Tests and Trials Game Thread

Cladmir's hammer evaporates the ghost over Mikram with nearly no slowing before he spins and charges back to assist with Gethren's shadowy accomplice.

He definitely hits something, and is confident it was maybe an important something.

He only has a moment to feel proud of his support before a wave of wrongness and fear washes over him and he feels like he is about to vomit.

A similar wave hits Kroshav but Sword fights against the terror, replacing it with indignation. She cries out in his mind,

<No! No! We aren't done! Go Kroshav, cut them all down!>

The golem wheels around and heads to strike Gethren.

Kroshav's laughter stops in this throat as he takes a pair of somewhat more hesitant swings at Gethren.

((Correction, only 2 Necrotic, halved to 5, then halved again from resistance.))

(( Welp -- Cladmir vomited a mixture of bile and blood all over himself and gotten even paler than before, but at the same time he is also delirious enough that the wave of fear rolled off him like water of a duck. ))

Feeling waves of more pain Cladmir doesn't know what is happening anymore.  In the back of his mind he knew that up until recently he would have fled this battle long ago at the first sign of trouble, yet here he stood with another voice urging him to fight on -- although he's no longer sure why he was fighting.  All he knew was that he needed to keep on swinging.  And so he swung.

Attack: 8 Damage: 7. Acid 3

The golem reaches Gethren and punches a stony fist into the mans gut with a dry crack. Gethren glances down at the little statue before returning his attention to the larger opponents just in time to see as Sword descending towards his head. Once again his shadowy companion intercedes for the blow and absorbs it but recedes to soon as Kroshav drives a trembling sword into Gethren's shoulder.

Con save: 7

The shadowy creature's movements to protect Gethren throw off Cladmir's aim as both his strikes pass through where the thing had just been.

Kroshav feels as Sword's exuberance retakes its place of full focus in his mind as any brief period of fear is quickly forgotten.

Gethren sighs theatrically,

"Well that is enough of that."

He raises his hand and sends two blasts of force into Kroshav's chest.

Attack: 22 Damage: 1

Attack: 7 Damage: 5

The shadowy thing behind him releases another wave of vile sickness. ((Con save of DC 14 or 10 necrotic damage, half on save))

The golem takes another swing at Gethren's exposed stomach area.

Attack: 24 Damage: 7

The golem manages to land a significant enough blow Gethren doubles over in surprise. Perhaps ignoring the golem wasn't the wisest choice.

Cladmir can hear the sounds of a fight down the stairs, Kroshav can also hear it but doesn't care.

Cladmir falls to his knees in the snow, the moving darkness before him the last thing he sees before a fuller, less hateful darkness takes him.

((Come on Kroshav!))

Kroshav grits his teeth, angry giggles bubbling forth as he weathers the foul energy. (CON: 7)

He whips Sword back around, swinging her down in an overhand blow before drawing her back and thrusting at Gethren.

Attack: 13 Damage: 22
Attack: 12 Damage: 18

((Takes 4 necrotic on the failed save, second strike with the 27 to hit was 9 slashing and 9 necrotic.))

Gethren's wrapped visage looks to note Cladmir's fall as Kroshav attempts to skewer him, only to again be blocked by the shadow thing, first by misjudging where the man is standing and then by direct intervention.

Looking back up Gethren asks,

"To the last man is it? Truly honorable of you, but I just need Lurn. You can keep the rest of these."

He doesn't seem to quite understand he is getting through to Kroshav. He does turn to look over his shoulder, despite the roiling mass of shadow, back down the stairs.

"Just tell me Kroshav, where is he?"

The man again extends two hands towards Kroshav to fire of a pair of blasts.

Attack: 12 Damage: 3

Attack: 10 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

The shadow creature also surges forward and wraps around Kroshav attempting to crush him.

Attack: 20 Damage: 6

The golem aims for a knee this time.

Attack: 6 Damage: 4

Both blasts of energy miss the erratically moving dragonborn and the shadowy creature can't manage to catch him either.

The golem, on the other hand, lands its blow with another bone crunching crack that causes Gethren to stumble and curse but not fall.

"YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM!", Kroshav bellows, ducking their attacks and slashing again at Gethren.

((It's displaying nonsense when I mouse over, if you need to know how much is necrotic, I can start adding that as a separate roll after.))

Kroshav takes his chance to strike at the stumbling man, screaming while doing so. As usual, the shadow thing blocks the first blow but it isn't able to block the second which slices open the cloth and leather wrapping on Gethren's torso along with a fair bit of what is beneath. If Kroshav were more aware he'd probably have been mildly surprised to find that under the wrappings there was only bones and dust. He is aware enough to notice a chunk of bones tumble out of Gethen to the ground.

At this, and the decreasing sounds of fighting behind him, Gethren comes to a decision, and very reasonably says,

"Fine, fine. I will have to catch up with Lurn later little paladin."

As the shadow creature leaps forward to wrap around Kroshav, the dragonborn watches as the skeletal Gethren disappears.
