only Group: The only available race to play will be Goliath
Tribe Creation: You will have the opportunity to create an entire tribe based on your character’s class
Fantasy Pandemic: Find the cure to a fantasy version of COVID
Dynamic Relationships: Work together as a group despite tribal prejudices
Arctic Biome: Explore a frozen continent filled with dangerous creatures and perilous lands
Epic Quest: You are your tribe’s last hope of survival: failure will result in the death of your people
Total Eclipse (Shadowrun: Anarchy)
An up-and-coming band has broken the contract of the record label corporation that recently signed them and is threatening to release their demo themselves.
You have been hired to kidnap the musicians and return them to the corporation for a business meeting: easier said than done after they have been alerted to your presence.
Epic Cyberpunk: Experience megacity life set in an alternative future of Earth
Shadowrun-Lite: Dip your toes in a new RPG system that is far less complicated than its predecessor
Life on the Fringe: Avoid Judge Dredd-esque encounters with the militarized police and violent gangs
The Matrix: All devices from the mundane to the complex, are connected on a virtual network that you can hack
Futuristic Fantasy: Some humans have morphed into new races such as dwarves, orcs, and elves. Even fewer possess magic abilities.
MY GM STYLE:
I give a few guideposts or hooks but rely on the players to determine their next move and goal
I require a member of the group to play as the “face” or leader to help streamline roleplay encounters and interactions
I’m always open outside of sessions to talk about ideas, homebrew, concerns, suggestions, or advice that you might have
You get 5 seconds during your combat turn to figure out what your character does; otherwise I will pass it to the next character
Subtext, context, and pretext are all important. Paying attention to detail will always pay off.
I award group and individual XP for resolving encounters, teamwork, killing things, and discovering new locations
Min-Max/Munchkin builds are politely and firmly discouraged
I play atmosphere and battle music through Discord
Sometimes I get too stoned at the end of the session
HOUSE RULES:
Homebrew is allowed within reason and rebalanced if necessary
Opportunities for sub-systems and side-games (politics, trade, vehicular combat, etc)
Bigotry, cringe, sexual roleplay, torture, and edgelords are not tolerated
Religions and Gods are homebrew (5e)
Character deaths result in rolling a new character with a different class that is 1 level below the rest of the group (5e)
XP-based levelling (5e)
Alignment isn’t used (5e)
No Drow
Starting wealth and item availability are decided by the GM and are based on backstory/career
Boon Points: at the end of every session, gain 1 BP for participating, award another player 1 BP, and use them to upgrade your character in between levels (5e)
