Bathroom. This dark room contains a wooden tub with clawed feet, a small iron stove with a kettle resting atop it, and a barrel under a spigot in the east wall. A cistern on the roof used to collect rainwater, which was borne down a pipe to the spigot; however, the plumbing no longer works.
Storage Room Dusty shelves line the walls of this room. A few of the shelves have folded sheets, blankets, and old bars of soap on them. A cobweb-covered broom sits against one of the shelfs.
Nursemaid’s Suite Dust and cobwebs shroud an elegantly appointed bedroom an adjoining nursery. Double doors set with panes of stained glass pull open to reveal a balcony overlooking the front of the house.
When the door is opened, a figure stands before you, the specter of some woman. She holds a finger to her lips and whispers, “Hush. The baby is sleeping.” She does not react in any way to you as you enter the chamber though.
The bedroom contains a large bed, two end tables, and an empty wardrobe. Mounted on the wall next to the wardrobe is a full-length mirror with an ornate wooden frame carved to look like ivy and berries. As you have gotten use to, you notice eyeballs among the berries.
A small table beside the bed holds a cobwebbed copy of a raunchy romance novel on its surface, hidden clumsily beneath a mildew-covered towel. The novel is titled “Blue-Blooded Lips,” and tells the story of a wealthy duke who enjoys an affair with his female cupbearer.
As you approach the crib in the nursery, the nursemaid’s specter vanishes.
The next time you view the mirror you see the image of the nursemaid looking back at you. The reflection perfectly follows your movements; however, the nursemaid’s eyes still blink on their own.
The nursery contains a crib covered with a hanging black shroud. When you part the shroud, you see a tightly wrapped, baby-sized bundle lying in the crib. If you unwrap the blanket you find nothing inside it.
Secret Door As you study the mirror you notice it has a latch that, when triggered, opens a secret door behind the mirror. Upon doing so you find the same wooden stairway up to the attic you found earlier.
Bernard is thoroughly unsettled as he sees the specter of the nursemaid watching him through the mirror. He clutches his holy amulet tight as he approaches the baby crib.
(Is the specter just an illusion, or is it an actual creature? The reason I'm asking is that Bernard's Spirit Guardians are still active, and if the specter is within range she would be attacked by the angels.)
He slowly steps over and skims over the hidden romance novel. Bernard remembers the letter that he found in the secret room downstairs, and he makes a connection.
"Was Mr. Durst in an affair with the nursemaid...one that resulted in Walter being born?"
As he says those words, he looks at the nursemaid's face in the mirror, seeing if there is a reaction.
With the third floor cleared, Bernard ascends the secret stairway into the attic.

As you speak the nursemaid looks away, and you get the sense she is ashaimed of something,as if she is reacting to your words. (She is only there as a intangible spirit, not something that can be affected by your spell.)
Walking up the wooden stairs, each stair creakes as if some ancient ghost is crying out for aid as you asend. At the top you find a hall. This bare hall is choked with dust and cobwebs.
There is only two doors at the top of the stairs. One has a lock on it, while the other does not.
As he walks up the stairs, Bernard reviews what he has learned. A cult operated out of this house, led by the adult Dursts. Mr. Durst had fostered a bastard son with their nursemaid. Then, he committed suicide, and the nursemaid died somehow too...remembering the note by Mrs. Durst, he assumes she was sacrificed by the cult. Bernard tried to reflect with an dispassioned mind, but the amount of pain and suffering that flowed through the house prevented him.
In the dusty attic, Bernard remembers the iron key he had found downstairs. He tries to fit it in the lock, and if it works, he opens the door.
As you move to the locked door you notice that this lock is on the outside of the door, and is clearly meant to keep people inside of the room from getting out. There does not seem to be any whay a person inside of the chamber could access the lock from inside the room.
The iron key you found in the library does fit the lock, and the metal lock snaps open, allowing the door to be opened.
This room contains a bricked-up window flanked by two dusty, wood-framed beds sized for children. Closer to the door is a toy chest with windmills painted on its sides and a dollhouse that’s a perfect replica of the dreary edifice in which you stand. These furnishings are draped in cobwebs. Lying in the middle of the floor are two small skeletons wearing tattered but familiar clothing. The smaller of the two cradles a stuffed doll that you also recognize.
The toy chest contains an assortment of stuffed animals and toys.
As you look over the dollhouse you notice that all of the house’s secret doors, all of those you have found so far plus one in the attic that leads to a spiral staircase are all clearly detailed.
Rose and Thorn As you look over the dollhouse two ghostly forms appear to either side of you, both looking up at you with curious expressions.
"Are you to save our brother?" The girl asks in a faint voice. "I know my mother carried him down to the basement, and I fear the monster is going to get to have him this time..."
The boy hugs his bear tightly, his curious look changing to one of worry.
Bernard was perplexed by the position of the lock on the outside of the door and wasn't sure what to expect upon entering. But it would be a sight that would haunt him for days to come.
The old priest gasps in horror, his illuminated holy amulet slipping out of his grasp. He collapses against the wall as his eyes gaze at the small skeletons, one of which cradles a stuffed doll in its small bony hand. The lock on the door and the bricked-up window suggested that the two kids were trapped here until their deaths.
Bernard buries his face in his hands. He had agreed to enter the house because he truly wanted to help Rose and Thorn's parents. He had a sliver of hope that maybe, just maybe, by doing something good like this he could take the first step on a long road of redemption for his past crimes. But in this grotesque manor, there would be no hope, and there would be no redemption. There would only be pain, suffering, and death. The house had used the ghosts of Rose and Thorn to lure him to his demise.
As he looks back up again, tears well up in his eyes as Rose and Thorn appear by his side. He gives a weak smile as he picks up his holy amulet. Bernard tries to distance himself from the ghostly apparitions, backing up to the doorway. He says, "Of course I'll save your brother. Walter, isn't it? Could you show me how to get there?"

Bernard’s first instinct, from a long past of exorcism, was to resist the intrusion of Rose and Thorn. Alas, the girl was too strong willed to stop. His second instinct was to cast a Protection from Evil and Good Spell, but something stopped him. She directs you back out of the extra bedroom and to the section of wall with the secret door. as you approach it you can see the telltale outlines of the door and wouldn't have needed Rose's direction to find it, though she is quite detailed in where to look.
Opening the door you find...
A narrow spiral staircase made of creaky wood is contained within a 5-foot-wide shaft of mortared stone that starts in the attic and descends 50 feet to the basement, passing through the lower levels of the house as it makes its descent. Thick cobwebs fill the shaft and reduce visibility in the staircase to 5 feet.
