Ok diana if you are going to attack with spiritual weapon, you must first make an attack roll wich is a 1d20+(proficient and spell mod) and then damage wich is a 1d8+spell mod
In Tiana's case those would be:
1d20 + 5
1d8 + 3
Also spiritual weapon is a bonus action so you can still use your regular action to make a regular weapon attack, cast cantrip (yours are spare the dying, light, and mending), use an item, help others, hide, disengage, dodge, dash, or even hold action

what you are referring to is weapon proficiency. And clerics have proficiency with simple weapons.
