The party rests the night without interruption. The library is strangely quiet as you make your way down to the wine cellar. You travel deep into the bowels of the library, where the original structure was built. Merai would know from the history of the library that the first version of the structure was mostly underground to protect from enemy and the winter. As the newer structure was built some 600 years ago near the start of the library it is believed all the original crypts and structures had been sealed off.
You notice the front door has been bashed down to the wine cellar. The smell of vomit greets you. A pair of priests lay slumped against a wine wrack, empty bottles strewn about. A third lay dead, face down and drowned in his own vomit.
The party notices that one of the wine racks look like it has been moved recently. The dust on the ground has been disturbed and it appears the wine rack may move to reveal a hidden passage. The smell a mildew wafts up from a draft somewhere in the shelf.
Merai looks at the group… “Are we ready?” She looks at the shelf to see how it moves, and listens carefully to any sounds in the hidden passage behind, with her owl’s help.
You hear what sounds like faint and slow dragging footsteps some distance away down the hidden passage - maybe about 20 yards from your current location.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The Door is barred on the other side, however, it is old, the wood is mostly rotted. The party can easily (not even worth a roll) break it down. Musty air flows up from the bowels of the dark expanse on the other side. There is a similarly rotten staircase leading down into the darkness You can hear that sound still coming from below.
Everyone must make a DC 15 Dex check when descending the stairs. A failure means the stair gave way beneath you and you weren't able to save yourself. You fall 40 feet onto stone and will take 10 Falling Damage.
