You know that in the PHB (Player's Hand Book) it says that you should choose two personality traits. I find that this is very often overlooked by players and DMs alike, but it is okay I did at first too.
Sorry, I guess I spent so long working on it that I didn't see when you posted that you had four. I promise I'm normally better at reading stuff. No sweat if you don't want to deal with five players, but I'd enjoy joining you. I'd also be cool if you wanted to keep me in reserve on the off chance someone drops.
My character information - won't be all of it tonight, about time for bed and I still can't figure out how to single instead of double space between returns. HA
Sent a PM to the DM for some help with what deity might work best for this campaign and my setup and barebones of my backstory.
Character:
Portia Starflower – Life Cleric, Alcolyte, Half Elf
Alcolyte Features – Shelter of the Faithful – free healing and car for myself and my friends
- modest lifestyle support for myself only
Equipment – Explorer’s Pack, prayer book, 5 sticks of incense, vestments, common clothes, pouch with 15gp
Background
Alcolyte Background
Personality: 1) I see omens in every event and action. The gods try to talk to us, we just need to listen. 2) Nothing can shake my positive attitude.
Ideal: Aspiration - I seek to prove myself worthy of my god’s favor by matching my actions against his or her teachings.
Bond: I owe my life to the priest who took me in when my parents died
Flaw: I am inflexible in my thinking.
Backstory:
Portia’s mother had become pregnant with her, but had told no one how it had occurred. There were many attempts by people to find out without success. Once she was born, it was very obvious the father was an elf. This only narrowed down speculation a tiny bit.
Portia never met her father and has no desire to solve the mystery that is now twenty-one years in the past. Her mother, when not feeling well, had gone to the Song of the Morning in hopes to extend her life long enough for Portia or at least leave her in good care when she died. Luckily, Malark Buckman, agreed to foster Portia and unfortunately took over that role when Portia was only two. He never backed down from an agreement, but it restricted his aspirations with the temple. At least, many of his friends helped him raise her in the temple.
Portia took early to the ways of Lathander. Her ever optimistic attitude despite her fate in life won her over most times and the fact she wanted to do things correctly helped all the more. She aspired to follow Lathander as devotedly as Malark, maybe even more so. She looks forward to proving herself and helping Malark resume the path he had been on before she had come into his life. He may never reach the rank he may have if she had not come along, but she enthusiastically inspires him to go how he wants in the temple now that she is fully grown and taking her own place as an initiate cleric in the temple.
Due to spending most of her time in the temple and learning to become a cleric, she is pretty set in her ways and will not be swayed far from the tenets of Lathander. Sure she might mess up if she hasn’t properly learned something yet, but she’d rather take an eye out than wind up kicked out of the temple or worse knowing Lathander is personally displeased with her. She does believe he will speak to her if she properly listens and detects the omens of the events occurring.
To prove herself as a protector to Beregost she has spent some time attempting to clear up some of the goblin issue, but so far this has not proven overly beneficial. At least she knows how to stand and fight, but finds goblins scare easy if not in numbers. The most healing she has done amounted to bandaging minor wounds, probably more from trying to find goblins rather than any real fights.
Hey, Usurper, if you want to make your character a more sneaky/stealthy bard, then that would open me up to use my Sorcadin and give us another front-line fighter. I don't want to detract from whatever idea you already have. But if you're still uncertain on how to roll them, I'll propose that idea.
You know that in the PHB (Player's Hand Book) it says that you should choose two personality traits. I find that this is very often overlooked by players and DMs alike, but it is okay I did at first too.
I missed it for a long time. Now I largely choose to ignore it just due to a lack of options. You start having to repeat yourself almost immediately.
I'm fine with either. They're mostly simple RP guides anyway.

PBP "Beregost Blues" - Dungeon Master of Gnome Slaying +5
Just an FYI, something my wife just reminded me of that I had completely forgotten... I'm headed to Cancun the 16th - 22nd, so my posting during that time will likely be a little sparse. I'll keep the game moving still, but won't be AS focused on it until after.
Most specifically, fancy stuff like dramatic narratives will definitely occur before and after since I won't be taking my recording rig with me.

HighLordDukanis don't worry about this PBP game while your on vacation, just have a good time. Post a reminder in the actual game thread that the game is on pause and will resume when you return.
Just remember happy wife happy life.
I have been working some longer hours so may not be able to post during the work week until after 6pm EST.
Awesome! I'll just role with my rogue then. With your character being deathly afraid of the dark, Usurper, I don't think he would ever want to be the rogue type anyway.
LOL! Went to the link expecting more, but fun to find little audio clips. =) I have only to pick which god my cleric follows and get my backstory done.
EDIT: God chosen and backstory in my above character info post. I'm ready to go when you are.
As for the vacation time later this month, just go have fun and we'll be here when you get back. If you have withdrawal and it doesn't ruin faction with the wife, we'll do our best to play along with whatever you do post without trying to overload you in the process. ;)
Alright, we'll ramp up over the next couple of days. Keep a loose eye on the thread as I post some background, lore, and general info on the present state of things. Then we'll officially start in a couple of days when I've got the logger where I'd like it to be. Right now I've got it creating a session based on your IP when you login using username and password (which I'll provide via private message to each) and, for the next 24 hours the login page will take you straight to the roll logger without the need to login. If any of you have an IP address that changes a lot or you'll be accessing from multiple different locations, it'll keep a different session open per IP you login from. It's not a bulletproof security method, but I think it's sufficient for our purposes. No one's got much motivation to gank another person's logged rolls I wouldn't think.
I'll start with a series of images (mostly maps) and links to Wiki articles that you might find useful and informative. None of this is "required reading"... Everything truly important I'll either post directly to this thread or will unfold during play.
Awesome! As to the timeline: Are we pre-Spellplague? I only ask due to the large map, since it details Faerun geographically prior to the Spellplague. For example, this is what the map looks like post-Spellplague:
I personally think yours is easier to see. But there are some important geographical distinctions.
I'm guessing on the links that we are somewhere pretty close to DR 1370 or a little after. But my assumptions have been wrong before! And some of this I read already in the process of making sure I could properly setup my backstory and deity choice. Funny thing is I had her domain and personality and background done already, so the location made it EASY to determine how to work it out after I refreshed my dusty brain about this area of the Sword Coast. ::chuckles::

I think 5 works great with the party balance we're seeing. I'll just scale encounters to suit.
