Under the surface of the Azure Sea, a band of locathah of the wider community have gathered, awaiting the scouts' return. The scouts come in riding on their mounts, giant sea-eels. Breathless and exhausted, one of the scouts even slides out of his saddle and collapses on the ground.
"The merfolk say there are humans that can walk the ocean floor," the first scout says. "The merfolk don't know much more; they have tried to keep their distance from those sea-floor-walking-humans."
"And what of the sea elves?" asks Adamastor, a proud and formidable locathah leader. Though a minor leader of one of several bands, some speculate that he has greater influence than he lets on. Regardless, Adamastor out of all leaders has stepped up the most.
The scout that collapsed gets back up and rests on his mount. "The sea elves don't know anything else that they haven't already told us. But some sea elves talked about going to their surface brethren for answers."
Adamastor says, "Yes, that's not a bad idea. Perhaps the surface-dwellers have noticed something that we haven't."
It is decided that a group of locathah shall be sent to go to a human settlement in search of answers. The sea elves will go to the surface elves with questions, and the locathah don't know if other peoples such as dwarves and halflings would even know about the current disturbances in the Azure Sea or the increase in shipwrecks.
Adamastor says, "Which of you locathah think you are fit for this challenge?"
{Introduce your character as you answer Adamastor's question. Anything out-of-character can be put into brackets.}
An Agile, but strong and fit looking Locathah steps forward. He has a longbow, and two shortswords on his back, and a Book with pen in his hands.
Ay I will go, my name is Azimuth, always wanted to see more from the surface and have been interested in finding more about these wrecks that we salvaged with the crews.
I am a ranger looking forward to learn more about the beast, and other creatures living at the service; maybe even taming a few. My skills should come in handy in those unkown lands.
What answers would you like us to ask them?
(is this a weapon Locathah can use underwater or should I change it to a crossbow; it is part of starting equipment of a Ranger normally. and could I sell my starting equipment armor if so for how much?)

Guus is powerfully built, his mail and shield are well worn, though also well maintained. The symbol of Procan is emblazoned on his shield: a gold and coral trident piercing a wave. He hefts his warhammer to his shoulder and steps forward.
"I am going." he says, as if there's no doubt. "We can figure this out together, with the blessing of Procan."
Eddy shifted at the news. How could an opportunity like this have just fallen in my lap? He wondered. Eddy had gone landside several times before, particularly after heavy storms. The coast was littered with the bones of ships that had been picked clean by his salvage crews. But the opportunity to leave the shore and go out to land was rare.
Quickly raising his hand, Eddy stepped forward. "I am Eddy. I will happily join this excursion to go to our land-locked neighbours and seek erudition into the encroachment of our domain." Eddy what not exactly built like someone you might expect to jump into the fray. He was short and squat, but he had spent several years on the salvage crews, even leading them occasionally, and he had learnt that those at the front of the pack got first pick of the spoils, and he liked not hunting through leftovers for things of value.
"I have the knowledge to communicate with our landside brethren in their own tongue and would be glad to offer my talents in service of our people."
A locathah warrior swims closer, a great axe of dwarven make strapped to his back, javelins at his hip. His hide is pale, and tough as iron, and he has thick, long whiskers coming from his mouth. His large black eyes are guileless as he speaks.
“If my help is needed, it’s given. Vooaat will help.”
A large beast of a Locathah swims up, clad in heavy chain Armor and wielding a wicked polearm. "I am Gillbert, and I will help protect this expedition to the surface as well."

A small locathah swims forward, a wide smile spread across their face. They are young, with a lute strung across their back and a longsword at their side.
"I am Tack Billander. I have visited the landside before and I have nothing holding me here. I hope I can be of some use; otherwise, I'll just be tagging along for the ride."
"Then you six will form the first team," Adamastor declares. He takes out a map (which is a carving on driftwood rather than paper) and hands it to Azimuth, for no reason other than Azimuth being the first to volunteer and also standing closest to him. "This is the settlement you shall go to."
The map has no words or writing on it. The settlement is marked by a star. Waves and ships are crudely carved in the sea, and little figures of huts and surface-dwellers dot the area meant to represent the land. The map's poor quality is understandable. The best quality maps used underwater are engravings on thin sheets of metal.
{Secretfool, you can sell/exchange weapons at Saltmarsh. The same goes for the rest of you. Perhaps you could fetch a nice price from the fact that locathah-made weapons (and armor too) aren't common among humans. Or perhaps the humans will doubt the quality of your weapons and only give you a low price. Also, we are using variant encumbrance. Some of you are encumbered, but nobody is heavily encumbered. Your speed only drops 10 feet if you are encumbered. (That's not bad compared to being heavily encumbered; your speed would drop by 20 feet and give you disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws using the STR, DEX, or CON stat.) None of you will have any problems with using melee weapons underwater since you all have swimming speeds. As for ranged weapons, you can only use the normal range (the shorter of the two). Out of ranged weapons, you have disadvantage on many, but crossbows and nets don't cause disadvantage.}
"Thank you" Azimuth says as he takes the map and takes a good look. "We should be able to find this; is there a specific person we should talk to?".

"No sense just treading water." Guus says impatiently. Having decided on action he's ready to move. "If there's more information to be had lets have it and be on the waves."
Adamastor lowers his voice, a bit embarrassed, and says, "No. We do not have the best information about that town of Salty Marsh. It is civilized; we know that much. I suggest you seek out its leaders."
