Looking for a group to join. I live in Eastern USA time zone, and am available nights and weekends.
I was hoping to find a group that would enjoy adding a social-based character to add story depth and the additional tactics/option that would bring. Imagine that -- instead of kicking in a door and rushing into combat range all the time -- you had the option of a character that could knock on the door, poke their head into a room of creatures and say ~"hey, is now a good time? the boss just hired us as mercenaries to help, and thought we should introduce ourselves." Where it goes from there is up to the group; whether we casually walk up to the group of enemies then perform a surprise attack, or pry info out of them, pit them against each other, poison their coffee, whatever... Obviously this isn't going to take place every encounter, and certainly I don't see it happening with the many beings that we can't communicate with. Need someone to negotiate merchant prices? Need to interrogate someone? Want more bounty than the quest-giver is offering? Need to fool a character that we're on the same side? ...I'm your man.
Imagine for a moment the hilarity and joy if a character went into room with a creature boss and told them there were there to sharpen their weapons, and they hand them over...
Me: Started playing in the 1970s, played for maybe 10 years. haven't played since the early 1980s, but have been watching a bunch of podcasts recently and have the urge to get back into playing. I was surprised that I still remember a ton about the game. Age=late 40s. Still a little mystified about creating a character using roll20, but I've got it all worked out on paper and orc2pub. Located in Charlotte, but happy to use Discord or whatever. Way back, I used to mainly DM, when I played i was either a paladin or healing-focused cleric. I'm trying to break out of that mold and try something new. Have an odd urge to try out a high-CHA "social" character, who has skills in deception/persuasion/intimidation/insight. Related "social" spells/skills in illusion, charm, disguise, etc. Likely a rogue1/bard##, rogue1/cleric1-2/bard##, or some such. I've spent considerable time writing a detailed and fun backstory that i'd be happy to share. Disclaimer: I expect that due to multi-classing he is likely going to suck ass at damage-based combat--so he would be best in a somewhat already-balanced party.
My daily job requires lateral thinking. I have been told I have a beautiful mind. I make puns like a dad right out of a comic. Hope to hear from you.
