Omen would grin and lean closer to the dragonborn. "Well I do appreciate the tip... I'll be sure to check out the fairy's house. With any luck I'll uncover some information to prove my worth..." He would add with a wink. "The chance to spend a little more time with you far outweighs any reward the mayor could give.." He would whisper into her ear, his face very close to hers as his arm and shoulder press against her side.
The kenku would then slide his gloved hand towards her belt and attempt to gently slide the runed dagger from its sheath and into his cloak. Rolling with advantage due to Kenku Recall

After attempting (and hopefully succeeding in slipping the dagger into his long black feathered cloak, he would quickly finish his drink before standing up and giving the group a nod. "Well... I best be going. Looks like I have a HOT new lead... and I better act before anyone else disappears." He would say with a beaky grin as he looks towards the dragonborn before nodding to Frank and Jone. He would then turn towards the halfling waitress and wave his hand once more to get her attention. "Please get my beautiful friend Zale and her two friends another round on me." He would say before moving towards her and placing a few coins in her hand. He would then turn and give Kit a quick nod before making his way out the door. It was a nod that Kit was quite familiar with that indicated that he wanted to speak with her once she got a chance to slip away discreetly.
***So would the three people at the table have disadvantage on their perception checks to catch Omen since they have been drinking for a while and may be drunk/tipsy?***
Kit gestures to the Halfling waitress once she's done delivering the drinks to Zale's table.
"Pardon me, miss. Does the owner ever hire entertainers? I sing, and tell stories, and play the thelarr. I'd be willing to perform in exchange for a meal and a place to stay the night."
He is hiding something, and I feel it in my gut, best tell the others. He rejoins his companion at Kit's table. He waits for the waitress to leave before telling Kit "The drow in the corner tells me those looking for the missing have also disappeared. It is clear the kidnappers or a danger to us as well."
A faint flutter of insectile wings informed me that Lulu was indeed hovering somewhere above my right shoulder.
'Anything interesting?'I mentally ask her while reaching into my pocket to retrieve a timble.
I felt Lulu gingerly seating herself on my shoulder. 'Nothing useful for now. The bugbear and the girl tried to persuade some street urchin but no dice. How are things here?'
I dunked the timble in my glass and raised it to my shoulder seemingly to toss it over like some sort of good will charm. The tumble instead vanished, followed by a soft slurping and the pitter-patter of tiny feet. 'This town houses more bounty hunters than I care to shake a stick at. There's also some magic coating the place. Week old at least, maybe older. Enchantment school. Only the bartender, the drow and the dragonborn are exempt. Don't like it. We should look into that.'
'Whatever you say, partner.'
Still felt weird being called that. I decided to switch thoughts and leaned in to hear what Thar was talking about to Bill. Sounded like the act of familiarity might yield different results than what I got.

He waits for the waitress to leave before telling Kit "The drow in the corner tells me those looking for the missing have also disappeared. It is clear the kidnappers or a danger to us as well."
"That might be something we can work with. Use one of us as bait. Can you order me a drink?"
Kit rattles her coin purse.
"Whatever's cheapest. And please tell her I'll be right back."
Kit gives a quick nod of thanks and slips out to find Omen.
*I am assuming got away with his slight of hand but will retcon this of needed... I just happen to have a chance to post now*
Once outside, Omen would slip around beside the inn, finding a place where he could watch the door and those passing by without easily being noticed. When Kit came outside, he would let out a few quick "Ka-Kaw" noises, that Kit knows is a signal from Omen.
assuming she made her way over to him, he would lean in close and whisper in her ear. "So the dragonborn bounty hunter gave me a tip about a fairy that disappeared from a house just a couple days ago. I think that might be a good place to start looking for clues..." He would then pause and quickly glance around. he would then lean in a bit closer still. "What kind of weapons do you have on you... Are you ready for a fight? Do you have anything you can easily conceal of needed?" He would then open his cloak and slowly reveal the rune covered dagger to Kit, making sure that no one else can see.
