My campaign is now full! I may open invites back up if any of the current players leave, and a position opens up!
Thank you to anyone who showed interest in joining, and to everyone who took the time to read my ramblings!
G'day lads,
I would consider myself an experienced Dungeon Master, who has been DMing for the same group of players for the past 3 years, and was a player for 3 years prior to that. I enjoy writing my own worlds, and believe in a living open world for my players to explore. My worlds have more than just one BBEG in them, and there are conflicts taking place on all three continents of Alagasïa. I've decided to try and run my style of game for another group, to fill in the spare time I have on Sunday evenings with something I love doing. I've included some details related to my world below, but I suppose I had best get started with the formatted questions!
Formatted Information
Game: Dungeons & Dragons 5e Group type: Online (I use a tool called MapTools) Experience: 3 Years as a DM, and 3 Years as a Player Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) Schedule: I intend to schedule a weekly or bi-weekly session every Sunday at 8:00 PM until 12:00 AM. Roles sought: Players. I will allow up to 6 players. Game style: 60/40 split of Roleplay/Combat. I enjoy building a story in a world that lives and breaths beyond just what the players do and see. I don't like the idea of referring to D&D as a "Game that you are meant to win.", it is a collective story telling experience between the DM, who writes the world, and the players who explore it through the eyes of their characters. In regards to this, my players from my current campaign often call me a cold hearted DM, as I don't fudge rolls in combat. Like in any story, characters have flaws, goals, and while not often, die. My world is primarily open for exploration, and I've developed a skeleton for every region of Alagasïa, allowing my players to explore the world freely, and hunt down any evils they hear about in the world. My campaigns always start at level 5, and will progress in to high-level play if I can keep the players interested enough to play in to level 20.
I have a Discord server where my current players and I preform our sessions, but its also used for other purposes such as a rules section that details all Homebrew rules that I use in my campaign. (As an example, I have my own Standard Array. Players can choose to Roll as usual, or take my slightly friendlier standard array of [8], [10], [12], [13], [15], and [17].) And just in case there are some who don't necessarily enjoy it, but I do use thematic music during my sessions, through a Discord bot called Groovy!
Warning: My game may include themes and sensitive topics that are not for everyone. Villages may be pillaged, innocent people may die, people may be captured, or tortured, and the world may explore political aspects dependent on which factions and nations the players wish to engage with. My games are not intended for a younger audience, and is designed to emulate and tell the story of life in as realistic a depiction as I can for a fantasy universe, and all of the narrative topics that may be included in that regard. Topics such as these will be discussed in Session #0 amongst the group, to decide what topics the players are comfortable with seeing and exploring in the campaign.
Alagasïa
Alagasïa is a high fantasy world, with magic and mystical creatures. The world spans three known and explored continents, as well as an arctic region known as The Frostwastes, and several other hidden landmasses such as the mythical lands of Nar'shadath, Homeland of the Elves. Each continent has its own rich history full of legends, and myths, with their own races, cultures, and problems. Much of the world is inspired and built upon from Faerun, Lord of the Rings, The Elder Scrolls, and many other fantasy worlds. And most importantly, the world is completely open for my players to explore!
DM Preferences & Expectations
As a Dungeon Master, I prefer my role to be a background advisor to player actions, and as enforcer of rules either from the PHB, DMG, or any Homebrew rules. I do not guide your actions, or propel you through a story. Instead, I fill the world with plot hooks, and help you find goals for your character, so that you the players can decide where you want to go, what you want to do, and which evils in the world you want to fight. I spent a lot of time, and effort building a living, breathing world for you to explore, and am happy to encourage the players to wander the world, and to challenge you to discover all of the secrets strewn across the great continents of Alagasïa!
When it comes to the enforcement of rules, I tend to stick pretty close to official sources unless otherwise mentioned in my Discord (in which case it will be clearly written and the players will be informed ahead of time), however I can make mistakes too. Additionally, I do not build my world around the players, and so players should expect the people and creatures of the world to bare some intelligence. If an assassin has come to kill you, it will do everything it can to achieve that end. There are things that can happen in the world that the players may not necessarily be prepared to deal with. Its ok to run away! Some problems simply can't be solved by the players in the moment!
My Expectation of Players
This is where I become a little bit entitled, and perhaps may come off as rude. However, everyone at my game should be able to sit down, and have a good time, and I expect all of my players to try their best to get along. We're all adults, who do this as a hobby to relax and have some fun. Arguments, debates, and disagreements should be discussed with me after the session, in private. I will not hesitate to kick players from my campaign who cannot demonstrate respect to their fellow players and party members.
In regards to player attendance, I don't expect everyone to be present at every single session. This is, as mentioned prior, just a hobby, and the real world comes first and foremost for everyone. However, I play my games using Experience based leveling, and players should not expect to receive loot or experience if they are not present at the session. I apologize if this seems off to some people, however this is a middle ground I came to with my existing players for my other campaign, and it has worked well for the past two years. If you are going to be absent, please let me know as well, so that I can plan ahead for the lack of a specific character.
Closing Statement
I hope to hear back from some of you! And if there are any questions about any homebrew rules I do use, or about my world of Alagasïa, do not hesitate to ask! As mentioned in the Formatted Information section, I will allow up to 6 players to join, but will only host the campaign if there are no fewer than 4. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read through all of this, and I look forward to answering questions, and talking with people!

My wife and I are very interested in learning more about your world, Alagasïa. I have a lot of experience (18+ years) in TTRPG while my wife has a bit less (8+ years). Both of us have played 5e a little but not that much but are more than willing to learn. We are interested in learning more about your world and possibilities for characters.
To be honest, your DM style is fairly similar to mine from "back in the day" when I ran games on a regular basis. It sounds like you have a solid world with some good tales yet to be told. Look forward to talking to you about us joining. I have sent you a Discord Friend, my Discord is LordShadow451#6497

Great, and thank you for the interest! I will get in touch with you on Discord.
Hey I am definitely interested in your game but I won't lie I only have one campaign under my belt along side a few one shots. If you're willing to allow a rather new player then I'd be happy to join!

I'm always happy to help bring new players in to the awesome hobby that is D&D! Reach out to me on Discord, and we can discuss a little more!
I'm interested in joining since it seems like you have a vibrant world to explore. I have been playing and DMing D&D for over 3 years now. My discord tag is UrsolBallic#3793 and I'll send a friend request shortly.
I've also updated the current player count. I will update it frequently, so make sure to refresh the page ever few minutes to see if there is an open position!
Hello! I've read through your post and fell in love with the passion you have for storytelling and D&D. I've been DMing and playing D&D with my friends for the past 3 years and am getting the itch to jump back in a group and play! I'm fairly open now since moving and am excited to help build a collaborative story with others if there's space for another. My discord is Bruhaha32#9057 and I can't wait to see if this works!
Me and a friend are interested in finding a campaign like yours. I noticed 5/6 slots are full but as we would really like to play in a campaign together; if two slots open we would love to jump in!
My discord is @Simplechestnut#0294 if you have any questions
