Three hundred years ago, the Cataclysm brought ruin to the world of Krynn. In a single day, an age of wonders came to an end. Countless innocents died, the face of the world was reshaped, and the gods themselves faded into legend. Through ages of struggle, the peoples of Krynn survived, but the world isn’t what it was. Those nations that remain linger in the shadows of their ancestors’ wonders. Only slowly have they begun to push back centuries of darkness and rediscover how the world has changed.
Then came the Dragon Armies, legions of soldiers devoted to the wicked god Takhisis the Dragon Queen, and the world faces ruin once more. The War of the Lance has begun, and in a conflict between gods and dragons, a wounded world hangs in the balance.
Hello, I'm gonna be starting a Dragonlance campaign here. Looking for 4-6 interested players. Should expect a moderate pace, I'll be able to post multiple times a day, players should at minimum try to get a post a day in.
For Characters
For attribute scores, you can roll two arrays here in the forum. Re-roll 1's once. If neither array is to your liking, you can take point-buy.
Characters will start at level 2.
Playable races will generally be restricted to: Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, and Kender. Some exceptions for Centaur, Minotaur, Goblin, and Hobgoblin. Rare exceptions for other published races.
At 1st and 4th levels, you will gain bonus feats. At 1st level, if you have not selected the Knight of Solamnia or Mage of High Sorcery background, you may take Skilled, Tough, or Skill Expert. At 4th level, the Knight of Solamnia or Mage of High Sorcery background feats get expanded upon, while other backgrounds get a choice of Alert, Divinely Favored, Mobile, Sentinel, or Warcaster.
The beginning motivation for this campaign will be to journey to the town of Vogler to attend a funeral for Ispin Greenshield, an adventurer you once knew and were close with. You'll need to figure out how your character knew Ispin.
If you have questions, leave them here for me in the thread or DM me. I'll be around for most of the rest of the night.
Name: Daryan Seltiyel Race: Half-Elf Class: Hexblade Background: Criminal Backstory: Daryan grew up in the City of Tarsis, first at the Hope Springs orphanage and later in the streets as an urchin, making his living the way he could by sneaking into places he shouldn't and talking his way out again in case of being discovered One day at the grand market he was however caught by the merchant Ispin Greenshield, who instead of sending him off to the city watch let him work as an errand boy, showing the young half-elf another way of life. One night at the local tavern, Daryan heard a fantastic story from a traveler who briefly caught sight of mystic tower in Wayreth forest, and driven by curiosity, young Daryan traveled north to seek out this tower which surely held great wealth and magic. After almost falling into despair over searching the forest but finding nothing, he eventually encountered an old man in white robes. The old man explained that he was Par-Salian, a Mage of High Sorcery and that he knew why Daryan had came to the forest, but once more Daryan was offered an opportunity, serving as the old white-robed wizard's agent to keep him informed on events in the north, lending him a black curved blade named Darkstar that would assist him in his mission. With a new purpose, Daryan traveled north to the city of Kalaman, where he established himself as an adventurer while keeping eyes and ears open for any rumors of war brewing in the east.
Backstory: Magnus grew up in the city of Kalaman as his parents were clerics at the local Temple of Mishakal. He enjoyed listening to the adventuring stories of his parents and one of their companions Ispin Greenshield. He kept those stories close to his heart as he began the trials to enter the Mages of High Sorcery organization and his parents were proud of him as he passed those trials, thankfully and surprisingly he learned that as skilled as he was as a mage, he was equally skilled in the divine magics as well. He has since been sent to Maelgoth to continue his studies. Several years after the death of his parents he learned of the passing of Ispin and decided to honor his parents and travel to the town Vogler and offer his respects.
Tanin Kendrake- human fighter originally from Volger. He grew up in town, playing rough and tumble with the other kids and eventually took up as a rather lackluster apprentice to the local blacksmith. Taking pity on the poor boy, his hopelessness with the forge and his dream of becoming a Knight of Solamnia, he gifted him some equipment and sent him off with his friend Ispen, leading to the start of Tanin's adventuring career. After spending time to the west near Vingaard Keep, Tanin is returning to Volger for the first time in years to bid his friend Ispen goodbye for the last time.
Backstory: Born in the Feywild under the blue moon (a bad omen, as it were) to noble elvish parents, Faylen Keabanise was an outcast from the start. For, she was born without a voicebox, unable to utter a single word. Her parents, utterly ashamed of her, cast her off into the Shadowfell plane, never to be seen again. Growing up in the dark horrors of the Shadowfell, she soon came under the watchful eye of the Raven Queen, who gave her the name of Daewen Pell (Sindarin for Hushed Shadow Maiden). Her melancholic visage and aptitude for hiding in shadows were of great use to the Raven Queen, who often sent her on missions to other planes to watch and wait, looking for the tragedies her Queen wished to collect. Being a mute has its advantages among the Shadar-Kai, as she's learned to hear things her fellow missionaries never assumed were worth paying attention to. It's these nuggets of information that the Raven Queen desires the most, and Daewen has reaped the benefits of being an immortal servant for untold centuries.
Yuan Rumbleflare (Human variant Fighter) taking the second set...
I'd love the feat "Knight of Solamia" - sounds like a perfect match for Yuan, but it's not available - perhaps if you share adventure later on it will be.
