Everyone
You spend a couple of moments collecting and composing yourselves. The fire begins to warm you and dry your soggy gear. It's made mostly of some tall wispy beach grass, so you know that it will not last for long, but it is at least momentary relief. Just as you begin to get comfortable you are overwhelmed with a sense fear. You scan the horizon, your eyes dart around the bodies, you look to the ocean. Thinking that perhaps the stress of the situation has caught up with you, and that you are out of any immediate danger you begin your conversations again. Brom inches closer to the flames and just as he shifts his weight to get comfortable a blur of a creature tackles him to the ground. The surprise and shock of the situation send you all into a panic, you start to look around wildly just in time to see two other figures darting toward you. They are small, the size of a large turkey, but you can see glistening teethe in and flashing eyes coming straight at you.
Surprise round on Brom: Attack: 12 Damage: 4 to hit with a bite and Attack: 15 Damage: 5 to slash with it's claws
Neither of those hit, but you are pinned, you can make a STR check, or DEX check, as a standard action to break the pin on your next turn.
Using the side initiative system that I showed in the Campaign page I will use Jarmon and Shaede's +3 against my monster's
Players: 12
NPCs: 15
Since you guys won the Initiative you all get to act before the monsters act! Have fun!
Shaede is shocked at this surprise attack from these creatures. Nevertheless, he quickly and calmly stills his nerves calculating his next move. He moves to the edge of the firelight, readies his bow and takes aim at one of the two other creatures incoming to the makeshift camp.
[OOC Im guessing that these creatures can see in the dark, so my stealth isn't worth a whole lot nor a sneak attack possible. and woohoo! lets get started]
Attack: 13 for 4 Damage on Turkey #2
[OOC well I see how the damage dice are gonna go for me today]
Gwythian stretches his hand in front of him and takes aim at the creature pinning Brom. He mumbles an incantation and a cold frost emanates from his palm. The creature must make a DC13 con save or take 5 cold damage. I'm using frostbite

Your arrow strikes true, though you only barely hit it. The creature actually turns on its heels to face you now that you have drawn it's attention.
Gwyth
5 to save.
The creature winces in pain as you see ice forming on it's feathers. It continues it's charge though, now darting toward you.
Jarmon
You take aim and strike the creature with a satisfying thud, and watch it fall to the sand, only to wobble back to it's feet. You know that you've pretty much sealed this beasts fate. In the process you allowed Brom to wiggle and gain some space. He is still pinned, but you think he could shove this thing off of him with ease.
Brom: roll with advantage to break free. Also, The DC is now -5. Good thinking!
Gwythian snarls, pulls a wooden shield from his back and draws his scimitar, he readies the blade and holds his position ready to swipe out if any of these creatures comes within range of melee.
Taking Ready Action.

With two hands you shove the creature away from yourself. You gain enough room to roll away to the side and ready yourself for battle.
Next round you can act normally.
You were perfect on the roll. The DC is just a number that the Dungeon Master assigns to challenges. I had that set at a DC 12, meaning to pass you would have to roll 12 or better. Jarmons shot was such a good hit that on top of doing damage I thought it seemed appropriate to make that check a little easier, since getting shot would probably make any creature loosen its grip.
No worries, you are doing great!
NPCs
The creatures move closer to each other, you can see them form a line, then spread out slowly. They occasionally lunge and lurch at you letting out deafening hisses as they do. Jarmon you recognize this behavior. You have seen it before, in wolves. You instantly realize that these creatures have a pack mentality, and that now that they are together you are in much more serious danger.
The one Jarmon turns its attention from Brom to Jarmon and lunges.
Attack: 16 Damage: 6 on a bite attack, Attack: 22 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. for a claw slash
The other two split up and simultaniously attack Gwyth and Shaede.
Gwyth: Attack: 13 Damage: 4 for bite attack, Attack: 17 Damage: 4 for a claw slash.
Shaede: Attack: 22 Damage: 3 for bite attack, Attack: 14 Damage: 6 for claw slash.
Something that can be fun, would be for you guys to add your own "flavor text" to the attacks. So like if two of those attacks hit, maybe you give us the sort of play-by-play of what happens to your character in that moment before you take your action. If you guys don't want to try that I can continue to give it, but I thought it might be a cool collaborative experiment. Also, it's your turn again, so go ahead in any order you'd like!

Jarmon wasn´t ready for an attack like that, it seems like the fact that he just woke up after being tossed around in the waves for a couple of hours has had an effect on his reflexes. The beast gets in a bite across Jarmons left hand, the teeth dont cut deep, but its enough to make him drop the bow. In a swift motion he draws his shortsword from the hilt, but before he manages to get a stab at the "turkey" it gets in another attack at him, this one with its talons on his calf. He pushes through the throbbing pain in his leg and goes in for a stab.
