I've been a little away from D&D this past couple of weeks, but looking to get another game going. Thought I might try doing a more "evil" campaign, since most of my campaigns are all about the good guys doing nice things. Read the below spoilers for rules and character creation:
Campaign & Rules:
What is the campaign world? It is going to be a homebrew world. It is a more medieval fantasy, so less technologically advanced. Potions and alchemy rather than medicine, wagons and carts rather than airships. That type of tech level. You have been exiled from your current home, the Land of Rhelmlite, your reasons may vary, but most likely an evil act you did. While being deported on a ship, it is caught in a nasty storm and you are washed ashore on a new land that you have never been to. Looks like a place for a fresh start, where you can be the invading force and perhaps be something here.
What is the point of the campaign? You're evil. You want to do evil things, like rule with an iron fist. You're with a group of similar-minded dodgy people who want to also do evil things. Let's work together in our conquest to usurp the ever-good order of knights of the kingdom.
How evil can I be? The idea is being evil-aligned and doing things that are more selfish and for the greater evil (the greater evil...). I would prefer to keep the campaign PG-13, so if you are doing things that are very dark, excessively violent, gory, sexual, etc. Then it'll be a fade-to-black scenario. Keep in mind that D&D is a co-operative roleplay game. Don't all just be the moody loner who will kill anyone else on sight. You're going to need to stick together with your group of people you've befriended during your exile. Having said that, PvP is not banned, but discouraged; if it makes sense at the time, then I'll allow it.
How fantasy is this fantasy? It's a little more grounded than the typical high fantasy. Humans, as always, are the most common type of people in the world. Beyond that, wood elves, high elves, hill dwarves, mountain dwarves, stout halfings, lightfoot halflings, forest gnomes, and rock gnomes are somewhat common. Other races are quite rare (which includes half-elves, the interbreeding is not common), so if you're playing something that isn't the common race group, you will turn heads as you walk down the street.
Character Creation:
Starting Level: 3
Ability Scores: Point Buy or Standard Array
Preferences:
Homebrew Content: OFF (though see below)
Critical Role Content: ON (though see below)
Playtest Content: ON (though see below)
Eberron Content: OFF
Advancement Type: Milestone
Encumbrance Type: Use Encumbrance
Ignore Coin Weight: Off
Hit Point Type: Fixed
Sources Available: Anything on D&D Beyond EXCEPT the following: Eberron, CR Gunslinger archetype, UA Centaurs/Minotaurs, MTG-based sources (including UA for them). Playtest material may be used, but I have the right to vito something if it doesn't fit.
Races: If you are not a core race from the above (human, variant human, wood elf, high elf, mountain dwarf, hill dwarf, stout halfling, lightfoot halfling, forest gnome, rock gnome), then you will stick out like a sore thumb. Keep that in mind when you're working out how your special snowflake super rare racial character works.
Classes: Since it is more dark ages fantasy, magic is not a well taught subject. While it exists, and people know of magic, very few people practice the arts. There are no wizard colleges, it is a tradition that someone who has become a master wizard may live in a tower on their own, and apprentices hunt them down to teach them their mystical secrets. Divine casters are more restricted. Clerics and Paladins are loyal to their faith, and wavering from it can mean a loss in powers, be it temporarily or permanently. Druids and rangers are protectors and warriors of nature, and as such are against technological advancement; they do not get on well with people who embrace the sciences. Other arcane casters are also around, but are also not a commonplace thing. Sorcerers inherit from various backgrounds, but many perish early as they do not have tutors to help them learn to control their abilities. Warlocks indeed make dark pacts for their powers, but it does come with repercussions.
Multiclassing: You may multiclass, but keep in mind some restrictions roleplay-wise based on the above. If you do multiclass, you must explain your reason as to why. You may have a maximum of 2 classes ever on your character, so if you do multiclass, think your choice through wisely...
Alignment: Don't bother putting "Good" into that alignment slot. If you are playing Chaotic Neutral/Chaotic Evil, it doesn't mean "I can do what I want". It means you are one that does not appreciate rules, especially ones imposed on you. You actively are against law and what it holds. Playing chaotic evil/neutral is not a free pass to be a dick. Play a dick, and people will dick on you, too.

