Finn scans the people on the street to try to spot any Halfling female. (Investigation 15 if wanted) If she spots such she’ll make her way up to them and offer them five gold to run as fast as they can down the street, indicating the end of the street towards the searchers. “Admittedly I’m trying to run a little scam on a friend. Nothing illegal, mind ya, but it’ll win me three times what I’m paying you and be a good laugh. What say you?” (Persuasion 21 for that…)
If no Halfling is in sight she instead just encourages everyone to pick up the pace to try to lose them, without trying to look like we’re trying to lose them…

Finn does spot a halfling that bears a somewhat similar appearance, if a person squinted their eyes. The halfling takes the coins and dashes off happy to make some easy coin. The searchers quickly gives chase. You lose sight of them as they round a corner.
After a bit of traveling the party finally makes it to the abandoned Inn the Jaded Sheep. The sign is well worn and you can barely make out the words. The windows are caked with enough grime to block most of the light. The front door squeaks loudly as you pull it open. Inside you see broken table and chairs. Some are still intact though. The floor is covered in layers of dust and cobwebs. There are stairs that head to the second floor and a half closed door that looks like it looks into a run down kitchen.
Thordahr searches as thoroughly inside as possible checking each room and closet, and makes sure to pull closed any drapes, or pushes furniture up against windows without coverings and says "Ok, I think we gave them the slip. Lets see if we give our guest a chance to recuperate and maybe get to the bottom of these shenanigans."
"I never promised The Prancing Pony or anything, but this should do us well enough to get a rest in and perhaps then move on with less heat upon us," Finn explains.

After he finishes his examination he relays his finding, such as they are, then sighs and adds, "Anyone know how to wake her? Not sure I fancy staying here longer than necessary."
Norros is looking through the papers in the satchel and laying them out as he finishes each for the others to look at. "I haven't the foggiest about poisons and drugs. She looks like she needs a doctor."
Finn has no proficiency with medicine (or poisons) but is always curious about stolen papers. She too will investigate those at length to see what they may reveal. Investigation 11 plus 6 if needed.
“We should be fine here for the night,” Finn says to one and all reassuringly. “Assuming we weren’t followed, the only others who’d come here are people looking for the same safe hidden rest we are. They place has long been looted of anything valuable and the locals don’t come poking around, as the heavy layer of dust can attest to…”
“Not that we shouldn’t keep a watch while we sleep. No reason to be reckless. Plus want to make sure she doesn’t awaken and escape.”

Norros and Finn with knack realize these are Ellis's archaeology notes. They are quite disorganized and takes some time to make sense of them. It seems she found something during a exploratory dig in one of the abandoned mine shafts. Among the notes are charcoal rubbings of an intricate mural. It depicts people kneeling in worship of a king or queen with a radiant crown.
Unfortunately you do not find any information telling you which abandoned mine shaft she was exploring.

With no response from his companions, and worried about the angry blue lines on the unconscious halfling's arm, Varlan crouches down beside her. He utters a few words in an ancient tongue while he seems to rapidly measure the lines of infection with one of his tools. This does not look good.
When he is done, he turns back to the others, "You know, I don't think blue is a natural colour for a healthy halfling. Just saying."
The spells brings more color to her cheeks and she does look better, but the blue lines are still there. Her eyes flutter open and she has a confused expression as she looks around "Where am I and who are you"
Varlan lifts his goggles to his forehead tries to smile reassuringly, "We were sent to rescue you. I...we...ah...my name is Varlan" his eyes settle on the blue discolouration of her arm, then he glances around the room, not exactly sure what to say. Poison?
He turns to Norros. "It might be better if you explain."
Probably should go back to killing rats in basements.
(I’m assuming Varlan is with Norros, Thordahr or myself so once the report gets to Finn she alerts the others.)
“Our decoy didn’t work! Unless someone has a better idea, I could try to engage them, draw them to me while the rest of you make a break for it…”

Varlan can hail a cab as there some in the streets.
"Let's just get out of here. They are looking for a halfling scholar."

Thordaher only finds beds in disrepair, broom, and a kitchen with some dented pots.

Everyone can have a long rest and Ellis Moir will wake after the rest.
(( @DM: So she's asleep? Here was I hoping it was some kind of truth serum based on " "I am sure this little concoction will loosen your tongue". ")
It was not truth serum. If you want to know more than you can roll a medicine check examining Ellis
Varlan examines her eyes, skin and breathing, "What in gods name did they give her?" he asks. "Anyone recognize it?"
Medicine: 13
After he finishes his examination he relays his finding, such as they are, then sighs and adds, "Anyone know how to wake her? Not sure I fancy staying here longer than necessary."
Varlan noticed blue veins lacing her body and she seem more lethargic than before.
(A high medicine check will allow someone to wake her briefly. DC 15 There is also the satchel of papers Norros has that can be examined)
Norros is looking through the papers in the satchel and laying them out as he finishes each for the others to look at. "I haven't the foggiest about poisons and drugs. She looks like she needs a doctor."
