Personality description: Nothing can shake my optimistic attitude. I’ve spent so long in the temple that I have little practical experience dealing with people in the outside world.
Their fear, flaws, strengths: I am suspicious of strangers and expect the worst of them. Once I pick a goal, I become obsessed with it to the detriment of everything else in my life.
Backstory: When Kane was young, he had become lost in a snowstorm, and was found by the Monks of the Silver Crescent. Joining the order, he began his dedication to the art of Kendo and its perfection.
How they will pay for their tuition: He has some gold he has earned in service to the monastery and local populace
This sounds like fun. New to the play by post scene and 5th edition but I grew up playing 3.5 and enjoy the rp elements.
[Will put ability stats here when I figure out the rolling]
Name: Beohrt
Race: Human
Class: monk(way of the 4 elements) lvl 5/ wizard (school of divination) lvl 5 [question, do we need to make characters using the app/website and link to them like others have done here? I built this character around schools I don't have access to yet until I buy the digital handbook. If need be I'll just change my subclasses to open hand and no subclass for the monk and wizard respectively]
Personality description: Timid and awkward, he talks too little or too much and people tend to love him or hate him, at least that's been his experience with the few people he's interacted with.
Their fear, flaws, strengths: He is afraid of failure and he is slow to act which often leads to inaction on his part which has caused him some regrets. But he would be a loyal friend, if he could make any haha.
Backstory: Beohrt (pronounced bay-oart) was born to a humble farming family. From an early age he showed a great interest in magic and the weave and would often play at being a wizard, mostly by himself as his siblings and peers didn't understand this obsession of his, but his parents knew he wasn't cut out for a nice life of farming.
So, when he came of age they encouraged him to head to the monastery to study and learn what he would. He spent many years chopping wood and carrying water and, most exciting for him, studying the four elements, but he knew that this couldn't be all that magic entailed.
It was at the monastery that he learned to read and write and the other monks often asked for him to write copies of manuscripts as he turned out to be a gifted calligrapher. But in reading he learned more about magic and the weave and he longed to learn to cast spells and delve into the mysteries of the cosmos.
His sensei sensed that his destiny lied beyond the walls of the temple and once again he was sent off to a strange land to learn what he would. He became an apprentice to a diviner and took up that school as it most suit him. Now his apprenticeship is over but he knows there is still much more to learn and he would apply to the Monastery of the Universe.
How they will pay for their tuition: He will work to pay for his tuition as a calligrapher, writer, librarian, custodian, or anything else he can do as he does not come from money or have much in savings from the life he's lead so far.
Class: Monk 9 (Way of the Four Elements) / Druid 1
Background: Outlander
Backstory: There exists a community of genasi druidic monks - water, earth, air, fire - who call themselves the Wardenfold. They work to sustain a balance upon the tropical isle of Tsunigawa by redirecting the forces of nature. Lava flows are guided away from crops, storms are eased into gentle rains, earthquakes are dampened into comforting vibrations. Monsters that rise from the deep are no match for the druidic martial arts that protect the island. All is in balance.
Miko was only a child when a dark storm gripped her family's houseboat, snapped its moorings, and carried it out into the raging night. When dawn broke, Miko was alone among the wreckage that washed up on the shore of Tsunigawa. The Wardenfold took her in, cared for her, and waited with her on the shore for any sign of her family. None appeared.
As the weeks drew into months, the Wardenfold included Miko in their work. They showed her how to touch the elements, how to read the moods of nature, and how to call upon them in need. They taught her the Way of the Four Elements, and she delighted in it. The day came when her masters encouraged her to leave Tsunigawa, to seek out Headmaster Librath, and enter into the Monastery, for they believed Miko was meant for more than the island offered.
And so Miko left Tsunigawa, traveled through unfamiliar lands, and now knocks at the door of the Monastery of the Universe, unsure what new trials await her.
Tuition Payment Plan: Miko offers her services to the monks of the monastery in exchange for tuition. She tends to the gardens, cooks meals, and cleans the monastery, all with the same sense of purpose that she applies to her studies.
Personality description:
1) Every genasi master had something wise to say on every topic, and I am eager to share that wisdom.
2) I connect everything that happens to me to an overarching cosmic order.
3) I am deeply invested in exploring new ideas, but I have yet to find anything that is more satisfying than the simple philosophy of the Wardenfold. Balance in all things.
Fears:
1) Fear of Family - Whether dead or alive, any news of my family will be distressing. It is almost easier to not know anything than to deal with my unknown past.
2) Fear of Too Many Comforts - Life on Tsunigawa was simple. I needed to work for every small comfort. Since returning to the world, I have indulged in the new flavors and feelings. I am afraid I give into these easy comforts too much and that it will lead to a realization of Fear #3.
3) Fear of the Shadow - I was raised by druidic genasi monks and so have an outsider's perspective of common humanity. I think many humans are too susceptible to unhealthy chaos, varying wildly between good and evil. I fear my own capacity to do evil with the gifts I have cultivated.
Flaws:
1) Miko is perhaps too dogmatic in her thoughts and philosophy. While she professes adherence to the same changeability as is found in Nature, that adherence is bound by her own understanding of what is and is not "good" change.
2) Now that she has returned to the world, she enjoys its delights a little too much. Sweet treats, savory meats, and alcohol have a particular allure for her.
Strengths:
1) Elemental Connection - My talents are heavily rooted in the four elements and my bond with nature.
2) Wanderer (Outlander) - I'm very good with maps and not getting lost. I can also find food, if there is any to be had.
3) Harmony - Miko will exhaust peaceful negotiations before resorting to "aggressive negotiations".

Difficult to get close to due to his analytical nature. Listens more than he speaks, which tends to mean he notices more. Backstory: Ch’Kaw comes from the Roost, an institute which worships and is dedicated to knowledge and truth which has been his home for his entire life. Kenku are prized at the Roost, due to their innate ability to retain information, and often occupy positions of authority. Such is the case with both his parents. For his part though, the gifts he was given related more to investigation than research, which were his parents domain. He is a part of the Roost Investigatory Annexe (RIA), which supplies investigators to cities and towns to help solve the more complicated crimes. He has been chosen by the Roost to attend the Monastery of the Universe as part of an exchange. How they will pay for their tuition: His presence is as part of an exchange between the Roost and the Monastery of the Universe. He believes there might be more to it though, as the Monastery of the Universe explicitly requested someone from the RIA.
