The Singing Fire is a fine establishment. You can tell the moment you enter the door. The apparel of those seated at the tables reveals they have a bit more money than the average person can spend on clothing. From the silver lighting fixtures to the finely-carved woodwork all around the room, you can see this place will cost you a bit more.
The innkeeper tells you a single room is available for two gold pieces each night. She does, however, expect your bird to be on its best behavior.
"These stories make me wish I was alive during that troubled time. To have a cause worth fighting for, to save people" Kurt says while staring off into nothing. Clearly in his own thoughts for a moment
"Yes, I suppose you would've done well fighting alongside those original four. They saved Syndaris from an army of fiends, they did," replies Huck after hearing Kurt's words.
"The bird is Celebquesse daughter of Meneldor, King over the Mountain, Lord of the Eagles. Her family and mine have our fates intertwined since time before reckoning by human accounts. And, as she is the heir to the throne of her people, so I am of mine. Frandal Silvereyes, heir of the Silvereyes clan is my name, my concerned host. You should not worry about our behavior. "
He says as he lends ten gold pieces to the inkeeper. Despite his words he ended smiling at her.
"Excuse me, what was your name again? Would you be so kind to point us to the correct place to sign up for the tournament please?"
After hearing the directions and before heading to them he adds.
"We will be here soon again. Would you be so kind to have a hoth bath ready at my room please? and we will take our dinner here at the common room if you don't mind. Be sure that there are uncooked rabbit on it please. And a perch in my room would also be outstanding. Thank you my dear."
*What's gotten into you? You didn't spit out titles and so since... years...*
*I wouldn't stand more insults to you. If just they just knew what you had did...*
The eagle lets her head rest into Frandal's head for a second.
*Sometimes you know how to be a charm.*
*And I wanted a room*
The eagle chuckles.
10 gp less for Frandal. Ahh nobility... it's expensive...
"Pardon my manners, Frandal Silvereyes. Pardon my manners. I'm Timzil, and The Singing Fire is pleased to host you."
She pauses, looks at Celebquesse and then back at you. "And pleased to host the daughter of Meneldor as well! No need to do anything for the tournament, just show your face anytime after midday and before sundown tomorrow. You'll pay your fee, sign your name, and off you'll go. If you'd like, I can have one of the stable boys walk you to the tournament grounds tomorrow. It's not far at all, however."
Before disappearing into the kitchen, she says, "Meal, raw rabbit, bath, perch. Yes, yes, yes. I can arrange all of that."
"Nice to make your aquintance, Timzil of the fine Singing Fire" he replies with a slight bow of his head "If that are the rules then we will wait here with a good wine while all the arrangments are made! Thank you!"
He then looks for an empty table, near the wall and the fireplace (if the night is getting cold) and with his back towards the wall he enjoys his wine and later the bath and the meal before. If nothing happens he will be up early in the morning ready to take a slight breakfast and go to the tournament grounds.
The remainder of the afternoon and evening hours transpire peacefully and without any remarkable events. Approximately three or four hours pass before you retire to your room, and during that time period you overhear just one snippet of conversation among the guests that you file away in your mind. Not long after sitting down by the fire with your wine, you hear an elderly dwarf female ask Timzil if Thoradin Brokenhammer had arrived at The Singing Fire yet. Timzil replied, "No, ma'am, I haven't seen Thoradin yet. But you know those Windhovers are busy people; so he may be running a day behind."
The whisky and all parts of the meal are more than satisfactory, and you are uninterrupted as you enjoy your first hot meal in several days. As you're taking the last bit of the smoked fish, you hear a booming voice--it's Broon's, of course--announcing that he'd love to double his fun this afternoon by throwing some dice and wagering a bit of silver.
"Could I interest anyone in a gentleman-like game of chance? I have some dice and some money. Now let's see if I have some luck!" he says before breaking into a fit of laughter.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Sorry forgot to include this in my previous post)
After eating his food, Xellos will retire to his room and quietly sits on the side of the bed.
He takes out the brass trinket and casts Detect Magic to see if it's magical at all. He also looks over the trinket to see it's properties, where it may come from, or *what* it actually is.
(Disregard the spoiler, got too ahead of myself, the rolls can be used later in his room if it comes up)
Xellos finishes his meal in bliss, particularly the smoked fish. He puts the wine bottle in his bag, makes sure his coin pouch is extra secure, and makes his way over to Broon.
"Normally I would avoid this, but sure. I'm game for a go or two." He says to him as he sits down.
"That's the spirit, sir. My name's Broon, and may I suggest we play a Syndarian favorite? It's called silver nines. You put up nine silver. I put up nine silver. And then we take turns rolling the dice. The first to roll two dice that add up to 9 is the winner and takes all the silver. Both of us get the same number of turns, however. So, if you roll first and happen to get 9 on the dice, then I have one roll to do the same. If I don't roll 9, then the silver is yours. If I do roll 9, the game continues back and forth."
He smiles and says, "Simple game, eh? Good for those of us who might've had too much whisky! Not too many rules. Ha! Roll first, my friend, if you're willing."
Roll 2d6 if you're interested. I'm thinking you could roll multiple times (ten maybe?). Then I could do the same, and we'll compare the results and see who rolled the first 9. That'll speed things up, I think. Your call.
By the way, to give you a better frame of reference, here's a map of Talisten. Your route of travel from the docks to the Sham's Peg is along the yellow dotted line. I've provided information only for those buildings along your path. It seems reasonable that you would notice what those places were as you passed them. This map may be helpful as the story continues. We shall see.

