(Sum up at the bottom)
Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on here. We already have an ad on the site Roll 20 as well as that is where this game will be held but given i have an account on here(and a couple purchases of my own), i figured i would throw an ad here myself for our DM, as i am the one who requested this campaign and provided the needed material to run it as i myself lack the DMing experience to do so. Since he is cool with me doing so, here we go. The DM has years of experience being a DM over a few systems(mostly Pathfinder 1st Ed) and i can say with confidence his campaigns are excellent and worth the price of entry. Currently i am in two of his pathfinder campaigns and having an absolute blast so i can assure you, the quality will be there. Both are completely homebrew campaigns that have both gone on for quite long. One for nearly a year and the other for about 9 months and going strong. Now on to the material at hand so you can get an idea of what the setting is. And i feel the following trailer from Grim Hollow's own site does well to convey the feeling of the world it will take place in.
Grim Hollow as the name suggests, is a pretty grim dark world. Curses, diseases, horrific monsters, and superstition bring terror and danger to the populace. Very few are left un-scarred. Blackpowder is a thing here but magic is not widely accepted. There is some places that a license can be obtained and in such areas you can act relatively safely in the knowledge that you have one. But there is many places that won't care. Hiding such talents unless absolutely needed will be something to keep you alive or exempt from suspicion. Divine powers only get somewhat of a pass but even such things are untrusted in a world that believes their gods left them. Curses can in their later stages turn you into a horrific beast, diseases destroy you from the inside out, and a wayward encounter could result in something unexpected...and horrible...or blessed, depending on your perspective.
This campaign will be making use of the campaign book for the setting, so all locations in it are in and will be expanded upon by the DM. While notable npcs, locations, and organizations will exist , the game will be homebrew in the concept that the story will be it's own of the DM's and player's creation. The expanded background system it offers will also be utilized and focused on. Perhaps a player who reaches rank 2 of their chosen background profession is an Inquisitor who at that rank gains access to secret and sensitive information most others would never be privy to. Or perhaps a player makes it to Sword Commander of the Free Sword profession, gaining his own guild lodgings as well as his or her own soldiers to dilly out to jobs as they see fit. The background system will have an impact on the world around you both from a lore perspective and from an influential one. Such a thing could offer great aid in the future depending on the party's endeavors, allowing for help from possibly high places when otherwise the party would be alone in their deeds.
Advanced weapons like the blunderbuss, repeating crossbow, and cavalry hammer(and more) will be also be in the campaign from the book. For those who play martial classes or have martial proficiency unlocked will have automatic access to be able to wield these weapons with ease(at lvl 3, our starting level for this game). Feats affecting them will be up for grabs as well as new feats that compliment the darker themes of the setting. Or fun ones like the ability to hit two enemies right next to each other with a cantrip when you normally only be able to hit one. New spells as well as curses will be able to be grabbed too. Transformations could come your way be it willingly taken or forcibly offered. They have their own leveling system and if unwanted can indeed be cured. Just watch out for a bite from a werewolf or the touch of a truly terrible aberrant horror.
So to sum up :
- This campaign will be D&D5E but set in the world of Etharis of the Grim Hollow setting
- This is a paid campaign that will be 30 dollars a month through paypal to the DM
- We are hoping for 1-3 more players, while we are willing to run it at 4, 6 would be more ideal
- The setting is dark, grim , will indeed have gore, diseases, possible body horror, and many other mature or unsettling themes. Make sure you are ok with that before applying. Descriptions will be detailed depending on the situation, please keep that in mind.
- New options in the way of feats, spells, and weapons with their own abilities are on offer, with transformations also in tow if you are unlucky/lucky enough to get one.
- We will be starting at lvl 3, if an advanced weapon is chosen then it will be given for free
- The first session is free to see if you jive with the players or the DMing style. From then on it's the agreed upon payment.
- New and experienced players are welcome.
- This game will be moderate to heavy on the roleplaying and with a lighter emphasis on combat, with it occurring based on the players or the world. The backgrounds are important and will have some focus as well as the rewards that each rank unlocks with them having possible serious pull in the setting.
- The game will be on Roll20 and the pdf with the information needed for character creation will be offered and has been paid for legally and obtained as such. Though if you enjoy the setting consider throwing Ghostfire Gaming some support for a great addition to 5E.
- Discord will be used for voice though rp is certainly welcome to be typed in the in game chat while other things are going on.
- Don't expect to meta game or try to power game for this setting, just enjoy it
Here is the link to the game if you are interested and want to take a look. If you are interested feel free to message the DM(the one who posted the listing), post an application, or just PM me on here and ill get you in contact with him. Oh and something to keep in mind. The campaign will be a pretty long run. Expect at least making it to level 15 or so.
As a final note, the kickstarter for the player's guide is ending on the 24th of this month and play-testing is starting soon after. I am a backer myself so there might be a good chance we will have some of the new sub-classes as well as the sangromancy spells to mess with(aka blood spells). So something to keep in mind. If such info does get sent to me before the campaign officially starts on the 6th of November, any new sub-classes being tested will be on offer too. Would be kinda neat to help play test.
Let me know moderators if i have violated any guidelines while posting this as while i read the sticky it is my first time posting here. Thank you.
The slots left is still at 3 for this campaign. Once again feel free to pm me if you have any questions and for those who are playing Icewind Dale, i envy you, it looks fun.
