Played D&D many years ago; Looking to get back into it as I am able. Just created a L1 Cleric named Lord Randor. Looking to join a new group/adventure. Thanks
Quick question... what is the mood/flavor you expect from this game, on a continuum from say, Joe Abercrombie's First Law at one end, through Glen Cook's Black Company in the middle, to like, Dumas' Three Musketeers at the other end. Abercrombie is super grimdark, Cook is grim but there's a lot of sarcastic overlay, and the Musketeers do some skullduggery (and man the main story is dark) but there's a more swashbuckling feel to it.
Thanks!
Probably somewhere between Dumas and Cook! Fun, but with elements of the dark and fallen world the characters live in. But not "I'm going to either slit my wrists or kill everything around me" dark, either!
Race / Class: Warforged / Wizard (Evocation, most probably)
Dragonmark? Nope
Backstory: The war ended for Glint as a tremendous sound that ripped the world around them. A murmuring sound of distant combat or deep-voiced communication. Glint regains function at a scene of great destruction and horrific loss of life. They believe severe damage lead to slow progess leaving the area and constant sensation misreadings; distant cries, tolings flames and roars of battle that did not exist.
It was a raining night when they accepted the offer to the academy. Base functions had returned, and Glint took the idea of trying to remain indistinct on the streets, but it seems that was unsuccesful. Emotions had been mostly dull ripples, but the opportunity to have purpose caused great stirs, excitement even.
This feeling surged with the returning capability to cast spells, and with excellent skill. People around them state it is due to being a distinct model, not knowing the struggling path of practice; all false, but they paid these hush words no mind. Their returning functions allowed to focus capturing images, faces, from these incomplete recollections through sketches and recordings. Who were they? Are they even alive after the war? It would be a great opportunity to find out.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Lilmaia Quickfingers
Race: Tiefling
Class Artificer (Going for armorer and mostly using infiltrator armor, may multiclass into rogue)
Dragonmark: None
Backstory: Lilmaia grew up for the first few years of her life as the daughter of a shoemaker. Her dad raised her as a single father and doted on his little girl. Her father's shoe shop was a popular location due to the little enhancements he put in each and every shoe. They felt lighter, were more comfortable, and more beautiful. Dad used what little he knew of magic and artificing to improve his shoes and taught it to his little girl. However, one day a nearby experiment gone wrong started a fire. Lilmaia woke up to smoke and flames as her dad grabbed her and began to carry her out of their burning shop. Before he could get to the door, the building collapsed. By the time they were unburied, her father had died. The queen's men snuck her away soon after. In her training among the bastards, Maia's rudimentary artificing skills were improved. But she also discovered a knack for sneaking. After losing her father, she loved to sneak away from her guards and simply sit and tinker. During her final year, she began working on a lightning based device. She made a bet with one of her trainers that one day it would be known around the world. Currently it.... can slightly shock someone. But Lilmaia knows she will turn it into a famous device.

This sounds really cool, I recently discovered Ebrron and have been wanting to learn more about it
**Please note: I did not alter my ability score rolls, after they were set and I selected one I used the "strike out" feature to put a line through the other two, then I got the big red banner. I can also use standard array or point buy if this is a concern.

PC Name: Garren Kreely Race: Human (Variant) -> Variant Features = Language: Dwarvish, Skills: Insight, Feat: Heavy Armor Mastery Class: Fighter Background: Queen's Bastards -> Background Features = Skills: Deception, Athletics Alignment: LN Dragonmark: None Character Sheet here.
Backstory: Garren was the youngest of three children who traveled with their mother and father, who were herbal merchants. The were raised out of the back of a large merchant's wagon, touring the lands from city to city. When he was three, the outbreak of a minor plague coincided with his family's arrival in a market town. The townsfolk quickly blamed the merchants for the outbreak, and violence ensued. Garren was spared, but the townsfolk assumed he was afflicted with the disease himself, and so no one wanted him. An agent of the Queen who lived in the town, and who knew the true origin of the outbreak was foreign agents, secured the child. During his time at the academy, Garren has become known for his strict adherence to rules, unnerving calm under pressure, and loyalty to those he calls friends. That said, Garren has a deeper anger that he tries very hard to keep in check. On several occasions during melee sparring sessions with other students, Garren has gone too far and injured his opponents.
Debt: (rolled #9) -> You have an opportunity to join an influential secret society. But you’ve got only one month to raise the membership dues. --> I am unfamiliar with the game-world societies, please let me know who they are and how much.
Regret: (rolled #10) -> You volunteered for mystical experiments. These may be responsible for your class abilities, but you might experience side effects. --> As famous last words, I declare that the GM should decide what - if any - effects this has had on my character!
Trinket: (#50) A whistle made from gold-colored wood.
Dreams & Aspirations: Garren adheres so closely to the rules because he genuinely has no idea who he should be. By meeting the expectations of his teachers and handler, he gains a sense of purpose. He has felt the pull of fate that brought him to the academy, which has coincided with a sense of terrible loneliness, knowing he once had a family he can no longer remember. He cares about the responsibilities he has been given, of course, but what he truly wants is to be his own person - to decide his own fate. He does not know how to reconcile his sense of duty, with is inner yearning for independence. Perhaps he is just like any other 16 year old? **NOTE TO GM: What this means is that Garren is a bit boring, stiff, square. Over time, he will (hopefully) find cause to lighten up, and find comfort and personal agency in his path as a Queen's Agent.
Thanks for your interest and all of the great entries - the recruitment is closed! I'll send PMs out later this evening to the six folks whose characters I select.

Thanks for the reminder!
Modified one set of rolls with those settings (hence the big banner about potentially manipulated rolls).
If I get accepted I'll handle them however the GM prefers.

Goliath's come from a different set of rules (Elemental Evil Player's Companion), so not an accepted race for this game. Sorry!
