The two lady giants surrender; you have killed the hill giant chief and his wife. They tell yo that the chief had been hoping for reinforcements from the frost giants and had been maintaining discipline by brutally suppressing those who wanted to flee.
"Flee while you can, but first, tell us what the drow are planning." Fah'lin says pointing his staff at the women. "And it wouldnt hurt to tell me where the chief's chambers were, and where he kept his most prized possessions."

"I have no knowledge of the drow, I am a cook. The chief sent me and my sisters against you to die, but hopefully slow you down." She points to the chief's quarters "He has a vault somewhere in the dungeon beneath the steading." She tells you where to find the stairs.
While you have all been standing around twiddling your thumbs Arya has searched the chiefs quarters "I think most of it was in the stuff we got from those messenger giants but they missed this." She holds up an impressive ruby (500gp).
Fah’lin searches around until he finds the stairs to the underground level of the steading. Coming down the stairs you are met by the ugliest giant you could possibly imagine. With him are two white apes a huge cave bear and an even huge-er polar bear. Behind him are a large number of adolescent and female giants. They look ready to sell there lives dearly... or run screaming in terror. It’s hard to tell.
Fah'lin seeks guidance from his patron as he points again, more forcefully. (Persuasion: (1)26)
Your eriodite argument (or maybe the dead bodies of the chief and his wife) has won the day.
Later today I’ll list all the interesting things here but for the moment there is a prisoner in the dungeon. Prince Laelran of the royal elven house Goldenrod a ranger.
As already stated - Prince Laelran of the royal elven house Goldenrod a ranger. A human merchant (stinking rich and grateful) A human commoner who is an expert in siege warfare who used to be a castle steward (Arya takes him into service in her new identity as Lady Arya D'ath) A prize to whoever recognises that name without googling it.
Fah'lin asks the people individually where they are from and how they ended up in this situation. He asks the prince in particular if he has any insight into the motives of the Giants, their inter-giant cooperation, and their affilition with the drow.
He also invites the group back to the camp and loads them with as much food and supplies as they can carry.
Fah'lin tries to open the Chain Gate once the prisoners are situated.

(Is this a subterranean entrance?)
The two humans where travelling in a caravan that was attacked by a giant raiding party. The elf had been tracking drow moving through elf territory and his patrol was ambushed. He was the only survivor.
the entry to this underground area is through the steading.
working out how the chain gate works requires a very good arcana check.
Thar would welcome the chance to check out his arcana knowledge on the chain gate, especially if he gets a little help from his friends (some guidance and bardic inspiration perhaps). Don't suppose anyone has Enhance Ability.
He ponders the chain gate for some time - Arcana: 27 Guidance: 4 Bardic Inspiration: 3
I'm up at the crack of dawn tomorrow and out running errands all day so probably no posting.

"Hmm, we'll need to search the whole place for more leads." Fah'lin says "These fools didn't come out here out of their own curiosity."

This sounds like you are trying to persuade them to leave without a fight. (Or perhaps Aeliarin who is more charismatic.)
Gijigume waits for somebody more charismatic to speak, holding Leaf away from the giants.
