"Yes Ma'am" Rohar says with humility. 'She just doesn't know that for a slave, just the opportunity to walk around the city with a sword is a type of freedom. She couldn't know.' After Yurime talks and stands, Rohar agrees. "I... we will not let you down."
Rohar grabs the shield she was promised and quickly walks out of the palace with the others.
Gnash hangs back a moment to talk with the Pharaoh.
For DM and Three:
Gnash listens intently to the words spoken to him and reflexively puffs out his chest and stands even straighter at the high praise. “You do me a great honor your highness! I feel relieved that you have planned for such contingencies and foolish that I momentarily expected any less.”
“The nature of the bandaged man worries me but his words ring true. Unfortunately, I am no stranger to the political machinations of those in the court, the Tiefling’s games do not concern me. As for the slaves, I imagine they were not brought into this for their diplomatic abilities. You’ll remember long ago I too once resisted the bonds of service. It is good and wise you have given them this opportunity. Perhaps the Gods have greater plans for them than toiling away doing menial work. I agree Lady Hanasaki is a curious one. She fidgets nervously like prey but I sense no ill intentions from her. Regardless I will have my eye on all of them”
Gnash with surprising delicateness extends one massive scaled hand towards the Pharaoh and accepts the scarab. “My loyalty to you and the land is unending and unerring! However, I regret to inform her highness that the high priest never deigned to educate me in such pristine languages.”(Gnash can speak with animals via spell however I'm unsure if he knows whether that works on a magic beetle? If so he would tell her that solution.)
At Rashaken's question, both tabaxi start to argue all at once, and Kheprina has to hold up her hand to silence them.
"Tali, Omar, be silent. Now, as for the question, I'll firstly thank you for requesting guidance in this matter. You must be a member of one of the more intelligent races," She says, turning to the druid. "As much as the river is a very, very high priority, I would suggest looking into the matter of the sphinxes first. Their aggression is starting to become a significant problem and it can't be allowed to continue. Just yesterday a priest visiting the lonely pyramid was attacked by those vicious creatures. I need you to help me make Aldhahab safe again."
'As her majesty commands.' Against my better judgment I dipped my head in a bow. 'We shall take our leave now.'
My bones creaked and ached as I once more rose to my full posture. I turned on my heels to make for the exit but hesitated. The queen had asked for a private audience with the crocodile man. I must admit it gave me cause for concern: what was it she needed to tell him in private? Moreover, how much faith had she in him to be willing to enter into a vulnerable position? The pharaoh alone with such a being. Never smile at a crocodile was something anyone living near the rivers learned as a child so it vexed me. Still it was not my place to decide what her majesty wanted to do with whom so I moved one foot in front of the other to get the feeling back in them.
A more interesting venue of amusement presented itself with the white haired woman in the unusual dress. It seemed I was not the only one unaccustomed to the etiquette of royal courts.
Steadily rising up from her aching feet (Agh! My legs! I coud literally feel them cracking!), Yurime gives one last courtesy towards the queen, choosing her words REALLY wisely: "I won't let you down, your highness. That's a promise". She then walks out slowly, muttering something inaudible in Japanese and debating in her head on whether to cast Calm Emotions or not...
'It gets better the more you move your feet.' I offered her as a piece of advice and a way to begin the conversation. 'Pardon my indulgence but your manner of clothes and the tongue you speak: they are unfamiliar to my ears.'Though difficult to see underneath the bandages, I realised I was missing a significant chuck of my actual ears. 'If I may ask: where are you from, miss... Hanasaki, was it?'
'It gets better the more you move your feet.' I offered her as a piece of advice and a way to begin the conversation. '
Upon exiting the temple, Yurime's concealed ears twitched again when she hears Rashaken address her and spins around. Her long, silky white hair blowing against the light breeze."I totally agree with you" she replies. All of a sudden, her low-pitched cautious tone shifts to a medium-high pitched, almost free-spirited one as she stretches her arms as well. "Having to kneel for nearly two hours is already exhausting enough, especially when the mood is ruined by the other's approach to the queen and the unbearable heat... Ugh!"
'Pardon my indulgence but your manner of clothes and the tongue you speak: they are unfamiliar to my ears.' .'Though difficult to see underneath the bandages, I realised I was missing a significant chuck of my actual ears.
She pauses. And looks at the Druid again before gasping. It's him. The limping one whom she desperately wanted to assist in the temple. She goes over to support Rashaken without even thinking twice, despite the fact that he's clearly a living corpse. Being a Kumiho, Yurime is used to being around decomposing corpses due to her feral rampages so she wasn't afraid to approach the Druid. "Aw. You poor thing" she sympathises as she helps him from falling into the sand. "I really wanted to help you and I couldn't bear the fact you had to sit uneasily amongst the temple walls whilst the queen looked at you in pure horror." She glances at her kimono, then strokes the crown that was concealing her fox ears to make sure it was still there. "Yeah, I'm not from this country, as you can tell by my petty accent and outfit. I only came here to seek refuge and make for something horrible I did back in my own world. If I didn't find that portal back in my own world, I wouldn't have ended up here. And maybe the people I had saved wouldn't be either. So I'm glad someone can somewhat understand my concerns."
'If I may ask: where are you from, miss... Hanasaki, was it?'
Her crimson eyes makes eye contact with his near-soulless eyes for the first time and smiles. "Yes I'm Miss Yurime Hanasaki. But you can call me Yurime or Yuri. I don't really mind."
"Answering your question, I came from another country in my own world called Japan and South Korea and I was born in the latter before migrating to the former. They are two, separate countries that you won't know of, just like how I don't know this country well." She noticeably became more eager to know about the Druid in the process. "What about you mister? Where did you come from? And what's your name? If we're going to be working together to save this country we need to open up each other more!"
Inside her head though: So he knows that I'm not from this country, but I don't really know much of him either. People who came for treatment know my true Nine-tailed appearance but I've never seen him come to my temple even once. Maybe I'll just keep this disguise on for a little longer, just in case.
OOC: I know bards are supposed to be chatty and expressive but do you consider this an information overload?
Khaddim lowered his face as a sign of respect. He realised that he was showing his hatred towards nobles far more than it used to, being in the same place with the one responsible for the slavery of his people and many other races was harder for him than anything he'd face before. So he needed to show more selfcontrol.
(The mood is pretty tense. The queen is stressed and you can feel it in her social interactions)
With one last sigh, her eyes sweeping over all of you once again, she nods to the three. "Yes, you are all dismissed."
"We won't let you down your highness" said while keeping his head down before geting up and started to walk with everyone else.
He then got closer to Rashaken and Yurime "Pardon me for interrupting your conversation, but I couldn't help to hear that miss Hanasaki isn't from around here. I can help as a guide to the desert to find the sphinxes" said nicely with a smile and a more submissive posture done by instinct.

