We can get a DM ruling, but I think "roaming along and watching for things out of the ordinary" is Perception, which I figured would help me spot suspicious tiles in the floor that might be pressure plates, and "seeing if the lock/chest/item is trapped" is Investigation.
If it's decided Investigation is what we need, I'll give my spot at the front of the line to someone else. I'm also not even remotely stealthy in my armor, so that could be another reason for someone else to go first.
I mean Toadstool has decent investigation and perception, but we've already got to know that he is kind of a klutz, so will see. Looking at char sheets the best one to send forward would be Balen, but he couldn't.... (OOC intimidation and/or persuasion)
Anyway - If everyone else chickens out, I have decent modifiers and relentless endurance if shit hits the fan.

Hello! Ahhhh Sorry! I am here! I will update in a bit. Just got home from classes (and struggling not to lose my scholarships!). I had to go help out at the school newspaper.
We can wait a bit, or we can roll with me. I'm pretty sure it's Perception to notice a trap as you're moving, and Investigation to see if a certain thing, like a lock or other mechanism, contains a trap. At least that's how I run it in my games. From Phandelver, for example:
Snare. About 10 minutes after heading down the trail, a party on the path encounters a hidden snare. If the characters are searching for traps, the character in the lead spots the trap automatically if his or her passive Wisdom (Perception) score is 12 or higher. Otherwise, the character must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom (Perception) check to notice the trap.

I've always thought it was Perception in 5e, but I also generally think it's up to the DM, ultimately, on what they think is most appropriate.
@Bird94, He can, and Yaudara's use of divine sense reveals that there are no celestials, fiends, or undead creatures within range and nothing in this hallway has been consecrated or desecrated.
Hey everyone, I'm caught up. Sorry I'm the slowest to respond. I'm trying to keep up, and do respond at least once a day, but I think others are a bit faster than I am (which is fair).
Hopefully no one dislikes Faen's kind of both overly-adventurous but also zoned-out nature. He's kind of based on how I can be sometimes, in the sense that I can be super excitable but also easily distracted (for reference, I'm on the spectrum, so some of my terminology comes from that, too).
Also, hopefully no one feels like I'm not contributing. Feel free to tell me if you want me to change how I'm playing or anything. This is my first PbP game, my first campaign in some time, and I'm playing a type of character I've not played before.
No worries. This is actually going fast for a PbF game, and it's OK foe us to act weird, especially at the start. Being a new holy warrior, Yaudara's fixing to judge the heck out of all of you. 😁

Hey! Sorry if I'm overstepping here, but there's no need to apologize for that! We're in Play by Post land so everything happens at its own pace. And it's definitely okay if you can only respond once a day. You could always catch up which you did quite well!
Honestly I think Faen's pretty neat-o and I like him. I feel like the way you portray him is very genuine and honest. I'm very much into roleplays where the characters feel alive, and you definitely do it well. In general I think everyone's character is really cool!!! Just a disclaimer: None of Balen's thoughts reflect my own. Sorry if I ever go overboard. He's a mess (and I'm very much a mess too have you seen my handwriting? 'like yasss king. it is so bad'), but I like y'all and you guys' characters.
Same here. This is my first PbP, but you're doing well from what I've seen so far *thumbs up*

I didn't assume Balen's thoughts were your own, though I do love how much of a mess he is. It's clear that you're super into your character, and that makes him great in the game. He's the chaos that balances the lawful characters in the party lol.
Thanks for the reassurance too, btw. You're doing great as well.

Well, hopefully his usefulness will prove to outweigh his eccentricities.
Now I'm just imagining Ichep judging my character with the Scales of Anubis. Gotta hope Faen doesn't get thrown to Ammit.

Aw thank you!!! Haha yes I do love messy characters. Fiendin' for 'em sillies~ Balen's truly the yang to your guys' yin. For a guy who's supposed o sound like Jerry Seinfeld he's a real Kramer *laugh track plays*
And no problem! You deserve it!

Someone should take the lead on trap investigation
I've got +3 to Perception, but if someone's got higher than that, they can take the lead.
Actively looking for traps is investigation I think

Can Yaudara use his Divine Sense to tell anything about the sword before we pick it up?
"Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell."

Plus, Faen's zoning out is an easy explanation for a slow response lol
