I'm putting the text in blocks so they are out of the way when you are done with them.)
Bommie hands you your "visitor" IDs.
The city bureaucrats have a bit of an attitude. For your "home", they don't list the names of your villages. Instead, Trim's says "Squall Mountain province". Theren and Froskan have "Argali west province". Jack's has "Harbor of Nunkreet". Reverie's ID has a fancier design, and lists "Frostgleam territories" for her home... "If you decide to become city residents, you'll have to see the city administrators to get that processed. As "visitors", you'll have to pay 1 SP each time you go through the city gates, in either direction. Usually best to plan to stay inside the city for a while, or stay outside for a while, so you don't have the hassle of the gates... It is cheaper to stay in the northern or southern suburbs, but shopping and religious services are better inside."
Bommie also spreads out a blank parchment. "Let me draw you some of the key features about the city." Her drawing isn't 100% accurate (the city is not a perfect rectangle, for example), but she is trying to show some of the most important features.
Nunkreet has the population of a small city (10K), but the land area of a large city (200 acres). The Low Wall is 10' tall, surrounding the city. The High Wall is 20' tall, and surrounds a hill. "High" refers to both height and the upper class that lives there. Reverie could pass through the "High Gate"; the others would be denied and have to use the North or South Gate. (The Gap is only used by the highest clergy and nobility.) "High Castle" is the residence of the Viscount in charge of the city.
The labels for "craftsmen" and "merchants" are where a lot of them are located, but that does not mean all of them. The slums would still have a few shops. Not every blacksmith is in the NW ward.
The other black lines are the major streets. The Avenue of the Divine, in addition to being part of the Primus Road, is the heart of all the temples and churches in the city. The east-west road to the north is Bytopia Avenue, to the south is Carceri Avenue. The north-south road near the Gap is Ysgard Street. The next one in the middle of the chuch ward is Arcadia Street. To the west of that is Acheron Street, which eventually merges with the North Gate Street.
Bommie mentions a few more details about the city that she thinks you'd want to know.
"The Viscount runs the city. But ever since the Massacre of the Mad Earl, the churches tend to do whatever they want. No single faith is in power, but if they act as a group, the Viscount will obey them.
"The quality of the city guard and city administrators has been decreasing for some time. Most of them are still good, but use caution if you cross paths with the troublemakers or the corrupt.
"The temple area is the major market in the city. For example, the followers of a blacksmith deity will be selling armor, clerics of a healing god might sell health potions, and so forth. The divinely inspired items also mean that the prices are ungodly. But if there is something you want that can't be found elsewhere, there is probably some god who has the right specialization.
"The next market in importance is the South Gate Market. With the goods arriving at the Harbor of Nunkreet (a sub-city 20 miles to the south of Nunkreet), there is a lot of trading in this market... I think the Harbor should have become the important city in the region (instead of what we call Nunkreet), but as a water genasi, maybe I miss not being able to surf around the ships more often.
"You can find shops and groceries even in poorer areas like the suburbs near this compound, but they tend to be limited to common goods.
"Now my mouth is dry from all that talking. Time for more drink and food!"

Bommie (to Trimyrai): "Sorry, the few prisoners that we had from the attack on the Caravan were turned in to the Viscount's guards. Although we were guarding the Caravan, mercenaries have to turn over criminals to the city authorities.
"Is there something specific you wanted to know? Bandits tend to be not that bright, or well traveled, or truthful in what they say. If you joined the Watchful Guild, you'd have access to much better information." (OOC: Bommie won't hold back information from you, but she won't miss an opportunity to give you another sales pitch.)

Bommie (to Trimyrai): "Starting from the end, and ending at the start... The Guild works to keep things safe in the wilds, everywhere between Nunkreet and Still Lake. We return to Nunkreet because it is the only large center of civilization in the west. There are many villages spread out, but their resources are too limited to be a home base for adventuring... I myself spent several weeks traveling to Argali Lake and back as part of the Caravan assignment, so it isn't like I am tied to the city. But I go where the Guild needs me to be.

