Utilizing the scattered remnants of the smithy's former tools, they employ tongs, bellows, hammers, and a pair of iron anvils to fortify their defenses.
First, they reinforce the western entrance, barring it with makeshift barricades to prevent any unwanted intrusions. The sturdy materials at their disposal provide a solid barrier against potential threats. Moving swiftly, they turn their attention to the two windows, ensuring they are tightly sealed off to deny any entry points.
With the western side secured, they then focus on fortifying the eastern door, the sole entrance and exit of their newly claimed space. They reinforce it with additional barriers, reinforcing its strength against any potential adversaries.

Ripper, the stealthy and perceptive wolf, ventures out into the ruins of Thundertree while the group fortifies the Old Smithy. With her natural agility and keen senses, she navigates the dilapidated structures with grace and silence. In the ruins, Ripper's keen nose detects a pungent odor, the distinct scent of decay and ash that permeates the air. She maneuvers through the debris and overgrown vegetation, her light footsteps barely leaving a trace. Her acute senses catch glimpses of movement amidst the ruins. From her vantage point, Ripper spots several creatures lurking in the shadows—small, scaly creatures known as Twig Blights. They skulk about, their gnarled forms blending seamlessly with the surrounding foliage.
Beyond the Twig Blights, Ripper's keen eyes catch sight of something more ominous—a large figure, imposing and reptilian in nature. It is a young Green Dragon, its emerald scales shimmering in the sunlight that filters through the canopy above. The dragon prowls near the ruins of a dilapidated tower, its watchful gaze scanning its territory with an air of dominance. Ripper takes note of the dragon's presence and observes its movements, careful not to draw its attention. The information she gathers will prove invaluable to Vayle and his companions as they plan their next course of action.
As Ripper continues her stealthy exploration, her perceptive gaze catches sight of a group of cloaked figures congregating near a crumbling cottage at the southeastern end of Thundertree. These figures bear the unmistakable markings of cultists, their dark robes adorned with symbols of a twisted serpent. Ripper observes their movements and behaviors from a safe distance, noticing their fervent demeanor and the air of devotion that surrounds them. They seem to be engaged in some form of ritual or ceremony, their hushed voices carrying faint echoes through the decaying structures. The cultists move with a sense of purpose, their actions hinting at a shared objective. They appear to be guarded, ever watchful for any intruders or threats that might interrupt their activities. Ripper's acute senses detect an undercurrent of malevolence and fanaticism within their ranks.

As Vayle shares Ripper's findings with Simon and Droop, their minds start working together to devise a plan that could potentially leverage the presence of the cultists to deal with the young green dragon in Thundertree.
Simon's eyes light up with excitement as an idea takes shape in his mind. He turns to Vayle and explains his plan with enthusiasm. He suggests that they could pose as potential recruits or sympathizers of the cult, offering their assistance to further the cultists' cause. By gaining their trust and proving themselves useful, they might be able to convince the cultists to aid them in dealing with the dragon. Simon details the plan further, emphasizing the need to understand the cultists' beliefs and goals in order to tailor their approach effectively. He proposes that they gather more information about the cult, its activities, and its leaders, using their knowledge to create a convincing narrative that aligns with the cult's interests.
The young sorcerer suggests that they approach the cultists with an offer of strategic assistance, presenting themselves as valuable allies who can provide crucial resources or expertise in dealing with threats such as the dragon. By positioning themselves as indispensable assets to the cult, they can earn the cultists' trust and forge a temporary alliance for their mutual benefit. Simon acknowledges the risks involved in dealing with the cultists, cautioning that they must remain vigilant and be prepared to adapt their plan if necessary. However, he believes that this approach offers them the best chance of securing the cultists' aid and effectively neutralizing the threat of the green dragon.
With the plan laid out, Vayle considers Simon's idea, recognizing its potential effectiveness in their current predicament. They discuss the details further, making necessary adjustments and contingencies to ensure their safety and success.

