(OOC: never mind lol. was going to roll to see if it is a jennet or a jack , but looks like we've decided on "Kong" so I'm assuming the donkey is a jack :'D lol, the original roll was a nat 20 so I guess he likes the name? :'D)
He pats the donkey, "I've... never heard that name before. Sounds good though!"
(lol, I was to slow in my editing :'D I missed your last post so I went back and removed that. but if we want a Konga we can have one lol. ((I originally had even=jennet odd=jack and got a 20 sooo)) )
Lucian glances from Chara to the donkey... and then to its underside. Donkey's are a lot harder to tell apart than horses are (gender-wise), so he has to bend over a little to look... His face goes a little red and he says with an awkward chuckle, "Uh... Chara's right. I think we've got a jennet." He looks at Eithne, "Is...there a feminine variation of that name?"
He puts his hand on top of the donkey's head, and whispers, "Uh...Sorry, girl." .
Bran laughs at the whole gender and naming situation.
- How about we leave Kong as the name? It doesn't really matter if its a jack or a jenny right? I once read the tale of a warrior that named his mare "Roach". We cannot do worse than that ...!
Funny thing: in the Spanish version of The Witcher books, the mare is called "Sardinilla". Which is a fish. Crazy.
Lucian frowns, "Roach? ...Maybe the name was meant to be frightening?" He gives a laugh, "But... you're right. It doesn't really matter as long as she learns to respond to it."
As they walk along, Nikolai will remark to Bran, "I spent the first twelve years of my life in Krezk. As Barovian villages go, it was more tolerant of half-breeds and oddballs than many other places. I left when my mother died, though. I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about your family."
(OOC: I'm tying to set this part in a moment after Ichabod is gone but when we still haven't followed the wrong road. Sorry for that, btw ... :/ )
After the discussion of the donkey gender, and still waiting a little for Ichabod's return, Bran and Nikolai talk for a while.
- Oh, so you lived in Krezk? Until you were twelve? In that case I don't think we could have met, because Elia and I moved to Krezk but five years ago - he shakes his head, and adds - Erm ... let's ignore the fact that I don't really know when that "five years ago" is exactly situated due to my lack of memories. Anyway. She and I lived most of our lives in the village of Barovia. But when we found out she was pregnant we decided to move to Krezk. I say "decided" as if it was part of a carefully laid out plan, but the truth is we kind of ... freaked out?- he laughs a little, reminiscing - Yeah, I guess that's the right word to use in this case. Among the many things we thought and decided during those days, one was to move to a smaller village, that could be a little "away" from everything. Krezk sounded just about right for that. So we just packed, travelled light and didn't really stop in any village or talked to anyone else in between. Who would have thought I was carrying the very thing we should have been running away from - he adds, bitterly.
- In any case, thanks for your thought, Nikolai. I'm sorry to hear that your mother passed away. And the fact that mixed heritages have to be "tolerated". It shouldn't be that way.
Though he would want to hear more about the half-elf's past, Bran doesn't add much as he is not sure that Nikolai will want to speak further about it.
Cole pauses. Granted he was kind of a different person with the druids but still the memories of the surrounding nature haven’t left him and are not adding up with what he’s seeing. “I hate to admit this, everyone. But I believe we’re going in the wrong direction. I’m familiar with the land around the winery and nothing is matching up.”
... “I hate to admit this, everyone. But I believe we’re going in the wrong direction. I’m familiar with the land around the winery and nothing is matching up.”
"Oh, then we'd better go back and take the other route" Eithne replies. "Good thing you noticed, Cole..."
"Ah, no, not yet..." the savage stranger realizes "Ichabod is scouting ahead, we have to wait for him to come back or he might not find us".
Ichabodreplies, "I suspected as much. I have flown to the end of this road and the structure there looked like a dilapidated monastery or fortress of some sort, not a winery. Of course, I didn't get too close as there may have been...relics of good, but I thought I did see some movement within the structure. Perhaps a destination for another time. I shall return within a few minutes, madam."
Once Ichabod returns and you have another look at the map, you realize that this road wasn't really the crossroads you were looking for. It came too early on the trip and there is no river nearby. You'll have to continue along the road to get to your destination. So, you do.
Walking another 40 minutes, you come to another crossroads, but again there is no river and you decide to follow the road. 20 minutes later, you see a crossroads, followed by a short bridge over a river. Bran recognizes the bridge as a landmark for travelling to Kreszk. Indeed, as you approach the crossroads, you see a weatherworn signpost next to the road. The three arms of the sign point along the three branches of the road. The arm pointing north reads Krezk, and through the woods you can see an arching stone bridge spanning a river. The arm pointing east reads Vallaki, and the road slopes up gradually in that direction. The arm pointing southwest reads The Wizard of Wines. The road slopes gently downward in that direction.
As you turn to head down the road to the southwest, two men step out of the woods to the west of the road. Both wear poorly tanned furs, beads and bones woven into their matted hair, and bone knives in their hands.
One says, "Hello, fellow travelers! We have a companion in the woods here who is wounded. Would you be able to come and help?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bran is also surprised when Cole points out they were about to follow the wrong road.
- Phew, good thing you noticed!
Once they reach the bridge towards Krezk, he looks silently for a while at the northern road that leads there, wondering what he'll find out at the end of it. But that is for another moment, so he just sighs and follows the group.
When the two strangers appear, he says:
-Hello, friends. Sorry to hear. Hope is not too grave a wound. What happened?
(OOC: Insight just in case there's no wounded friend and we should expect being wounded ourselves xD 16. Original result in case the edit breaks it: 20)
Eithne is absolutely suspicious of the two (OOC: despite the figure posted by the DM being so reassuring... who wouldn't immediately trust two poor guys like those?) and nonchalantly approaches the vegetation from which they emerged, with all her senses alert for signs of ambush or danger.
If she too does not detect any, while the two are distracted talking, the savage stranger hides in the vegetation; if the party decides to follow them to help, she will also follow, hopefully undetected, ready to intervene in case of need.
Lucian blinks, "Uh..."

Chara squeamishly looks at the donkeys... um... 'underside.'
"Um, Eithne, what exactly are you seeing?" Chara asks, noting an absolute lack of... well... you know. "I'm pretty sure that's a female...?"
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

Chara is a bit surprised... but then again, this is Barovia. Everything is off.
"Give me a couple moments, I'll see if I can call him back," Chara says.
Chara is going to try to telepathically communicate with Ichabod and find out where he is/let him know what Cole just said.