Kit nods at the suggestion to search the fairy's house and whispers back, "Amery got something from the Drow. It seems like the bounty hunters are being targeted. Once we have a better idea of what we're up against we may be able to set a trap."
Bill pats Thar's arm since his own are to short to reach the bugbear's shoulder. "Thank you, and I'm sorry to hear of your father as well. I wasn't aware of his disappearance, the last I heard of him he was leaving town. He'd been staying here, but he'd packed up all his belongings. Are you certain that he's missing? Perhaps his letters were lost in transit?" He sighs, "Millain was one of the first to go missing. She vanished almost a year ago. Other than the previous disappearances, there hadn't been anything suspicious going on. She just went out back one night to get some cut wood for the fire and didn't return. I went out to check on her since she was taking a while, and she was just gone. Some of the wood was on the ground, like either someone knocked it off the stack or it was dropped." He shakes his head. "I can't remember much else. If you want to speak with someone over a recent disappearance, you should go see Yarrow. Not sure if either of you'd remember William, but he was the town's blacksmith. He went missing about two weeks ago. Yarrow was his apprentice. The most recent disappearance was Angila, she was an old fairy who lived close to the woods. She went missing two days ago, and her remaining family skipped town shortly after."
After setting the two drinks down in front of Zale and Omen, the halfling scurries over to Kit. "Oh that is wonderful dear! A little music would certainly brighten up the mood around here. I can't guarantee that Bill can give much for free, but I'll see what he says. We used to hire entertainers all the time, but with the recent happenings...well...money's been a bit tight. I'm sure he'll at least give you a room though. Not many travelers coming through these days." With that, she nods and skips off to talk to Bill.
When Omen leans in close, this seems to catch the dragonborn a little off guard but she recovers quickly. Though not quickly enough to notice the kenku swiping her dagger. When he backs away, she leans forward on the table, placing her chin in her hand a crooked grin spreads across her face. "You are quite the sweet talker ain't ye. Hmmhmm." When Omen rises, preparing to set out on the task she gave him while still speaking smoothly, she grabs her mug she raises it towards the kenku. "Heheh, You be speakin me language my friend! Take the second road to the right off Main Street. Follow it all the way down. Here's to our budding business relationship." She nods, still grinning then winks and takes a long swig from her drink.
Without waiting for the waitress to return, Kit chases after Omen and the two start discussing possible plans of action. It's still light outside, but the sun is starting to hang low in the horizon. If anyone wants to do any investigating before dark, they best get a move on.
"Best not to worry too much about where I got it... Do you need it? It's enchanted " The kenku would ask with a look of concern. "If you want it, it is yours... I would just suggest that you keep it hidden. Don't let anyone see it unless it's already sticking out of their gut. I got a feeling that this case is going to be harder than any we've taken on before. You got a wife back home and you're the closest thing to family I got." Omen would whisper while still leaning in close to Kit.
"I appreciate the gesture but I don't think I can accept that, and I certainly don't want you know how you got it. Considering who we're traveling with, you're playing an awfully dangerous game. I'm not convinced that if Avery gets wind of you going off the straight and narrow he wouldn't turn you in the minute we solve this thing and keep the whole reward for himself."
Her face softens a bit and she reaches out to smooth an errant feather on the Kenku's head.
"You're my family too. Don't make this more dangerous than it needs to be."
"I think I might be able to perform at the inn. That should give you a chance to talk to some more of the locals, or provide a distraction if you need one."
Thar looks concerned about the news of his father and then he listens to Bill's report
"Thanks for the information on my father. I'll look into it, but first let's see if we can find the source of this dissapearances. Thanks for the tips my friend. I know it's been too long but... do not give up hope ok?. Now I do think that me and my companions will need a room to stay. Do you have rooms for all of us? " he asks to Bill.
