First of all, I'm almost done with a college term, so we won't start until after finals. Character creation starts now. I'll design individual zero sessions for each player and we'll run those in about 2 weeks. Once everyone has run session zero, we'll start the full campaign - probably not until mid-December.
Available character creation content: PHB, Eberron, XGE, Volo's
I'm still working out kinks in the house rules, but the following will be the framework of the campaign:
Each player that does not choose a Dragonmark feature gets 1 free feat at level 1.
Long Rest variant: HP does not restore during long rest. Instead, PCs may roll hit die to regain HP, then the long rest restores half their total hit die. Resting in comfortable accommodations such as an inn gives 1 free hit die roll, plus restores 1 additional hit die.
VSM, loading, and other combat actions will be enforced.
Weight Encumbrance will be 10xSTR=encumbered, 12xSTR=Heavily encumbered
Hunger, thirst, exhaustion/fatigue, and temperature will be all effect players. Still working on the details.
Clothing, armor, and weapons will suffer degradation. Take care of your stuff or your sweet magic sword might break at the hilt!
Town Hall feature: Anywhere there is an inn, town center, or similar location, not only will food, drink, and lodging be available, but there will be a variety of goods and services. For instance, an innkeeper used to accommodating travelers might charge a small fee to apply the mending cantrip or cure wounds. There might be a resident smith, leatherworker, alchemist, etc., to sell wares or apply flourishes to existing equipment. Another common feature of the world's taverns and inns will be psychics. Just like IRL, the world is full of charlatans, but find the authentic diviner and you may have access to powerful features such as sending, augury, scrying, divination, commune, etc.
We'll probably run every other Saturday until March/April when I start my next term. I'll try to remain consistent, but if my next term is anything like my last, play might become sporadic. I'm a Dad and I work 40-50 hours/week on top of school, so I can't promise we'll be absolutely consistent with the schedule, but I try my best and none of my players have minded yet.
