"Yes, you've found me out. I'm the rat catcher, sent by the city to kill everything in this house now that Abernath is gone. I have powerful spells and sharp knives, and I'm going to kill you all painfully. I'll spare anyone who can give me useful information, but the longer you wait, the more painful your demise will be."
[Intimidation? Lol] 24
Bjorn looks around at the party and shrugs hopelessly, as if to say, "what has my life become?"
You are unsure of your effect on the rats as they have ceased speaking/ squeaking. Most likely they are now thoroughly convinced your here to murder them
"Be careful with those." Sorsha says, motioning to the dangerous crates before looking around the floor of the basement for anything out of the ordinary. Investigation: 5
Vars scanna the kitchen one more time, his eyes finally stopping on the painting. Wondering if perhaps something was hidden behind or within the frame, he moves to cautiously remove the painting from the wall.

Vars moves over to the painting. The skill of the painting is unmatched, it feels like he is right there, on the shore next to the tower. He can feel the wet spray of the ocean, feel the wind battering his flesh. As he reaches to move the frame to look behind it, he notices the eyes of the tower start to glow red.

"Blasted wizards." Bjorn stomps up the stairs and looks around, not seeing Vars anywhere. "If you rats did this, or if you know who did, you'd better start talking now, or I'm going to tear these walls down until I find you!"
He considers whether he could actually follow through on this threat and decides that the others would probably stop him. Instead, he starts knocking heavily on the walls of the kitchen, listening for hollow spaces. He'll start by the stairs and go clockwise.
"Be my guest. Or, Abernath's guest, I suppose. It's his house, after all." Bjorn holds an axe in either hand, nervous that there's a threat in the building, and watches Eberk's back while he does his thing.

"His tracks just disappear here" Sparhawk points at the shoe prints in the dust. "Maybe a secret door or a trap of some sort?" Sparkhawk cautiously investigates the wall near the footprints for clues. (Investigation): 8
(Would divine sense detect magic or only magical creatures, etc.?)

Divine sense mostly just detects good and evil creatures.
Your investigation near the wall detects only the footprints and the slightly askew painting

Sparhawk also continues to investigate. 7
You have to say what exactly your investigating, no blanket statements allowed. The details of investigation matter

"Hey, are you coming or what?" Sorsha shouts from the basement.
Vars feels a tingling sensation and vanishes from the kitchen.
(Oh no, hopefully someone saw that... Looks like Vars is going to need a rescue now lol.)
Vars lets out a stifled yell that is cut off when he vanishes.
Sparhawk hears vars and runs over. Investigate missing vars? Painting? Investigation 18
( Sparhawk didn’t go down stairs? What do you do to investigate?)
If Sparhawk investigates around the painting he will see a set of footprints in the dust on the ground in front of it.
"Hey, what are you doing up there?" Sorsha shouts up from the basement.
“Vars disappeared. I see his footprints near the wall. Vars!!!?”
Sorsha hurries up the stairs again. "What do you mean disappeared? Where did you last see him?" She asks Sparhawk as she gets up into the kitchen.
"Blasted wizards." Bjorn stomps up the stairs and looks around, not seeing Vars anywhere. "If you rats did this, or if you know who did, you'd better start talking now, or I'm going to tear these walls down until I find you!"

[Edit: Investigation] 18
Eberk walks into the kitchen. "New rule for wizard houses. Don't touch anything until I figure out if it's magic."

Eberk sits on the floor and begins muttering a prayer to himself. Casting Detect Magic.