Omen would let out a small sigh before sliding the dagger back into a hidden pocket inside his long back cloak. "We can't solve the case if we're dead... Sometimes the straight and narrow path doesn't lead to where we need it to go." He would add with a grin. Kit wasn't sure if he was trying to justify his actions to her or himself before he twisted his neck and changed the subject. "You can head back inside, keep collecting more information if you like..." He would then glance at the sun in the sky and adjust his hat. "We are running out of daylight. If you get the chance you can see if the others want to check out the old Fairy's house before dark. I'll keep an eye open out here for now."
"You're hedging. Given the circumstances I'd rather stay out here with you. But if you need me in there..."
"We could check out the Fairy's house tonight, but I might miss my chance to perform. I doubt the locals will be willing to come out after dark. So it looks like we have two options. Stay in town and do some investigating here or rally the others and check out the hut. It's your call."
"Why don't you see if the others check out the hut. maybe write can do that and be back before it is too late.. then maybe you can put on a performance yet before it is time to turn in for the night." Omen would say with a nod before sliding back into the shadows a bit, watching the folks on the street.
Amery looks around the tavern and then nods in affirmation "Let's check the house. Perhaps there are still some clues left behind. Anyway, my lead just went upstairs back to his room'"
He would then leave the Tavern and meet up with Omen. "I am with you this night. Let's hope luck is on our side."
The kenku would tip his hat to Amery and give him a small nod once outside. "You and I working together... it still doesn't feel right." He would say with a wink. "Who needs luck... I'm sure if there are any clues to be found we'll find them..."
"Of course son." Bill says, "And yes, there's plenty of room for all of you here. A few of you may need to share though. There are three rooms open upstairs. You can take your pick. One of them has four beds, and the other two have two each."After the bugbear specifies which rooms, Bill pulls two keys from under the counter and pushes them towards him. "No need to pay for rooms. So long as you buy your food and drink, you can stay as long as you wish."
With that, the party leaves the Stonedog with Angila's house as their destination. Following the directions Zale provided, Omen leads the group down a narrow side road leading strait towards the forest. The farther towards the edge of town you get, the more and more abandoned buildings you see. There is a solid block along the outskirts that is completely uninhabited. They continue for about a mile, before finally reaching the end of the road.
The small house sits just a few feet away from the tree line, leaving it just inside the shadow of the forest. As you approach, you begin to notice how severely overgrown everything around it seems to be. Perhaps in her sickness she let the garden get a bit out of control? Moving closer, this thought vanishes from your mind as you see exactly what kind of vegetation is there, and how far it goes. Coiling, thorny vines have pulled down sections of the picket fence surrounding the abode and have made their way around the building’s walls. A shrub that looks to be a rose has nearly engulfed the patio and part of the roof. The front door stands open, hanging from one hinge. Several vines have made their way into the open doorway. Overall, the house looks as if it has been abandoned for far longer than just two days.
Kalgren is picking up a lot of magic in the area. It's hard to discern exactly which school a lot of it's from, but there's definitely Enchantment and Conjuring here. He's not entirely sure, but there seems to be a faint tinge of Necromancy as well.
"Sure, thanks Bill. Here you are and thanks for the rooms. " he says and hands over 5 gold pieces to the innkeeper. Back with the others he shares the information and gives one key to Kit. "we share the other one"he says to the rest of the party. " hope you don't snore"he says to Omen.
Once they reach the former fairy house he looks amazed.
"Woah. That doesn't feel like a couple of days, even a couple of months of neglecting the garden... think that the rest of the family made sure that no one disturbed their place while they were gone? But why? If they were leaving for good why care if someone enters the place? " Thar approaches and carefully touches one of the vines, trying not to pierce himself with any thorn. "this looks sturdy..."he comments.

Kit examines the key with an almost embarrassed look on her face. She tries to remember the last time she had a room to herself. When it comes to her, it hits harder than she expected.
"Thank you, Thar. That's very generous. Are you sure? If there's separate beds I don't mind sharing. I know I can trust you and Omen to be gentlemen."
