The snake writhes but is incapable of twisting its massacred body out of your vomit's reach and is completely covered. It dies immediately and as it does, a strange thing happens--the mold on the snakes tail starts to smoke, almost as though the two substances are combining in an aggressive dance of alchemy.
As a reminder you are on your hands and knees so if you are going to move on your next turn you'll need to factor that in. There was no update to the map.

Atheneyou deftly land on a nice clean patch of land and look around. Immediately you can see the dragonborn on her hands and knees through a little break in the trees--she is on a log. You've seen a lot of things in your years in the forest and this must be a first.
You are now within 15 feet of the creature making the anguished squawking noises but still can't see it through the trees. You get the sense it must be small, and it must not be moving much (otherwise you would have seen it by now).
Here is a wider view of the aerial view which includes Eylf on the lower right hand side (which means she's up ahead to your left). But you are aiming for the noise, which is straight ahead (aiming down on the map). At this rate you will likely arrive before she does.
Also, here is what your immediate vicinity looks like. You are now in a situation where you have trees to deal with. I will outline trees in your close proximity so you can see if they are sitting in mold, hoping this helps you make navigation decisions.

Athene lands gracefully on the grass. She glances over to where the dragonborn is kneeling. Her eyes go wide at the sight of the stranger spewing acid all over the snake. 'What kind of monster is this?'she thinks to herself. She puts the horror of it out of her mind and continues down towards the sound, along the pristine grass.

" Sorry...but it was quicker than what that stuff was doing to you,", she whispered before rising to her feet and gingerly making her way forward slowly.
Eylfif you are rising to your feet I'd like an acrobatics check, please and thanks. Your 16 in perception is noted.
AtheneI'm not sure you would have seen Eylf vomit on the snake as her turn was before yours and you really only rolled a 10 in investigation. But I think you would see the dead snake, and maybe even the vomit. Thing is, would you have known that this Dragonborn vomited acid thus killing the snake? Not sure.
Question for Eylfactually. What colour is your regurgitated acid?

Athene lands gracefully on the grass. She catches only glimpses of what is happening off to her left with the outsider. A dead snake? Looks like a victim of the mold, perhaps. It's difficult to tell. She continues down towards the sound, along the pristine grass. Athene moves slowly, scanning for the source of the noise.
Atheneyour cool methodical nature is proving to be quite an ally, as you have finally, safely, arrived within viewing distance of the noise. Well, almost. The complete view is obstructed by the trunk of a tree. But, peeking around the tree you can see just enough to understand what the noise is and where it is coming from: there appears to be a large, grey animal lying prone and still on the ground, but there are also appears to be some lighter coloured, smaller animals on top of it.
OOC Roll an investigation check to learn more, or move once more to get a better view. No need for a dex or perception check at this point to guide you--the route would be obvious at this point. Map is here.

Eylfafter vomitting a wave of clear, dense acid onto the pitiful creature, you get yourself upright and take a look around. While you know the noise to be originating in the direction that the log is pointing, you can quite clearly see that the direct path is crowded with trees, and full of large boggy swatches of mold. Your best bet, you think, is to go a bit further away from the mold (south of where you currently are on the map, here) and then to climb back up.
OOC Roll an acrobatics check to secure a safe landing off the log, and another perception check for once you get to where you are going.

Atheneyou can't quite make out anything new so you move a few squares down (map here) and are able to finally make sense of the scene.
Having lived in the forest and having seen nature at its most raw, you have seen a lot of things, but maybe not something like this. A wolf lies, dead, on the ground--having succumbed to the blight. Two emaciated cubs lie on top of her, feeble and squawking from pain, or hunger, or something else, you cannot say. They are quite young, perhaps too young to eat on their own. But they clearly haven't eaten in a while. Your keen eyes can pick out blood on their mouths--their own, or their mother's, you cannot say.
Just as you are finally seeing what you are dealing with Eylfhas landed on her feet and has made her way a little bit further down.
Eylf, the ground is marbled with mold and you know that if you are to continue trying to get to the noises, you basically have two choices:
You will either need to go a bit further down to get to a wider patch of clean ground, requiring you to leap over a fairly wide swath of mold (and requiring an athletic check)
or you'll need to be delicate and nimble if you go in the more immediate direction of the sound (requiring another acrobatics check)
Your map is here, and you are now within 25 feet of each other (in a diagonal direction on the map).

Athene feels a twinge of sadness at the sight. Nature is cruel at times, even without the Blight corrupting it. Every elf in Aelmistra was taught this at a young age. She ponders this scene for a moment. The cubs don't seem afflicted, not as far as she can tell. But they're young and feeble. It's doubtful they'll survive much longer on their own. Strigia would abandon them to their fate. 'The balance of nature is beyond our control,' she would say. Athene pauses. She could shoot something for them to eat, but then she would be trading the life of one for another. Slowly, she puts her bow away and retreats from the scene. "An injured animal," she calls to the stranger. "No threat to us. Let's go."
Eylf you leap over the wide patch of mold and grab onto the thick trunk of a tree for balance, landing steadily on your two feet. You can hear the voice of your unseen companion but because of the thickening trees around, you still can't see her. You are about 30-35 feet away from each other.
A bit of silence hangs in the air for a moment after your confession, Eylf. And then, all of a sudden, a flutter from above--many large birds are circling the trees above where Athene stands.
