Alben walks up the stairs to investigate the scepter as he steps onto the ten-foot-square marble landing the bas-relief gnome in front of you (between the two flights of stairs to the 3rd level), animates and speaks. Saying " If you wish an audience with the king, place your finest coin in my mouth."
Do you...
A. Keep on going up to the 3rd level
Or
B. Go over to the bas-relief and put something in its mouth (what)?
Alben recalls hearing about something similar, in that case a statute of a dwarf if not satisfied would take strength from the offender. There is definitely some kind of strong magic involved
Knowing that the gnome king is an illusion, you are fairly certain that the scepter is also, but you won't know for sure unless you try to touch it or cast detect magic
Both the gnome king and scepter show the milky white aura of illusion magic. While you can't see the bas-relief from where you are, you do see the black aura of necromancy from that area. You also see a line of the pale blue of conjuration connecting the bas-relief the thrones right armrest. You think there might be a secret compartment in the armrest but don't quite see where. (With that perception you can roll again adding +2)
Alben finds a secret compartment in the armrest, he reach out and almost opens it, but at the last moment he thinks about traps and withdrawals his hand.
"Hay Shadow, come up here and check this armrest for traps, there is something inside it. Also, pay the wall on the way up, you will regret it otherwise."
Do you walk up to the throne to examine the runes, if so do you pay the price to see the "king"? If yes to both go you go up the southern or northern stairs to get to the third level?
Tyris pays the GP to the bas-relief as it disappears it, Laladak, Shadow, and Alben here a metallic clang in the compartment, looking in they see a new GP.
Alben doesn't detect any magic on the rods (yes it's still active), and his lore doesn't reveal anything about them.
Oreus I need to know if you walk up to the throne to examine the rods, if so do you pay the price to see the "king"? If yes to both go you go up the southern or northern stairs to get to the third level?

Shadow carefully inspects the compartment of traps, but doesn't find anything.
Shodow opens the compartment, as he does so the illusory king wakes up and speaks
Betrayed we are by our own magic,
One by one, we fade away –
Jzadirune’s lost! Oh, how tragic!
We curse the vanishing day.
When the verse is done the illusion disappears, leaving an empty throne.
Looking inside the compartment Shadow finds...

Laladak asks the group, "Are those one of those counterfeit coins circulating the city?"
I got alot a doods
"I believe those gold pieces are what we paid below" tentatively, Alben grabs and removes the rods and all gold pieces.
