Karin can see Thuribula preparing the same hand gestures and magic words though behind them before was a prayer of the Flame Keeper. She seemed nervous until the spell was cast on herself. Confusion... this spell Sinak had cast on himself? She gripped her hand and smiled at the newfound energy for waiting tables. She had given Thuribula a soft smile she was ready to respond to Sinak but first..
"That's a fancy trick, smart too showing me exactly what he was doing with the same incantation. You gotta be careful around those who don't know."
She looks to both Sinak and Thuribula now.
"This little lady may be the reason I don't bar mageborn from here truth be told. Helping creating a bridge of understanding, for you're sake. It's like when the church created the edicts.. the academy responded with arrogance rather than thanking them for protection since the mage hunting ended due to the Elryia and the Silver Order. As for best foot forward and steep prices.. I don't recommend casting that spell in conversation it won't help create a good impression on someone believe me. Even if it only helps you be more persuasive the intent is the same. Also... as for steep love, you seen food prices here? Emberwood ain't easy to survive in I could charge up to 10 gold and people would come. The Red Lion Hotel charges 25 a night gods above. Eren is kind but his prices are high, everyone is in Emberwood we live in a famine caused by Delirium. We rely on outside trade you could see the dead land coming from leagues and I know Eren must have explained the water being foul. It's expensive for me to rent this land buy more food."
She looks to Sinak a bit dumbfounded for the moment.
"Most adventurers end up heading back before finding riches, it ain't easy to survive here lad. I don't mind the simple minded ones though usually they come a bit kinder... As for you lady Flame Keeper I understand yer oath I do. For that spell and peace of mind.. and for keeping this one on watch.. Tonight can be free for you only. Tomorrow though you or someone else will have to pay for you're food and room is that fair?"
Than she looks to Fazil as he takes his hood off in the middle of the tavern. Dumb founded more so by his appearance and his actions the entire Tavern looking his way now Dabberts attempt to shoo them off with his last line before while worked on a few isn't going to do much now in this moment.
"I thought mageborn were smart... Well bugger me that I suppose. I offered you to show me.. IN PRIVATE good ser. If you're dead by assassins don't haunt us. Also... what is going on? Nevermind I don't wanna know. I just hope you're two mageborn find common sense before Emberwood or Drakkenheim eats ya up. I hate to see naive souls perish for nothing."
Karin seems worried but the entire Tavern is on edge. Except for this Nathan Willowdrake he's got a close eye on Sinak and Fazil. Mumbling something but... it doesn't appear to be in a spiteful tone. Karin looked to Maggwyn's antics towards Fazil before laughing out loud.
"Aww, ain't that... Sweet...? They say Tieflings have odd taste! I live next to horrifying monsters what's two more brain magic addled mageborn I suppose."
While Karin's hostilty seems calmed by Thuribula and Maggwyn both the tavern seems anything if but.. Except for Auron and his party they oddly seem to be placing bets and laughing at mostly Sinak and Fazil's own actions not from anger but it seems they've never seen something so absurd. Charlotte is nudging them trying to get them to be quieter and kinder while Nathan seems to be engaging in the antics none at all.
OOC Anyone can roll history on what Karin's referring for further information a hint here is that Karin doesn't recall the ENTIRE story.
Also sorry if I forgot someone or something.
I think we did lose Fenton @~@ But sorry if I forgot because got a last second Errand in mid post so had to rush it >~< so point out any mistakes I make for sure!
Sinak bows to Karin, standing and saying to her very plainly, “I see. Good day, ma’am.” He looks at Fenton with a smile, gives a mock salute with his finger to Dabbert and Maggwyn, finally turning back to Karin to say, “I can see that I'm not wanted here and certainly do not feel welcome. I can find my own way, thank you.” Sinak walks to the door and steps out to leave, never heard from again.
OOC If the party wants to time skip to the room after paying for a room (Aside for Thuribula this time.) they can talk in the room alone as per Dabberts request.
OOC If the party wants to time skip to the room after paying for a room (Aside for Thuribula this time.) they can talk in the room alone as per Dabberts request.
The party enjoys a nice meal in the room and are able to get a few winks of sleep through the night despite all the recent happenings. Now in the morning before heading for breakfast or whatever they wish to do. They have a chance to converse of a plan here in the room much to Dabberts desire before and Maggwyn seemed to want to check up on him and the others.
