Regardless of who takes the lead, Khessa greets the bizarre company before leaving: "Members of the Society of Brilliance, we thank you infinitely for the help you have given us spontaneously and without expecting anything in return!" she embraces them one by one (unless someone doesn't like it), always smiling "We will leave no stone unturned to save the Underdark..." deep determination sparkles in his blue eyes "and the rest of the life on Toril, probably!"
"Despite I don't particularly like the dark," the tall adventuress admits "I'll be happy if I meet you again - maybe, when this ugly matter has been settled, we'll get together and celebrate! Did you ever taste cabbages? The other food won't seem to taste the same anymore, after you'll try my cabbages! I'll cook you... yes! Lemon garlic sauteed cabbages with onions!" she winks "Obviously, that means you have to take care of yourself, okay? I don't want any of you to be missing! Well, we are going then... the sooner we start, the sooner we finish!"
After that, the blonde arcane warrior stores the beautiful memory of the unexpected help deep in her soul and focuses on the hardships and dangers of the underground ways of the Underdark...
Then maybe Katryl should lead us? She is the most perceptive...
Oh, ok, no, my bad, I remember now; we had Ebzer and Silas in front line. So maybe Silas (who is not much worse than Katryl, anyway, in spotting things) should roll perception. Unless we want to change things for this part of the journey, that is.
Silas, having rested and thanked the Society, makes his way to the front of the party. "Into the unknown, eh?"

(How fast are you traveling?)
During the second day of travel, you come down a long easy slope and notice a group of five quaggoths quietly watching you all as you pass by. Perhaps a mildly unusual encounter made stranger as you get close to them and notice that they all seem to be covered in...fungus. Moldy and strange mushrooms dotting their bodies and they make not advance on you, merely watching you silently.
Katryl gets a full night's worth of rest and then follows along with the group, Silas at the lead.
At the sight of the quaggoths, she isn't quite sure what to make of them. She asks Eldeth first if she has any idea why they would be covered with fungus. If the dwarf doesn't know, she'll enquire with some of the other Underdark inhabitants. She's curious, but not so sure they should bother disturbing these folks.
Eldeth has no idea why mold and shrooms would be covering such a creature. Stool mentions though that the patterns look somewhat familiar to things he's seen back home in Netherlight Grove.
Khessa is too intrigued by this strange encounter to simply go on (as it would probably safer to do), so she waves at the Quaggoths and greets them warmly: "Hi and well met, friends! How are you? And... may I ask why do you let these fungi cover you? Do they have beneficial properties?"
Traydark too would thank the Society of Brilliance for their invaluable help as the group takes their leave. He wasn't particularly fond of continuing in foot for the long journey to Gracklstugh but her gritted his teeth and kept walking. As the group rested he would spend his time pondering the recent demonic events as well as teaching the arcane warrior how to master the magic of the Underdark.
"Keep your distance, quaggoths are an unbalanced race at best and that fungus looks a bit ominous to me at least." The noble drow says in a loered voice as they all encounter the fungus covered quaggoths. "Can you expand on that statement Stool? Can you be a bit more specific?"Traydark responds to Stool assuming he was subjected to the myconid sprout's rapport spores.

Stool says that while the fungus has some familiarity to it, they've never seen it infect something like a quaggoth before and suggests going to Netherlight Grove where there might be someone who would know more than he does.

...
"Guess not..." Khessa comments, in a low voice, with her companions "If those mushrooms can reduce robust creatures like those to mere idiots capable only of watch in silence, then probably they have no beneficial effects".
"Indeed," adds the tall adventuress, looking back on recent events "they might even be demonic mushrooms... If demons of all kinds are suddenly able to leave the Abyss to scour the Underdark, I don't see why the eventual demonic vegetation could not!"
"We can afford a very short break, right?" the blonde arcane warrior is seized by a sudden idea and she begins an arcane ritual that by now the most observant of her traveling companions have come to know: she is summoning her own trusted Stealthy Butler! When the servant arrives, Khessa has it approach one of the Quaggoths from the opposite side of the group (so that, even if discovered, perhaps the servant it is not immediately associated to them) and has it delicately peel off a small portion of mushrooms.
If the maneuver succeeds without catastrophic consequences, the blonde arcane warrior exhorts everyone: "Okay, let's go, I don't think there is anything interesting here anymore".
Once the group has left, she has the servant deliver the sample, making it wrap it in rags so as not to touch it and explaining (even only to herself): "I wanted to have a sample to try and study them... with caution of course! If they have a demonic nature, perhaps they can also provide clues on how to counter the demons".
"Oh, they were always morons Khessa, and if those mushrooms made them more docile I would say they had a very beneficial effect on them. Now, if you really think those mushrooms could be of demonic origin I hope you will be very careful with not getting in contact with them." He says, giving Khessa a sincere look, then ready to move on.

Arcana check to know things about Zuggtmoy, the Lady of Rot and Decay: 19
You can recall that she is an alien creature from the Abyss, on the same plane as Jubilex, her eternal nemesis. Rampant mold and spores from her are known to infect anything and everything, turning all into fodder for her more insidious creations.
(Trying to determine the origin and contagiousness of whatever is growing on the quaggoths... quaggi? quaggonim?
They certainly aren't your normal looking mushrooms (as normal as can be for the Underdark) but true effects are unknown. Probably best to steer clear.
