Hearing Bommie call out for the creatures hunting them, Froskan has another idea. He uses his final remaining spell slot to quicken a Chromatic Orb (cold, level 2) at Bommie, then casts Minor Illusion to create the sound of another yell (centered on Bommie) in Bommie’s voice, calling out, “They’re running for the southern gate!”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(I'm going to have Reverie move forward and do the standard scimitar-dagger attacks.)
Player actions - round 2
Jack - moves forward to melee range. (His attacks miss.)
Froskan - (is making my life difficult.) Bommie is surprised to hear her voice yelling out about the southern gate. She looks towards the door of the training area (with a look of fear), and then left and right to see if anyone is nearby. She is then blasted by an ice orb (13 cold damage).
Trimyrai - is just able to connect with his arrow, for 7 damage. (Froskan's spell blast almost altered the arrow flight.)
Reverie - moves forward, next to Jack, and attacks. Scimitar attack: 16 Damage: 5, Dagger attack: 12 Damage: 2 (both miss)
Iskander - moves to within 10' of Bommie, and gets a solid glaive strike (18 damage total).
Enemy actions - round 2
Bommie is looking heavily beat up. She continues yelling "here, training grounds" while Froskan's illusion is shouting about the south gate. (DM rolls to see whether the deception works: 5, 6)
She fights back desperately. (Odd: Jack, Even: Reverie - roll 4) Rapier attack: 9 Damage: 13, clubbing punch attack: 19 Damage: 8... Both strikes hit Reverie for 16 damage. She is down to 8/36 hp.
Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
Bommie took 38 damage last round, for a total of 50 damage. She looks badly wounded, but is still fighting back.
Reverie was struck twice. Reverie is at 8/36 hp. Iskander is at 25/31 hp. Jack is at 24/35 hp. Froskan is at 22/30 hp.
Up in the sky, there is a faint glow in humanoid shape, like the dying embers of a camp fire. It was headed towards training grounds, but it veered to the south. But after a few seconds, it has made a U-turn, and is headed back towards your location again. You can't make out what it is from this distance, or its size, or its speed.
All party members can post for round 3. You can post in any order, but the effects will resolve in initiative order. (Froskan's illusion bought the group an extra round to deal with Bommie. You are not certain when this new object will arrive.)

Trim uses textbook technique to do another 7 damage arrow shot. Reverie strikes with her scimitar (5 damage) and dagger (3 damage). Bommie is distracted, allowing Isk to get a massive blow with the glaive (11 slashing, 12 necrotic). "Bommie" is sent sprawling to the ground.
Isk uses healing hands on Reverie (now at 12/36 hp).
Before your eyes, the form flows and morphs. The skin, armor, and clothes all become a blue-grey rubbery hide. The face is almost featureless. On the ground is the lifeless body of a doppelganger. (It had a lot more HP than average, to up its challenge rating.)
At its side is a pouch (of coins), a scabbard, and a rapier.
(That figure in the sky is still approaching, but it is far enough away that it won't be able to see what is going on in the dim lighting. Your group has a short time to prepare and discuss plans. You could get into a battle formation. You could try to stealth behind obstacles on the training field, like the trees and target dummies. You could go inside the dojo, and prepare for ranged attacks behind cover... You won't have enough time for anything elaborate, like digging a trench.)

Isk makes for the nearest bit of cover and will attempt to hide. Stealth: 18
(There is cover outside from the trees and straw scarecrows.
There is better cover inside the dojo, but you wouldn't have a line-of-sight for something flying overhead. It would be like the Westerns, with fighters near the doorways and windows, but without six-shooters. You had already piled up boxes and put tables on their sides to provide more cover near the dojo entrance.
I wasn't sure if your group wanted to have a straight-up fight, or something sneaky like Froskan did with Minor Illusion. The fake Bommie was identical to the real Bommie, so you wonder how the bad guys would tell them apart.
Are you leaving the doppelganger body out in the open? Anyone want the pouch or the magic rapier?)

(Okay, everyone is in the dojo, behind cover. The doppelganger was carried in and put where it wouldn't be seen from the outside.)
After a few seconds of silence, a medium-sized figure lands in the middle of the training grounds. The fiery glow when it was flying earlier earlier has been suppressed. It is wearing black scale armor, and has an empty quiver on its back (worn low, like a fanny pack). It has bat wings, and appears humanoid. It is looking around the yard, and after a few moments it heads to where you fought the doppelganger. It reaches down to touch some of the pools of blood (your party) and ichor (dopple) from your earlier fight. It continues turning its head, looking for something (or someone).
(Low lighting from a distance. Everyone make a Perception roll, to see more. And roll either Arcana or Religion, to identify the monster.)

If Bommie is still up by the time it gets to Isk's turn he will attempt a non-lethal blow to knock her out.
Attack: 27 Damage: 11 + 6 necrotic damage
Edit:. Shazam! + 6 for the extra crit damage from hex
If she has dropped, he will use his healing hands racial ability to heal Reverie for 4hp.
