You are walking through a wood that you don't recognize, and you don't remember how you got here. As you continue, you come across a tavern in a glen. It nothing extravagant. There is a second story, and music floats softly across the breeze. With the music, is the smell of delicious food, and you realize that you're hungry. As you walk inside, the tables are arranged around the walls with a few other customers sitting at them. On the wall behind the bar, you see a menu made out of old, thick oak of the items for sale. A dwarf is working his way around the tables, delivering mead, or ale, or pies and cakes to the customers. When he sees you he calls out, "Welcome stranger! Find a seat anywhere and I'll be with you momentarily."
(OOC): This is nothing more than just a place to come rest, or if you need a rest from questing. Stay as long as needed, but please keep it PG-13.
A dishevelled looking tiefling man with blue-grey skin, large horns rounded back over his head, and garbed in a grey robe slinks into the room, peering around with a look of apprehension. He appears to be armed with a dagger on his rope belt, with a buckler and shortbow strapped to his pack. His tail swishes behind him, tapping the ground behind him like an inverse blind man's cane.
He begins to sniff at the fresh baked goods scents, a sharp tooth sticking out from his mouth as he looks like a dog with its tail between his legs towards a table. "D'you have apple pie? I like apples." He says, his eyes shifting around the room as he asks and takes out a few silver coins.
The dwarf listens as he walks around the bar. "Yeah, we should have some." He turns and yells thunderously into the kitchen, " Hemeno! We still have any apple pie back there?" A human walks out with a pie with steam curling off the top of it. "Yep, Got one freshly made right here." He takes a plate from under the bar and sets in front of the man. He slices a piece out for the man, places it in front of him, then spins around to remove a cup from above the ale barrels. He slides it down to the man, and proclaims, "order up !"
A travel-worn human man, covered by a dirty grey cloak wich only shows a tired face that holds an uncared beard such as the hair that can bee seen through the cloak.
He enters the room and after seconds of looking around, with frat relief he stars heading too an empty table until the small of fresh baked pie turns him around, as he noticed a blue-grey creature with horns and tail, he quickly stands tall leaving behind any tiredness he might have shown before and with both his hands inside his cloak he slowly approches the creature, when close enough, calmly and yet with a threatening tone says:
"What are you, creature? I never seen one of your kind before, what brings you among the common folk"
"Bah!" The tiefling recoils after being addressed without getting his attention. He nearly falls off of his stool, but then catches himself, looking around to the human in the dirty cloak. "Well cutter, I'm not a creature; I'm a tiefling." He says, pointing to his horns. He mumbles to himself. "Honestly, humans are so clueless. Almost as bad as those paladins..."
The human looks at the tieflong for some seconds, inspecting him from top to bottom, while relaxing his stance he says, "Meant no offense Sir, the forest taught me that in doubt it is better to have a sword in your hand rather than teeths on your throat", without permisson he throws himself into a chair in the table that the tiefling was sitting, he clearly doesn't know or care about common-courtesy(the human), he looks around for the dwarf that greeted him, when he sees him, shouts out, "Something warm for me empty stomak, and a mug of ale for me and me friend", he then turns towards the tiefling with curious eyes and says, "heard tale of your kind, is it true that you can stand the fire breath of a dragon and walk away unscratched?"
"Well I've never fought a dragon, but we do better against fire than humans." The tiefling says, cutting the piece of pie and smelling it. "Though I did go through a huge fire pit and rescue some goblins from being sacrificed by some half-orc guy. Oh, I'm Karriz, by the way." He then begins to eat some of the pie while holding out his other hand to shake.
"Heres some broth, and a few mugs of ale for the lot a' ya. Also, best not be starting no quarrel." He jabs his finger towards a plank of wood overhanging the bar with the words 'Quarels are for quests, taverns for rest' scrawled in big letters across it
As the door opens yet again, a small figure now stands at the doorway. His skin red, snout long, and grin wide. He is wearing studded leather and carries a small crossbow on one side and a shortsword on the other and lastly a much too large heavy crossbow is strapped to his back. A small kobold begins to make his way to a table away from the other two patrons. He knows how much room he needs to enjoy his meal and frankly, their table is too crowded.