Thuribula doesn't say anything as Sinak gets up from the table and departs, casting her eyes downward. Inwardly, she feels relieved. It is doubtful we could have worked together... hopefully he will find what he's looking for.
Fazil's sudden revelation of his face takes her attention, however, and she is startled at the appearance of his eyes. He is strongly afflicted. Perhaps it is only this strange appearance that makes him hide, not any personal status that might put him in danger, that is, from assasins or such like, as Karin here fears...Thuribula makes no comment, but watches him with concern until the mage pulls his hood back up.
She gratefully accepts Karin's offer of a meal and lodging, eating her fill along with the others, and retiring to whatever quarters the kind innkeeper provides her. No one is in the mood to talk much more during the meal, and Thuribula knows, she will be much better equipped after a good night's rest to seriously consider the decisions that must be made. Once in the room, she lights a candle says her evening prayers before removing her armor and weapons, though nothing else of what she wears, and climbing into bed. She is up early the next morning and kneels to light the candle again. Only after she has completed her meditation and her morning prayers to the Sacred Flame does she venture forth from her room to find the others, the lit candle still held in her hand.
If they bought their own rooms they can rest in them.
I'd say Thuribula for the one night can have her own room as Karin said she would. But yes for every room it's 2 gold. I mostly wrote it the way I had as a way for them to group up before bed or meeting up in the morning to have a party talk chance before setting off ^^
Fazil studied his spellbook along with all its changes upon having its mind awaken, but he made sure not to wake it up fully. Not in public with everyone so jumpy with him being a Mageborn. Nonetheless, he waits for the rest of everyone at the table.
OOC Fazil could wake it up in their private cot with the party before heading to the table if he wishes or not up to him of course.
(OOC: Fazil likes to be out in the open rather than stay in the room alone since who knows what he might experience from having to stay in there alone too long. Maybe in the future, when he is at a higher level, he would. But, yeah, he is at the table now, which makes more sense with what he had done yesterday before everyone hit the beds.)
OOC I was going to wait for the party to have that tactical talk that Dabbert had spoke of but I can simply post continuing on ahead if you all wish as well.
Dabbert is in the main hall of the inn the following morning, having commandeered the same table in the back corner of the room and mean mugged everyone who dared stay too close to him. He has a mug of hot coffee in front of him and is picking at a bowl of something that was probably fruit two days ago, trying to start his day off right.
Or something.
As the others file in, Dabbert chews and rolls his thoughts around at the same time, thinking his words over very carefully. He keeps a lookout for anyone listening in, but by this point he believes it doesn't matter.
"No uh...Sinak or Fenton." He says, a little bitterness in his voice. "Figured that would be the case. Not loving the reduction of our numbers but sometimes you soldier on and see what happens."
He takes a drink and then runs his fingers through his hair.
"This isn't a popular plan I know, but I think it's our best option to get our feet moving and make a difference here." He says, continuing, trying to seize the initiative that was robbed of him the following evening by all manner of problematic circumstances. "There's a delirium cache that is rumored to exist somewhere inside the city. I have a vague location, provided to me by Tobias Crowe. Apparently it has drawn a lot of attention from other adventurers who wish to capitalize off its existence. I want to go after it. I uh...know this isn't the most popular thing I could probably say, and we all have different feelings about delirium, but I want to make my stance on this clear. The delirium, and what it has done to Drakkenheim, is a problem. We aren't going to be able to do anything to change things if we don't make some radical attempts to use some of these things to our advantage. We barely have enough coin between us to stay comfortable in Emberwood for the next couple of weeks. After that, then what?
I say we go for the delirium. I think it's our best chance at getting our footing here. I know that's not a popular opinion, but I'm not hearing any better ideas at the moment. So what will it be?"
He sits back, taking another drink of his coffee and waiting for his companions to weigh in.
Maggwyn grabs a chair spins it around and takes a seat, leaning her arms on the top of the back of the chair. Taking a sip of her own coffee she responds, "Not popular? Sure it is. I've heard there is a race to find it. So if we're going to do this, we best get moving." She looks to Thuribula and Fazil, "You two in?"