FAQ
There's this really cool homebrew race/archetype I really want to play. Can I play it? Send me a link to it (it needs to be integrated into D&D Beyond) and build your character with it, and I'll have a look at it. Keep in mind that if it conflicts with the stuff mentioned above, then it'll be a no.
What about X/Y/Z for making my character? See the Character creation spoiler above.
Can I still apply a character for this campaign? Is it before the deadline, which is in bold, red writing at the top of this post? Then sure!
What if I want to play a good character? Play in a good guy campaign.
Will Content Sharing be available? I personally have run out of content shares. However, we can arrange such things if a player cannot supply it, so still work out your character with the resources and if you don't have them, we'll work something out.
Can I play a Blood Hunter? Yes!
Why can't I play X/Y/Z? Read all of the above notes.
How "active" do you require your players to be? I would prefer players who can post daily (weekdays mostly), but if you can't make every day (real life unfortunately gets in the way of the thing that truly matters, D&D) then that's fine, just pop down how often you think you'd be able to post.
How do I apply? Simple! Just copy the Character Form spoiler and fill it in with your character. Ensure you've posted before the end of the deadline (I will put a post to confirm when this is closed) and that's all you need to do.
Can I apply with multiple characters? I'm going to say yes, but a max of 2 character concepts.
Will this be on D&D Beyond, or can we use Discord etc.? I'll be running on D&D Beyond. If there is a demand for something like a Discord server I'll set something up, but only if it is a majority vote of the players.
How many players are you looking for? The 4-6 group ideally. Remember: it isn't first-come, first-served, so feel free to apply before the deadline.
Wait, is it playing with 5th Edition Rules? The thread says 1st edition! It's using 5e D&D rules. The naming is mostly a joke, but have some ideas for down the line...
I'm in one of your campaigns, can I be in this one? Yes. I plan to be impartial on whether you've played with me, DM'd for me, I've DM'd for you, or never met you before!
Is my exile by the law? Doesn't have to be strictly a you've committed a crime, but you need a reason to have been on the prison ship. If it is self-exile, did you admit to a crime you didn't commit? Were you wrongly accused of a more heinous crime than you are actually guilty of?
Any special starting equipment? No. You start with your class' starting equipment plus your background's starting equipment. Nothing extra. Think of it as the equipment you have been left with for your exile, any other possessions you may've had were confiscated before you were sent into exile. You may roll on the trinket table if you so wish.
Can I buy anything? Yes. You may sell items from your starting equipment for their base cost in order to buy things (effectively exchanging them for their cost). You can only have items from the PHB base equipment, though.
Character Profile Name: Finias Fingers Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster) Background: Entertainer (Jester/Juggler) Why I'm Exiled: Unsavory looking beardless dwarf accomplice and lackey to a scheming, manipulative femme fatale Half-Elf named Melody, the would be mistress of a local lord that she was looking to scam and gold-dig her way into being added on to his 'will' with the hope of later talking yours truly into knocking him off and taking the fall. Along with an assortment of other criminal activities that Finias has gotten himself into all on his own such a petty theft, drunk and disorderly, public nuisance, pick-pocketing and panhandling, etc. What's My Goal: Complete and utter world domination and subjugation but baring that would settle for proving myself worthy of Melody and winning her attention and admiration. Shtick: Being an artful insincere disgusting flatterer and wormy boot-licking toady to those stronger, more power or smarter than himself. Talented (fair) viol player and slap-stick juggler, jester, and comedian. Phobia: Finias is philogynist who suffers from a specific form of atychiphobia, the fear of disappointing, failing, letting down or saying no to females.
Would this exile be a specific punishment from a lawful authority? Or could it be a kind of self-exile? Say for example, the character murdered a noble. The punishment for that would be death under any good-aligned lawful authority. But if the character escaped and chose self-exile to elude said authorities, would that qualify under your requirements?
Playing in: Shepherds of Truth - Thomas Roth, Shepherd of Mystra Aerovail, Cities in the Sky - Aidan Burke, Smuggler The Missing Schema - Trigger, Morgrave Trap-Breaker Echoes of the Past - Einar Barruk, Fight Club Brawler Once in Waterdeep - Nagao Jun, Windwise Wanderer
Sounds great I would love to be in an evil campaign. If someone is already in another campaign of yours that you are running can we still apply here with a character for consideration to join this one too?
Added to the FAQ. I'm happy to run for people I've run for before.

Added to the FAQ. You need a reason to be on this ship of exiles and criminals, so it may be that you were sentenced to death, but you had some friends in high places who managed to lower it to exile. Feel free to be a bit imaginative in the reasoning, but nothing too over the top.
My Profile Name: Knight Available: Everyday, multiple times a day if needed (barring emergencies and such)
Character Profile Name: Ekene Atli Race: Yuan-ti Pureblood Class: Druid, Circle of the Moon Background: Urchin Why I'm Exiled: Caught stealing food from a merchant while living on the run. Previously, she had been born into slavery in the household of an evil noble, but she managed to escape when she learned how to shift her form into that of a snake. What's my goal: Immediate goal, survival. Long term goal, exact vengeance upon her former master and everything and everyone who aids him. Shtick: Well-practiced cook, but was also a healer among her master's slaves. Phobia: Being at the mercy of another person, especially nobles.
Note: Will need Content Sharing to build the character as presented, but if it is unavailable, it shouldn't be too hard to shift her just a bit and still use her concept and background.