"Oh uh... uh... uh of course," she replies to Khaddim. She was startled by his voice but instantly regains her posture five seconds in. "Me and this poor guy here would love some guidance to help find the sphinxes, especially since we are not from this place. We would really appreciate your help with this, sir. Thank you."
Apparently Yurime is afraid to interact with the slaves because they remind her of someone in Japan that nearly killed her and caused her to destroy an entire town via her own rampage.
On her way out, a guard hands Rohar a circular shield, quite clearly a hand me down by the well worn handle and scratches across the surface. The front of the shield is decorated with the eye of Horus, the symbol of Kheprina's father and the previous pharaoh.

OOC: Your character sheet says you can speak celestial? Ah well that's fine.
Kheprina nods, and motions for Tali Almustadei. "Vizier, would you kindly remove the failsafe enchantment?"
With a quick motion of her hands and a muttered incantation, a sucking sound is heard as threads of runes from the beetle fly back into Tali's diamond.
"There, now it understands common," Kheprina says with a smile. "I am so glad you understand your mission so clearly. Godspeed, Gnash, and may the divine guide you."

And maybe the people I had saved wouldn't be either. So I'm glad someone can somewhat understand my concerns."
I was, I must admit, a bit flabbergasted by what miss Hanasaki told me. Portals? Other worlds? To me she certainly was an unusual woman in the way foreigners might come across but this went beyond any manmade borders. Or perhaps world was a slight mistranslation? It was known that especially gifted magic users hold the power to transport themselves from one place to another so it could be that is what she meant. From what she said it sounded like she endured hardship back where she originally came from. Was she fleeing from something? Was she forced to leave it all behind? Whatever the case, the white-haired lass proved to be the most intriguing member of our little group so far.

OOC: I know bards are supposed to be chatty and expressive but do you consider this an information overload?
'Quite a chatty one, aren't you?' I smiled at Yurime through my bandages. It was not my experience that people pour their heart out to a stranger but perhaps this was customary in her homecountry. She was right about me not knowing her previous locations. I did not consider myself a worldly person so the names Japan and South Korea meant very little to me and I doubted that I could point them out on a map if given the opportunity. 'Oh, I don't mind. Usually I'm just alone with my thoughts so I appreciate a pleasant voice filling the void. Charmed to make your acquaintance, miss Yurime.'
She next inquired about my person. I supposed it was only fair to reciprocate the question considering what she had told me, if only out of politeness. 'My name is Rashaken. Emphasis on the SHA part, lest people believe I'm shook.'The corner of my mouth curled up in a half-smile as I chuckled at my own wordplay. 'I'm afraid my own past is quite dull compared to what you have experienced. I merely come from out of the desert sands.'I grabbed a loosened strip of cloth around my arm, pulled it taut and reapplied it. 'Perhaps I should name myself that: Rashaken of the sands. Has a nice ring to it.'
Thank you."
The Half-Orc, Khaddim was his name if I recalled, joined in on our conversation. He presented himself as a local guide and offered his aid as such to traverse the desert and confront the sphinxes. I noticed Yurime became slightly uncomfortable at his presence so I interposed myself between the two.
'That would be most appreciated.' I told Khaddim. 'Have you any experience with sphinxes?' I asked because the prospect of confronting one worried me. They tended to be solitary creatures, quite content to remain in their lairs to contemplate the mysteries of life. Or to guard fabulous treasures if one were to believe the tales. That they became restless, even agressive against those who were not a threat, presented a shift in the delicate balance of the natural order of things and not one for the better.