That would require an organization with a lot more discipline and secrecy than road bandits would have. "hmm. Blacksmith tanner butcher. Does he sell Hunting traps?" (I wont let this go. I will eventually catch that thing.) "Who's Mad Earl?"
"That part of the city has most of the blacksmiths, tanners, butchers... Any job that stinks and requires the creek water in the NW corner of the city. Most of them were put there so the rich folk don't have to breathe in the fumes and smoke... You can still find blacksmiths elsewhere (including the northern suburbs). For hunting traps, if can't find one you like at the blacksmiths, one of the gods of the hunt might sell them at the Avenue Market. Once Reverie gets her visitor ID from Bommie, she starts to think deeply as she read her surname on the ID. As soon as the explanation of the city starts, her gaze shifts back to Bommie and then to the map she drew. Then she tilts her head in curiosity of how this city works currently. "This may sound quite random. What do the nobles doing while the churches are doing whatever they want to do? Bommie (to Reverie): "The Viscount rules the city. Over the nobles and the churches too. The laws drafted after the end of the Mad Earl put limits on the sorts of orders he can make. That is for everyone's protection, though. No one wants those things at the end of the Avenue... (Ah, I said I wasn't going to talk about dark matters during a celebration...) "The nobles are like anyone else living out here, some good, some bad, making a living. They just have the wealth to do more than the rest of us, right? (Rest of us not named Forestgleam, I mean.) The Watchful Guild wouldn't have this compound if one of the nobles (I don't know who) didn't make a generous donation to our cause.
"My map drawings were probably confusing. The High Gate is the entrance on the east side of the Low Wall. It has the shortest path to the High Wall, which surrounds the High Castle and High Garden, the lands of the nobles and wealthy... No offense, but I didn't know who the Forestgleams were until I talked to the person making your IDs. Your family (which includes distant relations and vassals pledged to the family) has a proud reputation in the nations of the far east, but no real presence out here on the frontier... The nobles in High Garden probably have your name in one of their books. (They are always keeping track of which members of other families can still be married for a political alliance.)... If you have the wealth for property inside High Garden, you could identify your friends as servants on your estate, and they'd be able to come and go with fewer hassles... All this is second hand. I don't know of anyone here that has had need to be inside the High Garden."

Bommie (to Trimyrai): "Sweetie, it is Bommie, with an M. My parents told me it means the breaking wave over deep water reefs.
"Sorry that I couldn't convince you to join at this time. So much dangerous work, and always shorthanded... When you make more of a name for yourself, be sure to mention the Watchful Guild helped you out, right? Anytime you'd like some work, we keep a list of requests that can be done that doesn't require full-membership."
(mock serious) "Never say you'll work for free! Too many people would try to manipulate you, if you did. And costs are high near the city, and getting coin is dangerous work... The founders of my Guild requires us to help out adventurers if we can, as long as they are doing good work and keeping people safe... If you do decide to join a guild or a church, remember us and give us a another chance, right?"

Bommie (to Theren): "I realize that this is a lot to take in. When the time is right, if you want to join, we have open arms."
(serious) "Some advice. My intuition tells me that some higher power has a claim on your destiny. Don't let a church force you to be what you aren't. While we can't fight the gods, they don't have absolute control over our fates... The churches cooperate in the city, but that is a cover. If you get caught up in their schemes and plots and hidden battles, they will chew you up and dump your remains down the Pit."

Bommie (to Froskan, playfully): "Anything we can help you with? The Watchful Guild has a superstition that silver scales bring us luck, so we wouldn't mind having you around more often."

(typing error, my mistake, i meant to type Bommie.)
Trimyrai: (to Bommie) "If for whatever reason i was to stay in the city or settle down here, not likely, if i was, i'd be more willing to join. what i meant by working for free, i meant working for your guild for free, since you've been so helpful with all my questions. i'll definitely point people in your direction if they are looking for work."

"Froskan will surely bring luck. He killed an ogre recently!" Jack laughs.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Reverie chuckles when Jack laughs and tells Froskan will bring luck. ”I agree with Jack. Froskan is an amazing sorcerer.” Then she pauses as she starts to think deeply. “It is normal for not knowing a noble family. I will visit the High Garden whenever I am allowed by the time.”
