Isk waslks through the portal and finds himself upon the slab. He blinks and rubs the sides of his head as if warding off an approaching headache. "I..." he starts, "I have the strangest headache." He looks unsteady on his feet and begins to falter when, in a puff of purple smoke, his glaive appears in his hand, unbidden. At once, Isk is able to right himself.
"This place is oddly familiar. I can't shake the feeling I've been here before." The momentary disorientation seems to pass, and Isk sighs saying, "Thank you Reverie, I think I'll be ok."
Reverie walks along with her friends and then frowns at Isk's reply. Soon, she looks at his glaive appearing in his hand and witnesses him relying on his weapon. "Oddly familiar?" She murmurs, "Of course. If there is anything you need, let us know." Then she gazes at Froskan, Trim, and Jack for a moment before walks on the path. "The direction has changed. Hopefully, it leads us to the best way."

”Then we should keep moving towards where the book is leading us.”
You follow the new direction indicated by the book. The path is going uphill, and the ground is getting rougher.
As you were wondering if this was the right choice, you can see over the side of the hill the path that you were previously following. That path stayed level and seems easier. But you notice that it is trafficked by other humanoids, a group of 8. From this distance, you can't see in great detail. (The lighting and fog-like smoke aren't helping.) The words that best describes them is "elvish assassins". These are probably the Shadar-kai, the minions of the Raven Queen that Theo suggested you avoid. The path that you are currently on, although more difficult, is leading you away from where they are patrolling.
--------
The dry air and acrid fumes are making you more tired than usual. After an hour of traveling, your group takes a short break in a clearing on your path, to drink some water and catch your breath.
As you are ready to continue on, Iskander's weapon gives an audible purr. (Probably alerting you of enemies nearby, but this is different than the mental twinge that you are used to.) Reverie gives a hushed cry of alarm. She was making sure that the return crystal (from Theo) was where she put it, when something bumped into her and wrested it out of her hands! The crystal is nowhere in sight. There is nothing around you, but you can hear sounds next to you from the ground, like feet scraping.
(OOC: Let me know what you want to do about this situation. And include a Perception roll.)

Reverie curses as soon as she realizes the crystal is gone from the hold of her hand. "Something bumped me and..." She sighs deeply, shutting her eyes. "The crystal is gone too. There is no way we could go back now." Then she starts to look around the area, hearing the sound of feet scraping. "We are not the only one in this realm. Someone is here." Soon, Reverie pulls her scimitar. "Who's there around us?"

"is it worth risking some light?" Froskan asks, lifting the lantern of revealing to remind the others that it could reveal invisible creatures, but will produce bright light that could attract others, such as the shadar-kai patrol.
Iskander and Trimryai think that the sounds of feet scraping is due to someone/something near Reverie moving around, and a group running at your party. The rest of you hear the noises, but are confused where it is coming from.
(While they are invisible, if they attack they get Advantage, and if you attack you are at Disadvantage. Isk and Trim know where to aim right now, but everyone else would be guessing and might be swinging at air.)

Trimyrai temporarily puts his bow away, grabs a torch out of his pack and lights it, putting it in the middle of the group. Then casts Thaumaturgy to increase the flames of the torch's brightness.