Quickly he takes a seat and after a moment of stirring in his seat to get comfortable he finally looks back to the table only to realize that he yet again forgot, these tables and chairs are made for.. larger beings and his snout sits level with the table's edge. Frustrated, he stands up on his seat and exclaims, "Food!" as digs his small clawed hands into his coin purse and proceeds to slam 4 silver on the table. Even with his exclamation the frustration quickly fades from his face as he grins widely at the other two patrons.
Karriz looks to his human 'companion' at his table, as his tail points over to the noisy kobold. "Wonder what got that cutter all riled." He says between mouthfuls.
After shaking Karriz hands, he introduced himself as Thalion, while going throw his bowl of broth, heeding what Karriz said, notice for the first time this new fellow for he was too concentrated on his food, after eyeing the kobold he says: "I've met his kind on my travels, they usually go in packs, probably a lost puppy wandering throgh the woods"
"Here is some soup, and let me get a shorter table set for ya, buddy." The dwarf says and goes to the back. He comes back out with a short table and two chairs under his arms. "It's always handy to keep a few of these on hand for those who are tall as the common folk." He finishes with a grin
"Puppies!?" Karriz shouts, looking around with looks of anticipated cuteness, then after a few seconds, realises that Thalion was talking about. "Aww, I was excited for a moment, then."
The kobold can't hide his excitement when he sees the barkeep coming back with a table sized just for him. He immediately takes his new seat and introduces himself to the barkeep, "Frinkle!"
Almost immediately after that he dives face first into his soup, making a huge mess of the table and the floor surrounding it. Not even the heat of the soup stops his eager attempts to finish it all as fast as he can. It seems that despite his attempts to fit in, some habits are not as easy to break. Once he 'finishes' his soup, he turns back to the other two strangers and grins widely once more.
Karriz's eyes brighten a bit. "He eats just like I used to..." He says before looking back to the apple pie, then stuffing another piece into his mouth. When Frinkle looks up from his food, Karriz waves to him. "Hey, cutter!" He says, using one of his long sharpish nails to pick at a flake of pastry lodged beside his canine tooth.
Frinkle waves to the horned stranger, "Hey, cutter" he mimics, with his raspy lizard-like voice. He pulls the second small chair at his table over to his side and gently pats it. while looking at the other two. Frinkle then motions to the barkeep, "Pie please!" and places another 2 silver on the table, more gently then the last time.
Frinkle then pulls open a pouch on his side and retrieves a small scrap of some type, and in a flash he is already eating whatever it was.
Karriz looks delighted, grinning widely as he looks from the kobold to the human, then back. "Let's go sit there." He says, getting up from his finished platter of pie, scurrying over and placing his pack by the shorter table. His tail retroactively grabs his tankard to bring with him. "Hey there, I'm Karriz!" He says, squatting onto the shorter chair.
As Karriz introduces himself, Frinkle has a hard time keeping his composure. He suddenly burst out in a fit of laughter upon seeing Karriz sitting at the miniature table on the small seat. Frinkle is so set upon by his laughter that he falls out of his seat which helps him snap back to reality.
Finally regains his composure, Frinkle introduces himself, still grinning, to Karriz, "I Frinkle. Frinkle Winkle. I like you, KA-Riss.. ? You are funny one." He then motions Karriz to go back to his own sized table, where Frinkle joins the other two patrons. He picks up his heavy crossbow and drags it over to the larger table, leaning it on his chair. Despite being too small for the larger table he does realize there aren't enough seats at his small table for the three of them. And so he figures one in discomfort is better then two.
"Oh, okay!" Karriz seems delighted that someone likes him. "I know!" He grabs the smaller chair, and places it atop the larger chair, effectively to make a high chair. "Here you go Frinkle, now you're the tallest at the table. Wanna be friends?" he says with a smile, offering to give the kobold a boost it.
