It isn't long after you're out of sight of the other traveling party that you come across the road hazard they spoke of. Large gashes wide enough for any of you to lay in cut through the road and surrounding ground. Many of the clumps of dirt thrown up by whatever caused it have grass and weeds still mostly green, hinting that this might have been a more recent event. They're spaced far enough apart that you can maneuver the wagon around them, but it slows your pace down considerably. The road is torn up for about a 100 feet, transitionally seamlessly into a relatively smooth dirt path after.
Ulf would see no signs of movement among the trees, and nothing larger than a hawk in the sky.
Ulf will pause at first sight of the marks to give Ramiro a chance to see them then, "They look fresh my lord."
He waits and then, assuming his lordship is agreeable, suggests someone takes the reins and starts moving cautiously around the gouges, while he tries to identify the source.
He looks dubiously at the marks on the ground, then looks up at the wagon. "Anyone skilled in reading tracks?" he asks.
(( Silthras will help anyone who wants to try to identify the source ))
Ramiro stares at the tracks pensively. He beckons Ulf over and when he approaches his seat, he covers his mouth with his hand and whispers in Ulf's now-much-better-looking ear. "I can try and levitate the wagon for a short period. What do you think?"
"Let's see then..." Thalia leans her head out of the covered portion of the wagon, glancing down at the tracks, or whatever they were, that were posing as an obstacle on the road. Drawing wisdom from her time in the grove(Guidance), she'll try and puzzle out what made them.
If they are far enough away from people that nobody is watching, Ramiro will have everyone get off and cast Levitate on the wagon, and let the horses pull it across.
While the rest of the party unloads the wagon and Ramiro begins his casting of Levitate, Thalia and Ulf take a closer look at the tracks. There are few things large enough that could make gouges like this - particularly in this region. Almost immediately, it comes to Thalia's attention that the tracks are loosely clumped in threes. An image of a gargantuan bird, with a vibrant mix of blue and violet feathers comes to mind. A Roc had been hunting here, likely nesting somewhere in the mountains nearby. It wasn't unheard of for them to carry off entire wagons. The tracks had been made when the giant bird swooped down to grab whatever had been on the road. Given the number of tracks, it had taken a few attempts.
Ramiro's spell finishes, and with the horses out of the way the wagon effortlessly floats over the broken ground. Putting it down safely on smooth ground again, you load back up and get ready to continue on your way.

"Damned big bird, that." Ulf nods to Thalia, "Maybe next time I should become a Roc rather that a swift. His lordship would probably approve."
Now that he knows what he is looking for, Ulf keeps a more careful watch on the sky, hoping not to make any mistake based on scale and distance.
When the wagon is loaded, he looks around one more time and sets the horses in motion.