Vayle figures the sooner they contact the cultists, the sooner they deal with the dragon issue. He asks Droop to stay in the Old Smithy, and to only open the door when either Vayle or Simon give a command. He goes out with Simon to meet the cultists, and ask Ripper to stay in the peripheral of the town, but keeping an eye on them, just like she was doing in Phandalin.
Vayle knocks on the door, and steps back. A man steps outside. He is wearing black leather armor, a black cape cut to resemble dragon wings, and a black mask covering his face, adorned with mocked up dragon horns. After stepping out and taking a quick look at Vayle and Simon, he speaks. "Good evening, strangers. I would welcome you to Thundertree, but I fear there is little welcome to be found in this dark place. You say you're looking for someone? Unless you came to find us, I'm afraid you may be disappointed. These ruins hold only twig blights and ash zombies." After a dramatic pause. "... and the dragon, of course."
Simon this time did not need a reminder that it was his cue. "Ohh. Greetings my good sir. Yes, the dragon is precisely the reason we are here. We came here to apply to be his worshipers. We were wondering if you are the person that we are to speak to in order to submit our application..."

Favric's piercing gaze scrutinizes Simon and Vayle, his eyes seemingly searching for any signs of deception. As Simon finishes his statement, Favric's lips curl into a faint smile, his features betraying no emotion. With a calm and measured voice, he responds, "You have come to the right place, humble dragon worshippers. I am Favric, leader of this devoted group. Speak your intentions, and let me see if you are worthy."
Simon maintains his composure, his words chosen carefully to maintain the illusion they have crafted. He elaborates on their supposed interest in dragon worship, weaving a tale of fascination and devotion to the might and influence of these magnificent creatures. He mentions their willingness to contribute to the cult's goals and demonstrates an understanding of the cult's beliefs, incorporating references to their teachings and ideals.
Favric listens attentively, his piercing gaze never leaving Simon's face. With an air of quiet authority, he analyzes their words and evaluates their sincerity. To Simon's relief, Favric's expression remains inscrutable, his true thoughts hidden behind a mask of composure. After Simon finishes speaking, a moment of tense silence hangs in the air. The cultists surrounding them observe the exchange, their eyes flickering with curiosity and suspicion.
Then, a subtle shift occurs in Favric's demeanor—a slight nod of approval, barely noticeable to anyone but the keenest of observers. "You have shown promise." Favric says, his voice commanding yet tinged with a hint of intrigue. "But joining our ranks is not a task to be taken lightly. You will need to prove your dedication and loyalty through a series of trials. Succeed, and you will earn your place among us." Vayle, standing beside Simon, nods solemnly, feigning both determination and gratitude. They both understand that this interaction has far-reaching implications, and they must play their roles flawlessly.

The next morning, Vayle and Simon join the cultists outside the farmhouse, preparing for their journey to the tower where the green dragon awaits. Favric steps forward, a small coffer held delicately in his hands, its contents glimmering with an otherworldly allure. With a gracious smile, Favric extends the coffer towards Vayle and Simon. "It would be an honor for you both to carry this tribute to the great green dragon." He says, his voice filled with reverence. "May your offering be received with favor."
Vayle accepts the coffer, feeling the weight of the responsibility it holds. The cool metal of the container contrasts with the warmth of the morning sun, and he senses the power and significance it carries in the eyes of the cultists. As the group sets off towards the tower, their footsteps echo against the remnants of the ruined town. The crumbling structures and overgrown vegetation create an eerie backdrop, adding an air of desolation to their journey. Vayle's keen senses remain alert, scanning their surroundings for any potential threats or hidden dangers.
In the corner of his vision, Vayle catches a glimpse of Ripper, concealed within the periphery of the ruins. The wolf moves with stealth and purpose, her presence a comforting reminder of their loyal companion. Vayle nods subtly to acknowledge Ripper's watchful eye, silently appreciating her presence as an added layer of protection. Simon, walking alongside Vayle, glances at him with a mixture of determination and caution. They both understand the precariousness of their situation, aware that they must tread carefully in the presence of the cultists and the looming presence of the dragon. The cultists march with a mix of reverence and anticipation, their eyes filled with a mixture of fear and awe as they approach the towering structure that serves as the green dragon's lair. The path ahead becomes increasingly treacherous, the air thick with a sense of foreboding.
Vayle and Simon exchange a brief glance, their eyes conveying a shared understanding and resolve. They know that the moment of truth draws near. As they continue their journey towards the tower, their footsteps echo in unison, a steady rhythm that underscores the weight of their mission. The coffer containing the tribute serves as a physical reminder of the dangerous game they are playing, where alliances can shift like the wind and trust is a rare commodity.

