Hi all! My wife and I are obsessed with DnD and we're looking to add two players to a campaign in our homebrew setting (link to map below).
Ideally, you will be joining our campaign in-progress on February 28th, and then every* Sunday thereafter. The game begins at 2 PM MST (UTC-7) and runs for approximately 4 hours per session (sometimes going 30 minutes over). We have big plans for this campaign and hope to be playing it still a year from now. *Some cancellations may occur. In our campaign so far, we played 28 out of 32 weeks, with one week being a canonical oneshot.
A little bit about us
We have both been playing Dungeons and Dragons for 6 years and currently have one other campaign ongoing. We DM exclusively online, so we are familiar with the pit-falls one might run into when running an online campaign. Our other ongoing campaign was also started as a r/lfg post and is over a year in progress, and still running! Besides that, we've both been avid roleplayers for essentially our entire lives, going all the way back to post-by-post roleplay on forums 20 years ago. We're both very creative souls and love DnD as an outlet for that!
What you can expect from a game DMed by us
A homebrew cosmos! We both love world-building and have been working together on the setting for this game. We both like to run about a 70-30 split between deep roleplay and combat play, respectively. We work hard (even though we're not great at it) to give each NPC a unique voice and act them out with passion fitting their personalities. We like to try to drive things home that help with immersion, such as appropriate background music, flavour descriptions, and prompting questions that make you *think* like your character. We *do* use some homebrew rules, but these will be addressed in a Session 0 as a group, and will be decided upon as a group. We will not force any homebrew rules on the group that are not agreed upon. We also use homebrew monsters and magic items.
The homebrew setting you'll be playing in, and restrictions
Our homebrew cosmos is based on an event called "The Shattering" in which a deity of creation shattered into an uncountable number of 'slivers' which then created all of the planes and all life. Giants and dragons are central themes of our setting. The setting is mixed levels of magic, but overall I would describe it as high magic. Specifically, this campaign you'll be joining takes place in the Valdarian Empire, where magic plays a significant part in day-to-day life and they even use magic to light the streets at night of large cities.
You'll be joining 3 other players, bringing the total to 5. The party is currently level 5 and you will be joining at that level as well.
*We use some homebrew rules* - the game will *mostly* play vanilla, though with some significant rule changes to cater to our play style. Without details, major changes include: an injury system when you drop to 0 HP *instead* of going unconscious; an alteration to long rests, which is not quite vanilla but not quite gritty realism rules, and meets somewhere in the middle; revival is difficult and not guaranteed; homebrew magical items and monsters will be used.
*No artificers* - sorry, they just don't exist in our setting.
*Some playable races are banned*: You will not be able to play in this campaign as a Aarakocra, Centaur, Changeling, Gith, Kalashtar, Leonin, Loxodon, Minotaur, Satyr, Shifter, Simic, Vedalken, Warforged, Yuan-ti Pureblood. Sorry! Some playable races, notably monstrous ones such as Goblin or Orc, etc, are playable if you have a convincing enough story as to why that character is traveling and generally good-natured.
*No evil alignment characters.* Though your characters do not have to be an upstanding example of good morality, we do generally run games in which the players are the heroes. Generally, your characters should *want* to be heroes. That is to say, don't be a murderhobo.
*The campaign will have a plot, but you will have agency.* We try hard not to railroad our players, but we do provide fairly large "the plot is over here" sign. That said, we believe strongly in agency, and your decisions will have consequences that may ripple throughout the world.
*The campaign may have adult themes, but will be tasteful.* We ask our players to be mature and understand that our campaigns may touch on mature subject matter, but we make strides to always do so in a respectful and understanding way. Our application has a spot for you to indicate if any subject matter would trigger you, and we will always take this into consideration.
What you need to be able to play
An internet connection capable of handling voice & video chat, and multiple browser tabs open at a time. We recommend a minimum of 30 down and 10 up. If you do not know your speed, you can test it here. A decent microphone. Something better than earbud microphone, for example. A webcam. Webcam is required! This will NOT be a voice only campaign. A Discord account. A DnDBeyond account (just a free one - we own all dndbeyond content and it will be shared with you). Capability to have at least two screens of content. This could be one monitor, and a smartphone, or tablet, for example. Explained below. Be able to speak ~~Common~~ English fluently. Be 18+ years old and available for our listed timeslot.
Because we will be using DNDBeyond, you do not need to own a single book! We own all content on dndbeyond which will be shared with you through their campaign content sharing feature. The game will be played using Foundry VTT(you do not need to download anything!), with Discord being used for voice/cam, and DNDBeyond used for character sheets. As such, an adequate setup will be required to be able to participate. At the very minimum, we recommend having a computer/laptop with robust enough specs to be able to run a virtual tabletop in a browser and discord simultaneously, with a secondary device (such as phone or tablet) to have DNDBeyond open. I want to be clear that cameras are mandatory. You also need to be able to speak English at least fairly fluently. Players of all experience levels are welcome, but players at least familiar with the rules are preferred. Players of all genders, ethnicities, and otherwise are welcome! We expect our players to be mature and respectful of each other.
What else you can expect from joining us
We are so much more than just a group of dnd players. We've become a friend group with common interests and a discord server to chat about these interests. Every 2 months or so, sometimes more frequently, we arrange a game night with players from both campaigns where we get on video call, hang out, play jackbox games or other games, many of us drink (and some don't, no pressure!), and have a merry time.
We are actively working on publishing our setting as a system-agnostic resource for other DMs, and are very interested in finding other people who are passionate about world-building who can help us design, proofread, and give feedback on our setting.
To be clear, you are not expected or required to join these "extracurricular" activities.
Please take the time to fill out this application if we've gained your interest! We will be accepting applications for 24 hours. After applications are closed, this post will be updated indicating as such. We will then select our top picks and contact them on Discord. If you do not hear from us in 3-5 days, it is safe to assume you did not get selected, and we are very sorry. We anticipate dozens of applications and can only select so many.
I'm looking for a group. I've played Pathfinder, and Lord of the Rings RPG a couple of times but were one-time casual games, and now looking to finish at least one small campaign. I also live on the West Coast.
Hey my friend and I are down to join! We've both played 2 campaigns before and both are 20. Unfortunately our old group graduated from the college we attend and there is no dnd club on campus. Your campaign sounds really fun and we'd love to join! Here is my discord: ErebusA380#5692
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS, SORRY!

Submitted an application but think I missed the deadline. If you guys are still looking I’m still very interested in joining
Looks like I missed the deadline also as it shows you are no longer taking applications. Good luck for those that made it in and happy adventuring!
If there's an opening somewhere down the line im down!
Same for me; if you find yourself needing a player, I'd love to participate!
