Itis the year of the cencus. Everyone across Kosmedes is scurrying to their ancestral homelands. The turbulent seas toss ships around like they were pollen being rolled around in the breeze. Everyone knows the risks involved with intercontinental travel but, there is not much anyone can do about it, after all, it is the universal law of the land. A bit of business and a bit of fate had you residing on the human capital of Paolo. The ships take many routes, but you hear that taking a small transit ship to the continent of Ersa, then boarding a very large shipping freight would be the cheapest. You agree to work as hired hands, in exchange for the promise of safe passage. Though the beginning of the journey was smooth, the tides quickly change and the large ship is battered by the wind and waves. You try your hardest to outlast the storm's assault, but you find yourself sinking.
Your world goes dark. Then flashes of light, then darkness. Your hands grasp wildly for any piece of debris you could cling to. Eventually, your body washes ashore. You have no idea where you are but as you slowly regain consciousness, you notice other figures sitting up in the moonlit sand. Though there are a few shapes sitting, there are many, many more remaining still. You quickly realize that you are very lucky to have survived. You see yellow sparks flash in the darkness, as a small campfire emerges. The sight of fire reminds you of the painful chill of the ocean...
Gwythian attempts to stay still and silent as he shivers profusely in the darkness of the shore. He scans the sitting shapes in an attempt to determine who or what these sitting creatures are.

Slowly, Shaede awakens weary and beaten to the sounds of the waves assaulting the shoreline. Looking around, he sees bodies everywhere. He curses this land, as he knows it is foregn to him and completely unrecognizable. Grumbling under his breath, "This census is a complete farse and has nearly gotten me killed. I was doing just fine earning a bit of coin in Paolo."
Though, he sees a bit of opportunity here on this desolate beach. He pulls himself together and looks to start investigating both the living and dead. The living - to help find others who made it out of the shipwreck alive. The dead - well, for more nefarious reasons as there could be some trinkets of value for those who no longer need them. He attempts to keep his movements hidden using the cover of darkness provided as he does his work.

Jarmon immediately pats his body for Patty. When he finds the half-done crossbow still firmly attached to his belt he sighs in relief. He grabs his head and looks towards the others. Shadowy shapes starts moving about and Jarmon is not quite sure what to make of them. "Hey, anyone awake?", he shouts ashe pushes himself up on to his feet.

You are able to control the violent tremors the cold is inflicting on your body. You are chilled to the bone, but hold still enough to pass as a dead body. You see dozens of humanoid figures laying in the sand, only one or two sitting, in the moonlight though, you can't identify them. You assume that they are the other members of the crew. You see one figure stagger to it's feet and yell out...
Shaede
There are bodies all around you, one directly to the left and one directly to the right. Your best guess tells you that there are at least 3, directly above you but there could be more. You slyly slip your hand into their pockets and are able to come away with 20 gold coins, a bronze ring, a pocket journal that has been severely damaged by the sea, and a hand full of pocket lint. You see one figure stand and yell out...
Jarmon
You scan the shore, not really able to see much. You see the small fire starting, and the contorted body of a man inching closer to the flames. You know that basically the whole crew has perished. About 40 able bodied men and women in total.
Shaede Shaede, quite proud of himself, pockets his findings until he can examine the ring and journal more closely. He gathers the rest of his gear and looks at the man yelling on the beach. Clearly, this is someone that may help make sense of the situation.
Shaede approaches Jarmon from the cover of darkness, and speaks softly, "Ho there! Are you injured at all and need some help? I've just regained my senses and can't make out how we got here. I think we lost most of the crew, but I see some others around that campfire ahead. Maybe we should look for some more survivors as we go."
Gwythian pulls himself to his feet and reaches into his backpack for a torch. He mumbles a strange incantation quietly and waves his hand over the end of the torch to make it flicker to life using his Druidcraft cantrip. He calls out to the person who yelled. "I am awake." He turns his attention towards the campfire, desperately wanting some warmth. He starts toward the fire slowly, glancing over the bodies as he moves, barely containing his shivers.

As you approach the small fire, the contorted body raises a hand. He doesn't call out, and his body remains perfectly still aside from the hand. You get the idea that he is badly injured.

Brom
Brom slowly opens his eyes. He hears movement around him. He slowly feels around for his twin axes. Through blurry eyes he sees shapes moving about the beach. He can still taste the salt water in his mouth. He see's a glint of light coming from up the beach. He knows its a fire of some sort.
He slowly sits up and tries to orient himself to his surroundings. He feels the cold creeping into his bones. His clothes are drenched and his pack weighs twice as much.
"I need to head over to that fire before this cold is the death of me."
You stumble across the sand, feeling the weight of the water logged pack on your shoulders. There are so many bodies littering the shore that you trip over a couple on your way to the fire. You arrive, collapsing in a heap near the flames. The warmth spreads through you like a virus. As you settle in and get comfortable you hear a contorted body let out a strained heave of a breath...
"No, sir I am good, except from being bruised like a bad banana.. The campfire might be our best friend after being drenched in seawater like that." He saunters over to the campfire, nudging people with his foot if they are breathing. "Hey.. Get up, you cant lay here. You can and will die." Jarmon doesn´t seem to be too scared about the situation and seems even more comfortable as he reaches the campfire. He rubs his hands together and looks to the others gathered around the rejuvenating flames between them, giving slight nods in acknowledgement to them also being in the same conundrum as him.
"Alright, good to see you made it. I agree, let's head to the fire. I'll follow you." As Shaede departs with Jarmon in the lead, he pays special attention to any dead bodies he has missed. If there are any, he waits until Jarmon is a good bit ahead and then sees if there is anything worth adding to his pack.
As he approaches the group, Shaede notices the badly injured person who is trying to crawl over to the fire. Shaede stops to size the man up, and examines his wounds. Noticing no physical threat, he grabs the man and struggles to pull him to the fire. Falling down and exhausted, he collapses in front of the fire while everyone looks on. "Can someone get this man off of me, and give him some help?"
Gwythian picks up his speed slightly and approaches Shaede and the stranger by the fire. Still holding the torch, he reaches out placing his other hand on the man's shoulder he evokes a cure wounds spell with a few mumbled words.

"Well met everyone, as well as we could meet under such circumstances. I'm Brom Ironshield of Clan Ironshield. We seem to have found ourselves stranded on this beach. Does anyone know where we are? Does anyone know who started this fire?"
Brom looks around at the exhausted and embattled faces half obscured but the firelight and shadows.

Shaede Shaede pulls himself up off the ground and warms himself by the fire. He watches intently as the healed man starts to speak. At this point, he wants to stay quiet and size up the situation. He's not quite sure what to make of Jarmon barking orders yet, but he is starting to like this man.
In his mind, he tally's up his belongings. Cautiously, he says "I have about the same as the dwarf. My name is Shaede, by the way." He thinks to himself as he ponders the journal and ring - maybe I have a little more.
Gwythian routes through his backpack with a scowl but eventually releases a "aha!" of revelation and pulls out a sprig of mistletoe, illuminating it with his torchlight. He pauses for a moment in thought before saying, "20 ration... a water skin... and perhaps another 10 gallons of water can be conjured. I can't believe this stuff is all still dry. Thank The Creator."
