Candlekeep is a a fortress overlooking the Sea of Swords about halfway between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. Over the past couple of millennium it has grown to contain one of the largest if not the largest library on the face of Toril, housing a collection that fills multiple halls, and vaults. An order of monks known as the Avowed maintains Candlekeep under the eyes of the venerable wizard Ulruant, the Keeper of the Tomes and the legendary living Saint, Tethtoril, the First Keeper. As the Cult of the Dragon rises in the northwest and the city of Elturel falls into damnation, evil has not left the library untouched. Something has risen from the bowls of the rock to cinch a noose tight around the throat of the Great Institution.
Players should read up on Candlekeep online and in source materials and design third level characters based on those writings. You'll be given access to DDB, R20, and my Discord server. Characters could be an avowed monk, a cleric or paladin of a god of knowledge, a diplomatic attache traveling with a foreign national, a Seeker who was able to pay the price of admission... all of which are examples of characters that would be granted access and trust by the Library.
The adventure path is homebrewed but will fit into the geography and events of Faerun. Be prepared for adult levels of horror and intrigue. Want players who are clever, decisive, and want to breathe life into their characters. You can be new to D&D 5e but no wallflowers please. Hoping to start first thing in the New Year. Contact me for more info. This game is free to play.
This sounds extremely interesting. I have a faint idea of Candlekeep, It was associated with the Gods Ogmha and Deneir. I know there are more, but those 2 I remember. The books, the Cleric Quintent was based around Candlekeep. I'd love to play in a game around the location.
As far as myself, name is Mathew, 35 years old, been playing d&d since I was 13. Love the story telling and combat, a good healthy mix. Discord, roll20, familiar with beyond character building.
As far as characters, I feel I could mix in a good warlock, depending on material allowed the newer genie could be an interesting patron.
I'd like to see if oyu could work in a Warlock, with the Genie Patron. Since these pacts are made with noble genies, my character, a male half elf found the genie's vessel, and formed a bond with his patron, a partnership. The vessel, could have been found within the vast library of artifacts within, and made the required connection. Depending on the story, he could be trusted by the keep as an agent willing to go at lengths to help in any way necessary, following the orders and teachings of the keep.
Of course, we can flesh this out more as well, adding in finer details to fit better.
Good sketch. Think about why you even went to Candlekeep as why they came to trust you. Give me some idea about that and I'll send you a link to make your character and join.
(Insert name), was born in Water deep. His family, part of the merchants guild, he took the time as a younger child, and teenager, to work with his fellow merchants. Hearing grand tales of the halls of candle keep, the vast library of knowledge, he wanted to see it, and experience the fabled place. Knowing that it took, at minimum a great book of donation to even gain entrance. He spent his youth, looking for said tome. A merchant from far off, hired the young teenager,.with permission from his parents, to help in a caravan from Waterdeep to Luskan, and back . This is where he scored his tome (maybe a copy of something rare, but you could tell it was only a copy.) After reaching back home he gained access to the library at Candlekeep. Now a young man, he worked quite some time part time as a simple assistant, and withing 2-3 years, he was hired on full time with the library. Through hard work, and dedication to knowledge and respecting all of it, good or evil, his trust was earned by the keep.
Hi, I'd be interested in joining the campaign, I dont know a lot about candlekeep but read through some lore and interested in learning more. I'd like to play as an aasimar barbarian path of the zealot, who is the guard of a foreign diplomat who was granted access to the keep.
I've played dnd for about 6 yrs on and off, 3.5 and 5e. Mid 20s. Central time zone.
My character would be a man from the city of Selguant, in Sembia. His father worked as a clerk for the church of oghma and his mother was a teacher at the local academy. He grew to enjoy novels and history books from his parents reading to him at a young age. As with many of the local children, he started learning to read, write, and do math at the local academy. He quickly fell behind the other students because it was hard for him to read, and the teachers weren't giving him the extra attention he need. So he prayed to Oghma to grant him the ability to read like the other children. Oghma responded something along the lines of; I cant grant you this wish but one day you will be a champion of mine and a protector of my followers. Soon after, he dropped out of the academy and worked at the church as a laborer. He quickly became strong and hard willed. One day while attending one of the priests to another city, a group of bandits attacked them. He flew into an angered rage and defended himself and the priest. He was assigned to guard the priests and other members of the church from then on. He was tasked with guarding a high priest of the church, whom was traveling to Candlekeep to exchange knowledge... that's how he arrived in candlekeep.
What day would you planning on playing? I'm a bartender, so my best nights are Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday - although with COVID my availability might be much, much higher soon.
I'm thinking a human fighter/battlemaster, a fighter with a noble or gladiator background who's searching for a lost manual of arms - a scholarly fighter. Fiore dei Liberi would be a good example of the type from history. When I say "gladiator" think "professional duellist".

Tell me a little about yourself and pitch the character?

Sounds good to me. Would you plan on playing a cleric? Write up a quick pitch for the character.

Easy enough, I was on that train.

@KaiserErnst25, Wild combination. Why don't you write up something along those lines. I'd love to see it.
Question: Does this game have an age cap? I'm currently 17, and I really want to play this. I've been playing for around 3 years now.
A time of sessions planed would be nice. So we don't waste your time if it doesnt fit for us. Thanx.

It would be 7pm to 11:30ish EST.