Alora listens to the tale and has taken out a book which she is jotting various facts down. She greets each party member in turn. Beginning with Kurt then Ozum.
"Good to meet you Kurt Stoneseeker what area of expertise are you hoping to best your opponents with if combat is out of the question," Alora asks curiously.
Awaiting his reply she turns to Ozum.
"Good to meet you Ozum as for myself I think a contest of wits seems like something I am most keen to try my hand at. I am curious however about this rule that blocks the use of magic. I am curious how a tournament meant to honor those protectors with magical weapons as well as able to wield magic themselves could be held without magic's use," she adds.
Her expression curious and contemplative looking around at the halflings who seem to know the area and custom before it strikes her that she might in fact know the halfing Garrett!
"Garret I think I had the pleasure of meeting your kin on the way here," Alora begins with a soft smile at the halfling then to his companions. "The two older were called Mazy and Tarnie but I can't say I caught the youngest's name. They help me find my way here and they have high hopes for you to win," she adds.

"Well to be honest if the 8gold entrance fee allows me,I wish to compete in it all, I am still unclear about what the magicians gambit is, I may be weakest in that contest. However I think I am skilled enough to have a chance to win the rest of the challenges." Kurt responds to Alora. Kurt radiates complete confidence.
Mithro speaks up, "The magician's gambit is a thinking man's game, Kurt. It involves placing colored stones on a game board. There's some sort of strategy involved, I imagine. The more stones you place, the more difficult the game becomes."
"I think they all sound interesting," Alora begins looking at Kurt. "I just wish there was a way we could learn more about each of them before giving up the coin to enter whilst they remain shrouded in mystery," Alora adds beaming before Mithro chimes in.
By all accounts Alora seems quite innocent for her age which some find endearing while others are most often annoyed by it!
"Oh so you do know? Is there any luck you know about each of the events," Alora asked the halfling curiously, pen at the ready!
Xellos sits down and says "Very well, if you insist Broon. I am Xellos. I don't normally gamble, but you look friendly enough..." He puts down 9 silver in a stack. "Simple enough. Alright here goes nothing."
Xellos takes the two dice and rolls...

"Mazy, Tarnie, and Tam?! Ran off from my sister did they? " He shakes his head while smiling ear to ear. "Those three'll brighten the darkest of days, Alora. I never expected to love the title of 'Uncle' so much. I had breakfast with 'em this morning and told 'em I'd see 'em tomorrow at the tournament. With Huck, Mithro, and my nieces and nephew I'll have quite a cheering section, I suppose. I hope they weren't too much trouble for you. If I know Tarnie, he was probably asking to shoot your crossbow or something like that."
