The awkward silence from the rest of those gathered is unsettling to the young wizard but Nigel forges on with a reply to Snickerz. "I say, that is an excellent suggestion! Let us go speak to them while our new companions here continue to decide what, if any, libations lie in their future." Nigel stands and moves around the tables. A couple of whisper quite flaps of the wing and Archibald is on his shoulder. He pauses to see if the Tabaxi is with him.

Snickerz nods to Nigel and to the relief of those around him, quickly stores his small wooden Lute in his backpack. He follows closely behind Nigel as they approach the bar area in an attempt to go as unnoticed as possible. Stealth: 16

Nigel approaches the group of river kin congregated on the other side of the room. "Excuse me my good people. Perhaps you're willing to speak to us in exchange for another round?"
Following Nigel's lead Snickerz continues towards the bar area. There is too much noise to try to listen to any one conversation, and the only thing he is readily noticing are the stares of everyone he is passing by. Even Nigel's owl is giving him a glare. He focuses on just staying with Nigel as they make they way to the bar. He sighs in frustration and attempts to maintain a calm mind as he was taught at the Mr'went Qao enclave. His frustration gives way to a chuckle, because sometimes you just have to laugh off your bad luck. I hope Nigel fares better, he thinks to himself.
The small knot by the bar mills about uncertainly as you approach, but finally decides to relent and make room for you to join them. A riverkin woman nearly as tough and sinewy-looking as the bartender turns to respond to Nigel as he and his tabaxi companion find more or less clean stools and settle in. "Got no problem with that, stranger. You want to buy us drinks, ye can dance nekkid on the tables if you want to. Just have your friend keep his lute quiet till Aurmy forgets about it. She's a right ***** tonight, but I can't blame 'er with these lazy sods t..." She breaks off with a smirk as the dwarf shoots her a suspicious glare in passing behind the bar on his way back from the loo.
Now that you are among them, you see that the riverkins' bodies kept you from seeing that there are also some of the smaller folk mixed in among their taller comrades. In addition to the woman who spoke to Nigel and five or six other riverkin of both sexes, there are three male halflings, a a forest gnome man and woman who seem to be a couple, and two kender. The taller of these, a redhead who looks young enough to be just out of her girlhood except for her eyes, looks over at you with sudden interest. The pendant around her neck bobs and sways as she glances curiously over to take in every detail. It might be just a trick of the flickering shadows, but you almost think at times that something in particular about you is catching her attention as she inspects you. Next moment, you're not sure again. "Could we get another round here please!" Nigel calls out. Then to those gathered he continues, "My associates and I are looking to procure transportation to Axbleford. I was hoping you might know of someone who could facilitate this."
Feeling quite unappreciated regarding his Lute play Snickerz shrinks his small, diminutive frame into a hunch of disappointment. He thinks to himself, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, oh meeeeooow, please don't let me be misunderstood.
Snickerz welcomes the curiosity of the Kender and responds in like manner. He has never seen folk like these before and wants to take in as much about them as he can. One at a time he will sniff towards each individual with his pink nose in the air, learning their scent. His neck reaches out towards the curious Kender but he does not move closer unless there seems to be a mutual agreement to do so. He will sniff her face, rubbing noses a little and then her cheek and mouth. If allowed to continue he will also sniff at the pendant and then cock his head in a questioning way. Investigation: 21
The grumpy dwarf grudgingly brings another round of drinks after his overworked riverkin colleague favors him with an icy stare. Meanwhile an odd dance of subtleties is developing between Snickerz and the curious kender, who does not seem to object to his scrutiny at all... until he tries to see the pendant.

Sensing the kender's change in posture to his insniffigation, Snickerz pulls his nose away and seems disinterested. He turns his head away from her and looks upon the others. This should give her time to decide if they are still on sniffing terms or not. Snickerz is still very much focused on her while appearing not to be.
When the drinks arrive, Nigel addresses the group again, "Yes! There! Now, who may I inquire with about passage? He looks about at each one of the group letting a stern but smug look fall on each. "We are on a bit of time frame here so we would like to leave in the morning. Can you be of assistance or did I waste my coin and my time?
The group of riverkin initially seem very interested. While this remains the case after, a distinct coolness falls when Nigel mentions time frames. "We're all professionals here, we can meet any time frame you care to name ... if we decide to take you on. And some of us measure that by how high we see a stiff neck poking somebody's nose in the air. Maybe you'd better get down to business and tell us exactly where you need to go and what the timeframe is. And what you're offering."

Snickerz jaw drops for a moment as he hears Nigel's offer. He has nowhere near that much coin to contribute but will see what the response to the offer is. He will quietly introduce himself with a smile to the Kender. In a hushed voice he says, "My name is Snickerz. What's your name?" He will then begin licking his paw and cleaning his ears and face. He will attempt to befriend the Kender with small talk. "Do you take boat rides to Axbleford often? How long do they take? Are they dangerous? Will I get wet?"
The riverkin woman considers a while, then nods. "That's adequate. Two hours after sunup, be at the second quay east of the tanner's shop. We don't mind people chippin' in to the boat songs, if your friend wants to try again, but of course we have to keep the rhythm so we'll need to batten down on any sour notes pretty quick and sharp. Nothin' personal then, just the needs of the boat." Meantime the kender seems to be quickly overcoming her wariness of Snickerz, but her replies are ... perhaps not the most helpful in the world. "Just after Sun up it is. Till then." says Nigel with a slight bow before spinning on his heals and addressing those companions still available. "We have secured transportation for 3gp apiece. We shall meet at the second quay past the tanners shop 2 hours after sunrise. I shall take my leave of you until tomorrow." With that Nigel bows to the group and retreats to his previously arranged sleeping situation.
Snickerz nods to Nigel and the others in the group with an uncomfortable looking smile. How in the Feywild is he going to pay for his share of the passage. He will continue making friends with the Kender. She is interesting and there is something quirky about her, but there may be a deeper message in her seemingly odd answers. He was especially interested in "Her boat hath a leak...and she must not speak." Is this a warning of the condition of their boat or of some ill fated local legend? Regardless he will attempt to be friendly and see if she might be open to sharing her room for the night. If not, he will ask if she knows of a safe place to stay for free. Snickerz is short on coin at the moment.
Snickers will also offer to help the person in charge of the bar. It seems like they could use an extra pair of hands. Perhaps he can run food and drinks to tables or help in another way to earn a little coin.
The moment Snickerz offers to help, the crabbed looks the riverkin bartender had been bestowing upon him since the lute incident are miraculously sweetened. "You want to actually do something to earn your coin, not charge for your rugged good looks like old stone-face over there? You're hired! Start out by seein' if anybody else from your corner wants anything, and then come find out from me where to get it. I'll pay you ... mmm ... five silver an hour, and you can keep any tips." Meanwhile, the kender appears completely fascinated with him, and follows him silently watching all he does as he turns to execute his first commission.