Luckily he still had friends and was able to receive exile instead of a death sentence. Beat a goblin near to death, then let it watch as you slowly skin its children. Drown a kobold in the blood of its kin. Impale an orc to a tree with its own sword, then slowly burn it to a crisp. He killed his quarry, clean and swift, as always. Problem was the noble that hired him to kill the rival for the hand of a royal relative, really hand't the money to pay him, so he turned Rothnar to the authorities instead of paying him. A mistake that he will regret some day. For the time beign Rothnar is making good money in his new home. But he never forgets. What's My Goal: To be rich enough to retire. He enjoys his work, make no mistake, but he wants to earn enough money to retire and life well. Problem is, never seem to be enough. And there is that noble in his homeland that must pay for what he did... Shtick: Follow the quarry, study it, kill it with an arrow, dissapear in the shadows. If he does his work well no one knows what hit them. Phobia: To suffer an injury that paralize him and not be able to move by his own means.

Question: Can I sell the shortbow and buy a longbow instead?
Hmm... You may sell starting equipment items for 100% of their value, then if you have the correct amount of money purchase something.
The other option is your starting class as ranger, unless you really need the rogue skills and saving throw proficiency at level 1 instead of the ranger ones. Isn't multiclassing fun?

Hey All,
I've been a little away from D&D this past couple of weeks, but looking to get another game going. Thought I might try doing a more "evil" campaign, since most of my campaigns are all about the good guys doing nice things. Read the below spoilers for rules and character creation:

Would this exile be a specific punishment from a lawful authority? Or could it be a kind of self-exile? Say for example, the character murdered a noble. The punishment for that would be death under any good-aligned lawful authority. But if the character escaped and chose self-exile to elude said authorities, would that qualify under your requirements?

Added to the FAQ. I'm happy to run for people I've run for before.
Added to the FAQ. You need a reason to be on this ship of exiles and criminals, so it may be that you were sentenced to death, but you had some friends in high places who managed to lower it to exile. Feel free to be a bit imaginative in the reasoning, but nothing too over the top.

Name: Willie 'Two-Faced' Nelson
Race: changeling, shouldn't be a problem as long as he doesn't show his true form. His preferred form is that of a human male in their late twenties.
Class: Rogue Assassin
Background: Criminal
Why I'm Exiled: Instead of paying him, the client betrayed him to the authorities. Now he finds himself on a ship heading into exile. Everything was taken from him including his reputation and his assassins guild, which was taken over by his subordinate who he suspects of working with his former client. Luckily he still had friends and was able to receive exile instead of a death sentence.
What's My Goal: Willie hopes to get revenge on the one who sent him into exile while wanting to rebuild his reputation and take back his assassins guild, or at least build a new one given that he finds himself in a new land.
Shtick: He is an excellent jeweler maker, or at least one of his alternate identities is. As a side business he takes the form of a elf male who specializes in rings.
Phobia: Arachnophobia
“Spirit. In every language in all the Realms, surface and Underdark, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination. It is the hero's strength, the mother's resilience and the poor man's armor. It cannot be broken and it cannot be taken away.”

Name: Kana Itharani
Race: Variant Human
Class: Ranger-Monster Slayer
Background: Folk Hero
Why I'm Exiled: A lot of people hire folks like me to hunt monsters. They don't care what the person does to the monster as long as they do the job. Beat a goblin near to death, then let it watch as you slowly skin its children. Drown a kobold in the blood of its kin. Impale an orc to a tree with its own sword, then slowly burn it to a crisp. They don't care. I did all those things, and people regarded me as a hero. But when I go hunt a human, suddenly I'm a murderer?
What's My Goal: To make people realize that monsters aren't the only ones that are hunted...

Name: Rothnar Genn
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Rogue2 / Ranger1 ( will go to assasin / gloom Stalker)
Background: Urban Bounty Hunter
Why I'm Exiled: Rothnar is an assasin. Pure and simple. You want to eliminate a foe? The one that stealed you? The guy your wife is cheating you with? Your wife?. Rothnar is your man. For a price. If you want the quarry alive, it can be done... but he prefers the jobs where the goal is to elimiante, not to drag and babysitting the quarry until delivery. One job went south.

Question: Can I sell the shortbow and buy a longbow instead?
PbP Character: A few ;)
Hmm... You may sell starting equipment items for 100% of their value, then if you have the correct amount of money purchase something.
The other option is your starting class as ranger, unless you really need the rogue skills and saving throw proficiency at level 1 instead of the ranger ones. Isn't multiclassing fun?