As Dabbert gives a mean mug to whoever may look his way it seems that.. Without Sinak he's catching far less looks and people seem less interested. If anything Fazil is catching more glances and looks and if Dabbert sits beside him his expression may stave a few off but in no way would it stop all onlookers. Though Auron and his party seem eager to leave the tavern this morn and to get Drakkenheim hardly saying nary a word unless stopped or prompted by anyone in the party. With one exception.. Nathan Willowdrake the quite man holding a book to his side leaves a note on the table in front of Fazil it would seem. Dabbert with that frame of mind.. can probably discern himself that's exactly what Auron and the others are heading for is that same said Delrium.
On a smaller note their member Charlotte Everdeen does offer them a smile and a playful little wave as they begin to disembark.
OOC Is that just a re flavored ration that Dabbert is using instead of buying the meals and drink?
Maggwyn grabs a chair spins it around and takes a seat, leaning her arms on the top of the back of the chair. Taking a sip of her own coffee she responds, "Not popular? Sure it is. I've heard there is a race to find it. So if we're going to do this, we best get moving." She looks to Thuribula and Fazil, "You two in?"
Fazil stays quiet for a few seconds before slowly nodding, "Yeah, I'm in."
Thuribula sits down at the table with the others, dressed and girded for the day. She gives a smile and a wave to Auron, Nathan and Charlotte as the other group departs. Then she turns to greet her companions. "Good morning, Dabbert, Maggwyn, Fazil. How ironic that my companions who remain are the ones who came later, while the ones I traveled with longest have departed. But all things change beyond our ken for a greater purpose." She listens quietly to Dabbert's pitch about what he wants to do. Her stomach twists a little seeing the coffee and bowl of dried fruit---not because she's hungry; she ate well last night thanks to Karin's generous charity, but in recognition that, as always, she has no idea where her next meal will come from, and this will be especially true in the ruins. The Flame will provide.
"If there's a race for this delerium, I would foresee a lot of incaution, rivalry, and perhaps even bloodshed." Thuribula casts a worried glance after the group that has just departed. "Whatever we would hope to gain from a delerium find, to risk ourselves needlessly wouldn't be wise, when I assume that each of us is of sufficient age to have a trade to ply, should we really be in need of support. I myself have taken a vow of poverty, as a Flamekeeper, and so of course my trade is not one that is compensated by coin, but involves ministering to the basic and spiritual needs of all people that I come across."
The Flamekeeper sighs. "I have been given a Divine charism, and I have yet to discover what purpose the Sacred Flame wishes me to wield it for. Yet it was granted in prayer at Saint Arwenna's in the company of paladins of the Silver Order. I have my misgivings about the correct path being to try and physically destroy delerium, which is what they seem to believe is the best course. To me, that does not seem an effective solution to the very strange and esoteric problem that faces our world now. Putting ourselves in with the raiders and looters in Drakkenheim, scrambling for shards of a dangerous purple crystal, seems a very difficult way to begin. Yet I extend to both of you the invitation I was given---to join the Silver Order, one must present themselves to the paladins and destroy a piece of delerium in front of them. It's a bit of a display, I think, and not much in keeping with the faith of the heart, but for whatever reason, that is their requirement. Does it prove one's faith that delerium is evil? I am not sure. However, the resources and support of a powerful knightly order from Elyria would be helpful to anyone setting out into the ruins, and as so long as either of your purposes is not to gain or profit from delerium, I think there may be room in the Order for quests of another sort than just destroying it. Fenton, though I regret that he has disappeared, for I think the Flame has a purpose for him too, was very adamant about finding the truth about the meteor and what has happened here. Many see an opportunity for money or power in this deadly substance, but we must see beyond that."
Thuribula leans back in her chair and smiles. "The short version of my story is that, because of my interest in the Silver Order and what they have asked me to do to prove my faith, whatever I think of such a test, that is a reason for me to acquire at least a small amount of delerium. I am not interested in money, but I could procure a shard for this purpose. However, I will not do it by brigandry, nor by deception or manipulation of any sort. I would not threaten the lives or well-being of any who might be competing with us for a shard of delerium. My primary purpose would be to succor the needs of any whom I encounter on this quest, even if that means the loss of a shard for myself. The Sacred Flame will provide, I have no doubt about that. There is no need to engage in questionable behavior. With that restriction in place, and I would like to know if such a tactic is amenable to each of you, I would be happy to help you any way that I can. It is highly likely that we will encounter and discover much more than we expect or imagine once we step into the ruins, and we may have nothing at all to fall back on except principles. Don't forget Rikard... we must be very careful, of ourselves, of our own souls, and of the peril of everyone in that place."
