“ I’m not good at this magic stuff or investigating. But I been looking at this durn box for hours now. maybe take another look Ari. Ye said maybe the magic was tied to a location. Maybe we have to open it there to be safe? “
Checking again, Ari discovers that this box contains a very, very strong fire-producing spell in it. It would be wise to proceed with extreme caution.

Wait, if it has a fire spell, then wouldn't it incinerate the papers themselves?
“Methinks maybe it’s to protect the secrets. Maybe the fire goes off if the box isn’t opened in the right place or the right way. Or maybe the whole thing was a trap of some kind fer whoever is to get it?”
” I can do that with me magic, but only if ye think it’s a good idea... maybe we should just take it to a wizard”
"I think taking it to a wizard is the best course of action. Unless anyone here knows the specifics of destructive fire spells."

You could open it underwater, but it may destroy the contents, or it might just stop the fire, or maybe taking it to a wizard would be smart? Decisions, decisions, what to do?

Cassandra smiles”. Yeah methinks now maybe a wizard is a good idea. You so who knows this place- Is there one in town here somewhere? Hopefully not too big a fan o’ the crimson empire? “
You should ask around with the locals to find a wizard.

If you have the coin to pay a wizard then maybe that is the best course of action - plan B to open it beneath the water. I think either would be a fine course of action.

In my background I am part of an artisan guild as a wood carver. I assume we are in my home city because that is where I joined the party. Would I as a local have more knowledge on where to find assistance / a wizard or even ask my guild.

As a local, you know that your guild leader probably could point you in the right direction.

Unless anyone objects I will ask the guild leader for assistance - purposely throwing in a red herring and not making mention of our box to be overly cautious - people talk.
Ari pours out some beverage (wine or beer) to help sweeten the deal from the alchemy jug.
Could you please direct me to a mage who specializes in magic items? I am looking to see if he can identify any extra modifications on this alchemy jug I crafted.
"Aye. There is a half-orc tribe on the northern tip of the island. Rumor has it that they have a powerful shaman there that could do what ye need."

"I am not entirely fond of half-orcs, but I'm even less fond of the crimsons. I say we check this out at the very least to see if they can help."
(OOC: can we find some other name for the members of the Crimson Fleet? Because Crimsons doesn't really flow right and Redcoats seems offensive to history.)

Ari explains his findings to the others.
Could we open it under water to counter the fire?

Cassandra says “alright we be off to see about a wizard. We’ve got some coin. Ceesh can do some smooth talking, if they don’t mind otterfolk.”
packing up the box carefully, we head back to the guildhall to ask there if there are any mages around...

"Right. Because I have such a great history with half-orcs. Remember that really fun one Cass? The one that tried to kill us?"
Farewell.
Thank you very much for the information, let me know how I can repay you.
I give whatever gesture is customary as thanks. I depart afterward and share the information with the party.
Personally I'd feel safer opening the box than trusting a half orc with it, but I will go with whatever the Captains think best.