At the top of the hill stands a round tower with a cottage attached. Both are in good condition, although half of the tower’s roof is gone. A door leads into the cottage, and several arrow-slit windows are visible in the tower. You can’t help but notice an eerie quiet in the area and a strange, acrid smell in the air.
As Vayle, Simon, and the cultists reach the entrance of the towering dragon's lair, an ominous silence hangs in the air. But before they can take another step forward, a chilling sound cuts through the stillness — the unmistakable unsheathing of swords. Vayle's senses sharpen, his instincts urging him to react, but it is too late. Two blades press coldly against his throat, their steel biting into his skin with a menacing intent. A quick glance confirms that Simon shares the same fate, held captive by cultists who have turned against them.
Favric steps forward with a sly grin curling his lips. The glimmer of betrayal shines in his eyes as he revels in the success of his treacherous plot. "Ahh, the timing couldn't have been more perfect." He declares, his voice dripping with malice. "You have arrived just in time to be offered to the mighty dragon."
Vayle's grip on the small coffer tightens, his mind racing to find a way out of this perilous situation. The weight of the tribute seems to grow heavier in his hands, its significance suddenly twisted into a symbol of their impending doom. Around them, the other cultists watch with a mixture of anticipation and glee, their allegiance firmly shifted to their newfound leader's wicked plans. The once-friendly faces now bear twisted expressions, their loyalty to the dragon and the cult overriding any sense of camaraderie or shared purpose.
Simon, too, stands in a perilous predicament, his magical potential momentarily stifled by the blades against his throat. Yet his eyes burn with a defiant spark, his mind undoubtedly working on a plan even in the face of imminent danger. As Favric revels in his triumph, Vayle's determination sharpens. Though outnumbered and outmaneuvered, he knows that hope still flickers in the darkness. He glances at Ripper, ever the faithful companion.

As Vayle and Simon step through the threshold of the cottage and approach the entrance to the tower, a sense of anticipation fills the air. The towering presence of the ancient structure looms before them, its arrow-slit windows peering out like watchful eyes. Favric, the cultist leader, takes the lead, his authoritative demeanor guiding the way. With a firm voice, he commands Vayle and Simon to enter the tower first, positioning himself as the one who will engage in conversation with the inhabitant that awaits within.
With cautious steps, Vayle and Simon cross the threshold into the dimly lit interior of the tower. The atmosphere is heavy, the air tinged with a sense of ancient power and the foreboding presence of the green dragon, Venonfang. Shadows dance and flicker along the stone walls, as if eager to reveal the secrets concealed within. As the duo ventures deeper into the tower, they soon catch sight of Venonfang. The emerald-scaled creature lounges in regal repose, its eyes glinting with intelligence and a hint of amusement. The dragon's serpentine body coils sinuously, showcasing its formidable size and strength.
Upon seeing Vayle and Simon, Venonfang's reaction is one of curiosity mixed with a touch of skepticism. The dragon's gaze fixes upon them. Venonfang's nostrils flare as it takes in their scent, assessing their presence with a predator's instinct. In this moment, the dragon's reaction is veiled, as if waiting for the unfolding of events and the words that will shape their fate. Its silence carries an aura of power, an unspoken reminder of the perilous nature of their encounter. As Vayle and Simon stand before Venonfang, they can feel the weight of the dragon's scrutiny, its gaze piercing their very souls.

Venonfang's reptilian eyes narrow, their emerald brilliance fixed upon the figure of Favric as he steps forward with his grand declaration. The dragon's gaze sweeps over the cultist, its expression inscrutable, betraying neither surprise nor amusement. As Favric presents Vayle and Simon as sacrificial offerings, the dragon's response is laced with a mixture of disdain and amusement. Venonfang's serpentine lips curl into a sly smile, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth as its gaze shifts from the captives to the open coffer. As the lid of the coffer is raised, revealing the three large diamonds within, a glint of avarice dances in Venonfang's eyes. The dragon's ancient wisdom recognizes the value and rarity of these precious gems, and the significance of the tribute being offered. Venonfang's reaction is a calculated one, a mix of feigned indifference and restrained hunger. The dragon allows a pregnant pause to fill the air, relishing in the anticipation and power it holds over the situation. Its silence becomes a palpable presence, the weight of its decision hanging in the balance.
With a regal air, Venonfang finally breaks its silence, a low rumble emanating from its chest as it speaks with a voice that resonates with both power and ancient wisdom. "You come bearing offerings to quell my appetite, do you? A bold gesture, indeed." The dragon's eyes flicker between the diamonds and the captives, assessing the value of the tributes presented. Venonfang's reaction is not one of immediate acceptance or rejection but rather a calculated maneuver, a test of the cultists' resolve and dedication.