Yuan, about 40 y.o. knight was Ispin's friend. Their paths crossed many times for the past twenty or so years. Her dream was to become full and recognised knight one day, just like those from the early days...
She has met Ispin one evening in some obscure tavern in the outskirts of a small city. They got into the fight due to spilled drink but all in all, both were thrown out of the tawern. While they were sitting in the mud, both of them looked at each other and started to laugh. For the next twenty or so years, they met on different occasions - passing each other on the road, meeting in a city... However for the last few years, their paths have never crossed.

Calitynia Frostwind Race: Human (variant) Class: Fighter
Cali met Ispin Greenshield when she was just 6 years old. She was fascinated by his tales of adventure. It also happened to be the same day her mother disappeared. He was kind to her and helped her out. And seeing potential in her, he arranged for her to travel to Sancrist, where she would be cared for and trained. It's been many years, but she has just recently achieved her goal of becoming a Knight of Solamnia.
Calitynia was born in a tiny town in the southern part of Solamnia. Not knowing her father, she grew up with just her mother who worked helping out in a tailor's shop. The family never had much and their lives were rather simple. In the small town, everyone knew Cali, as almost everyone called her. As she got old enough to walk, she would go wherever she felt like while her mother worked long hours. With her distinctive white hair, everyone could spot her in an instant. It was a source of murmured discussion, as it clearly hadn't come from her mother, and didn't match anyone else in town either.
It was on one of these random excursions about town, when she was about 6, that Cali met Ispin Greenshield. As she often did, she had been hanging out with a couple of the town guards when he had come into town. They hinted this adventurer knew all kind of fascinating stories. Which meant of course Cali followed him right into the nearest tavern to listen to his tales. She found her usual spot tucked away against the end of the bar where she could "hide" - although the woman at the bar, most the regulars, and on this day, Ispin Greenshield knew exactly where she was.
The traveling adventurer told stories of voyages across the sea where they fought vile tentacled creatures, saw a giant turtle, and had a seal that could also take the shape of a girl rescue them once from drowning. Cali was fascinated, not moving from her spot for well into the night. He continued with stories of other travels - trees that walked, vast caverns full of crystals, and encounters with bizarrely shaped beings. At some point Cali must have fallen asleep, for she soon realized the tavern was closing and everyone was leaving.
Cali scurried home, slipping in quietly and finding her way to her bed. The single room apartment where she lived with her mother was dark; she assumed her mother must have quickly fallen asleep as soon as she finished work. But in the morning, it was a little odd that her mother wasn't there. She waited for a time, since surely her mother must have just stepped out and would be back. She then thought she must have had to go into work. Cali got herself cleaned up and dressed as best she could then headed out. Her plan had been to go right to the tailor's shop, but the smell of food from the tavern captured her attention first. She again slipped in and quietly went over to ask the young man running the kitchen for a small bite to eat. Hearing a bit of her story, he was quickly swayed to help her out.
Taking her small plate of eggs and sausages to a table in the corner, she quickly started to eat. It so happened the Ipsin was there as well and noted the young girl from the previous night. He startled Cali as he popped over to her table. "Quite the appetite," he said. "Um, yea, well, I missed dinner last night and am a bit late for breakfast. So..." It was a bit of a stretch, as she stolen morsels of mostly sweets during her time listening. But it was true she'd had no proper dinner. "I see. You seemed to enjoy my tales last night! But what brings you here alone this morning?" She replied, "Oh, I wouldn't hang out in a tavern all night! And... uh... I'm just here to eat while my mother works."
Ipsen laughed and shakes his head. "I see. Well, I hope you don't mind my company then." She readily agreed and ate the rest of her food. Ipsen managed to get the rest of the story from Cali and looked a bit disturbed with the news. "Why don't we go check on your mom," he suggested as she finished. "I'll come with you." Cali shrugged, "Sure." She was quite pleased thought that this interesting adventurer was going to accompany her.
Shortly after, Cali's excitement was gone. Her mother wasn't to be found at the tailor's shop. She hadn't been seen, wasn't at home, and it slowly started to seem nobody had really seen her the night before either. Through it all Mr. Greenshield was there with her. In the coming days, the people of the town all jumped in to take care of Cali, and there were numerous discussions of who would care for the girl. In the end though, Ipsin had heard stories about Cali playing at sparring with both the guards and other kids her age. Her tenacity and strength started to convince him that she might have what it took to train to be a Knight of Solamnia.
He had to depart for a bit but promised to come back. Cali waited, left with the care of another woman who had known her mother well. She waited each day for her mother to return, or for the kind adventurer. It was over a month, but finally it was Ipsin that returned. He had made arrangements for her to travel to Sancrist where she would be cared for by those associated with the Knights and start to train towards becoming a Knight one day herself.
Ipsin accompanied her and on the ship that took her to Sancrist. Her life had changed completely. She became dedicated to the ideals of Paladine and the order. And she trained hard to develop her martial skills, finding a preference for fighting with the glaive. It reminded her of a bit of the simple sticks she would use to spar with the town guards when she was young. After many years, she has finally reached her goal of fully becoming a Knight of Solamnia. It is an honor that she has looked forward to since arriving in Sancrist. Calitynia now cares about little more than upholding the honor of that position.
The world has ended, and it’s ending again.