Khaddim looked down in shame. "Sadly no, I don't have experience with them. As a slave of a noble family I mostly did as a carrier and butler. But with everyone here, I'm sure that we can deal with them." said with an optimistic look.
Rohar gets outside and is lost. She sees 3 of the people that were inside and runs over.
"HI guys, I'm Rohar, are you headed to the sphinx? Can I tag along?"
The half orc looked at the giant with an honest smile. "Well of course. After all, we have to deal with this together. My name is Khaddim, nice to meet you Rohar." answered to the giant and extended his hand as a salute.
OOC: Sorry my bad, Gnash does speak it. I was on mobile and for some reason the features tab only shows racial languages, not the two background languages.
Gnash salutes the Pharaoh and quickly makes for the exit. Seeing the gathering group outside he will march over and say, "It appears we will be serving together on this task. I find in situations like this it is best to be clear up front. Know that while this fellowship holds true I will work to defend you all as if you were the queen herself. However, if you attempt to betray the group, this city, or her majesty I will not hesitate to bring everything I have against you. Now, someone said they are familiar with the way to our first destination?" Gnash meets them all with an even gaze as he says this and then does his best to flash a companionable smile, a hard thing to pull off with so many predatory looking teeth.
'Quite a chatty one, aren't you?' I smiled at Yurime through my bandages. It was not my experience that people pour their heart out to a stranger but perhaps this was customary in her homecountry. "Rashaken. That's a really lovely name, mister. I look forward to working with you", she beams before giving him a cheeky giggle.
Rohar gets outside and is lost. She sees 3 of the people that were inside and runs over.
"HI guys, I'm Rohar, are you headed to the sphinx? Can I tag along?"
After finishing her conversation with the druid who then started conversing with the two (perceived as buffed) slaves, she glances towards them and almost immediately, she tenses. Her concealed tail becomes entirely rigid, her fox ears fold downwards behind her crown in absolute fear and her breathing silently quickens. Must... be careful... choose... my words... and... what... I... do...
Seria comes into the throne room just as everyone was leaving. She glanced at everyone looking for their weaknesses and blind spots.
”Am I late?” She asked the pharaoh as if she had honestly forgotten she was supposed to be there. But she didn’t, she came late just to be able to talk without others who she couldn’t trust.
As soon as Seria makes her debut, the Kumiho becomes startled. Oh! Is that the last person that the queen summoned? I didn't see her at all in the temple! Did she get lost or something on the way?
Gnash salutes the Pharaoh and quickly makes for the exit. Seeing the gathering group outside he will march over and say, "It appears we will be serving together on this task. I find in situations like this it is best to be clear up front. Know that while this fellowship holds true I will work to defend you all as if you were the queen herself. Gnash meets them all with an even gaze as he says this and then does his best to flash a companionable smile, a hard thing to pull off with so many predatory looking teeth.
The now-quivering Kumiho made no remarks about Gnash as he attempts to bind the group together as one. In fact, speaking of betrayal, she is the one that's afraid that someone would betray the team (again). As the lizardfolk smiles, Yurime wasn't as intimidated as the slaves were to her.
Coming out after the crocodile, the tiefling says "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Can we go already?"
Again, another unnoticeable scowl coming from her. Tch! To have a friendly conversation with other summoned warriors ruined by this kind of mood... Who on earth spoiled him to the great heavens?! Don't forget, horned guy, you were one who launched the same mood back inside the scorched interior of the temple into our clearly sweating faces! I think I'll just refer to you as Mr Arrogant... for now. Despite this deep resentment, she didn't comment anything at all about the Tiefling as he approached the team.

