How do you feel about races from other setting materials?
I have a concept I've been wanting to play for a protection focused Mage (mostly bodyguard, but would work well as a cop too). To make work the way I am envisioning I need the Mark of Warding Dwarf race (which is Eberron specific).I can see a couple of ways to make it setting agnostic, but that would be a gm discretion thing...so want to get your thoughts before I make the build.

Short term goal: Stop the disappearances. Protect the town.
Long term goal: He’d like to make his mark in town leadership, maybe lead the city watch. Something that would make his father proud.
Back story: Krastus’s parents brought him to Drynna when he was a small child. It was a place of peace, where they could forget the troubles of their homeland and start anew. He had a safe childhood in a loving home. He was a responsible child as well, looking out for those who, like him, were outsiders. Maybe he had a bit of a temper, but all who knew him felt his good heart. His father, Regulus, got a job in the City Watch and, although the pay wasn’t much, he was proud of the chance to protect his newfound refuge. He would regale Krastus and his mother, Priscilla, with stories of the funny or interesting interactions he had each day.
About three years ago, his father was killed, defending the town from a bandit raid. Regulus died a hero, and Krastus joined the watch to follow in his footsteps. He did well in the training, learning to channel the rage he felt at his father’s death into his battle training. He became great friends with many other members of the watch. He might have stayed in the watch forever, if not for two things. Lately, when in his raging state, strange things have begun to happen. He wonders if it is safe for his friends to be around him. Then came the disappearances. If it was bandits or even a brawl in a tavern, the watch knew what to do, but this seemed to overwhelm their ability to protect the town. Krastus had his mother to think of; what if she disappeared? No, he had to do more. Joining the Sun Wardens seemed the best way to continue in the path his father laid out for him.
Voice: Scottish, like Rose Leslie and Karen Gillan. Prefers to listen, but is eager to discuss books.
Hook: Drynna orphan -> raised out of squallor -> now seeks to help the folks who first helped her.
Backstory: Bonivere was a gutter-rat destined for a grim fate until she met the kind book-merchant who gave her work. In exchange for deliveries, cleaning, crowd calls, and - eventually - security, the book-merchant taught Bonivere how to read and write. She still had ties with the other orphans of Drynna. She would be teased for being a merchant's pet, but they loved to hear her tell stories from the books she read. With folk disappearing, Bonivere feels called to the Sun Wardens to do what she can for her troubled home town.
GOALS
Short Term: To answer the Sun Warden's call. To help put an end to the disappearances. It's what a hero would do. She is as excited as she is scared about what lurks in the shadows.
Long Term: To live up to her idea of heroism. I imagine she is full of optimism (fueled in no small part by fiction stories), and will have to grapple with the harsh reality of her own limitations, failure, and yet the burning conviction that heroes never give up.

hook: Low caste cousin of the family sent to town to make inroads with townleadership
Backstory: Hulnus is a 2nd cousin of the main line of the Kundarak family. Everyone was shocked when he manifested the mark, a small clef sitting across his right eye, but there none the less. No one in his line had manifested the mark in nearly 200 years before him. And so it meant a great elevation of station and immediate tutorship with the arcane masters of the House. Now, his tutelage and apprenticeship done, he has been given his first mission as a Journeyman...Travel to Drynna and give service to the community there. Represent the name Kundarak well and show the residents the value and trust they can place in the Mark.
short term goal: help the sun wardens discover what is causing disappearances and provide protection to the community
long term goal: create opportunities for the House within Drynna. Gain prestige within the House by creating a protection network within the city with him at the head.
