Gath feels the Psychic attack and using his training avoids most of it and diminishing it even further. (Saved for half of 43 and I have Psychic Resistance so 10 damage.
`Zathistura feels his brains near explode and starts bleeding from his nose.
(natural 1 rolled....NOTE: ( profficiency....so we should remove the proficiency from saves as well? In which case we should roll in forum instead of dice roller...I can adjust the weapons attacks to remove proficiency easily enough but not saves in DDB)
(I don't see zathistura on the initiative count - also..would it be possible to counter spell the darkness?)
As counterspell requires the caster to see the spell being cast no. Also, it is actually a psionic ability.
For all practical purposes, this is an area effect
You are in close proximity to Maanzecorian, the dead God of the mind flayer pantheon. He is approximately as strong as his avatar and uses his 2e stats, with the appropriate 5e adjustments applied to save DC and presumably anything else he might do.
I did replace the weird spell with maddening darkness because it made all the sense in the world to me to do so, both mechanically and thematically, and it's a 1 level lower spell (8th vs. 9th)
Zarhistura is at the bottom of the order, a 5. I either failed a copy paste check or didn't scroll all the way down when transcribing.
<I dont track PC's bonuses, hp or anything else unless I have to, like it makes an attacker roll with DA. So, however you want to adjust the proficiency, that's up to you. This was my workaround for the designer's plan to nerf your spellcasring as if you were half level and lost proficiency with various other things. The point is to simulate the fact rhat you are not in your own body, so your martial skills are not as good, your spellcasting is not as good and your not as adept at skulking or as nimble fingers as you were in your own body. It might not be perfect, but it's what I went with, and I stand by it.>
Val also reels from the psychic energy, and is badly hurt. The darkness disorients her, but she tries to remember what she saw of the room briefly. She moves to try to escape the darkness, heading towards the door. Not sure what, if anything, she can do, she casts haste on herself and uses the xtra movement to try to escape.
In the darkness, Val bumps several tabkes laden with corpses on their way to the far wall. Feeling for the door un the darkness they find an opening large enough to fit through.
A few steps later, still in darkness, (this spell goes around corners) at the last second you stop as you feel the edge of the surface on which you are walking. Far below, you hear the sounds of splashing water echo in a cavernous space

<retcon (dm got confused): drow A cast true seeing on himself, not the other drow.>
Drow B rushes toward the risen humanoids and fires a bolt from his hand crossbow at Todd before continuing his assault.
Hand Crossbow X Todd: 14 to hit, 11 piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the target is also unconscious while poisoned in this way. The target regains consciousness if it takes damage or if another creature takes an action to shake it
The drow slashes Brutus with his shadow blade. He then vanishes, reappearing behind Garth and stabbing him in the back.
Shadow Sword X Brutus: 22 to hit, 36 necrotic damage.
Shadow Step. While in dim light or darkness, the drow teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space it can see that is also in dim light or darkness. It then has advantage on the first melee attack it makes before the end of the turn.
Shadow Sword X Garth: 28 to hit, 26 necrotic damage.
"That's it, D'waain! Give them no quarter. Show rhem no mercy!" encourages the other drow.

Lyssa van Zarovich attacks Brutus
Multiattack (Vampire Form Only). The vampire makes two attacks, only one of which can be a bite attack.
Unarmed Strike (Vampire Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: 13 to hit. Instead of dealing damage, the vampire can grapple the target (escape DC 18).
If he is grappled, Lyssa bites Brutus, otherwise she attacks again with her sharp nails before retreating (if unseen, no AO)
Hit: 105 piercing damage plus 17 necrotic damage. The target’s hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken, and the vampire regains hit points equal to that amount. The reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.
Garth WIS Save: 11

(I can still see in this room with my devils sight correct?)