( I’m so sorry it took so long I couldn’t find where the campaign was running)
Glad to have you..
Emphasis on the SHA part, lest people believe I'm shook.' The corner of my mouth curled up in a half-smile as I chuckled at my own wordplay. 'I'm afraid my own past is quite dull compared to what you have experienced. I merely come from out of the desert sands.' I grabbed a loosened strip of cloth around my arm, pulled it taut and reapplied it. 'Perhaps I should name myself that: Rashaken of the sands. Has a nice ring to it.'
'Have you any experience with sphinxes?'
I asked because the prospect of confronting one worried me.
Welcome aboard. ^^

Rohar gets outside and is lost. She sees 3 of the people that were inside and runs over.
"HI guys, I'm Rohar, are you headed to the sphinx? Can I tag along?"
Khaddim looked down in shame. "Sadly no, I don't have experience with them. As a slave of a noble family I mostly did as a carrier and butler. But with everyone here, I'm sure that we can deal with them." said with an optimistic look.
The half orc looked at the giant with an honest smile. "Well of course. After all, we have to deal with this together. My name is Khaddim, nice to meet you Rohar." answered to the giant and extended his hand as a salute.

To DM:
Coming out after the crocodile, the tiefling says "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Can we go already?"

All good. You're not the only one who had this problem. This happened to me in a previous pbp. Welcome to the team Anan.

"Rashaken. That's a really lovely name, mister. I look forward to working with you", she beams before giving him a cheeky giggle.
Must... be careful... choose... my words... and... what... I... do...
As soon as Seria makes her debut, the Kumiho becomes startled. Oh! Is that the last person that the queen summoned? I didn't see her at all in the temple! Did she get lost or something on the way?
The now-quivering Kumiho made no remarks about Gnash as he attempts to bind the group together as one. In fact, speaking of betrayal, she is the one that's afraid that someone would betray the team (again). As the lizardfolk smiles, Yurime wasn't as intimidated as the slaves were to her.

OOC: I'm so glad to have you on board! I'm sorry if I made it hard to find the campaign thread.
Kheprina and Aikhtiar both turn to Seria and sigh simultaneously. "You are, but no matter," the queen answers. "Follow the rest of the task force, they will fill you in on what your mission is. Unless you have something you wanted to tell me?"
