"Why was it difficult to buy fresh bread in Luskan (wherever that is)?"
"It's not dear"
"You said you tried to buy fresh bread, not that you did buy fresh bread... If you are suffering under a geas or something against visiting a market, you have people here who can help you get enough food."

The group settles up with Wan Bai, who reminds the boys that she'll have another shipment of sa-kay by midwinter. "And Criella, I do hope these fine folks can help you."
The day is crisp but not too cold (15ºC/59ºF), the clouds have moved on, and the snow is melting. It was clearly an early snow, but it might portend a snowy winter. You make decent time, and the Long Road is in good repair. After an hour a horse and rider gallop past on the road (remember, you're moving south, towards Waterdeep). Those leaving Waterdeep on foot today won't get to this point for many hours yet. After another hour, Criella indicates a small cart track leading off to the right (west). "Here is the road. It is another mile or so."
The cart track is what you expect, a little overgrown, a little rutted, but clear enough to walk several side by side. There are trees, but it wouldn't be called a forest, exactly, you can still see a fair distance, and the sun comes through.
Please suggest to me the order in which your group is traveling, at this point (on the cart track, as we approach Criella's cottage). Criella will be in the lead, clearly, showing the way. For game sake, let's say three across, is a comfortable setup, but you could be paired, or walking alone.
(I'll go with what the others want, if they don't like this suggestion. Drusk and Jorin on either side of Criella. Mrs. Brinarei directly behind Criella, with Hildigrim and Vanja on either side of her.
If something dangerous appears, Criella would step back, and the 2 high-AC characters form the front-line.)

It's a beautiful day, the birds are singing and flitting in the sparse trees. Criella has spent some time speaking with Mrs. Brinarei, and I imagine the boys have been doing some laughing and whatnot. But you know, if you want to go in loaded for bear, that's fine. :)
I'm just kidding, arrange yourselves how you like! I'm cool with the suggestion Quasimodal made.

(My next suggestion was going to be the Heavy Socializing line-up. It is also the Reverse Combat order, because we'd be going from low AC to high: Criella, Mrs. Brinarei, Vanja, Hildigrim, Drusk, Jorin.)

Once we turn off the main road onto the cart path, Jorin takes up a position next to Criella. He is only half paying attention to the conversation in the group (if there is any) while keeping his eyes on the area around him.
"Has anyone made trouble for you while you were at your home, or only when you were away?"
Criella notices when the lines shift, but she takes it in stride. "I have never seen anyone, but there have been noises at night, and when I dare to go out, there is nobody. But now with my sheep slaughtered, I did not dare stay."

((OOC: I'm good with either order, as even Quasi's first suggestion still puts everyone close enough together for conversation.))
As is her habit from traveling alone, Vanja spends much of the morning gazing at the nearby trees and any flowers or interesting natural features they happen to pass, though she engages in conversation when prompted. She blushes deeply at the compliment to her appearance...then blushes even deeper at the bold suggestion of finding a suitor among present company.
"Uh...no..." she replies a bit hesitantly, "I'm not married, though it is true that people of my kindred usually marry young."
She pointedly keeps her eyes on the ground as she conveys this.
"I've got, let's say...special circumstances...that preclude me from thinking about that kind of thing just yet."
"Love is the only special circumstances dear. It can overcome anything in life and can persist through death."Mrs. Brinarei takes a quick deep breath and stands upright with what looks like a renewed sense of purpose as she continues moving forward.
As the party approaches Criella's homestead, you all notice that the birds seem fewer, and the day seems to grow less crisp. Nothing in particular seems wrong, it's just less... comfortable. A chill breeze has started up. "There it is," Criella says, pointing.
Ahead, you hear and see a small creek, with a wide, sturdy-looking wooden bridge crossing it. Across the bridge is Criella's home. There is a wide, trampled grassy area, about a hundred feet wide, on which sits a small thatch-roofed cottage to the right side, and a small open-walled shelter to the left. Much snow does not appear to have fallen this far south. The grounds have been cleared, but there are brambles and bushes along the perimeter, and along the creek's edge (making crossing the creek itself without using the bridge more difficult). Two blackened, burned trees sit at the far end of the property. There are a handful of sheep about the place, but they are avoiding the shelter, where two dead sheep lay slaughtered.
As you approach the bridge, Criella drops back, leaving the marching order as you previously determined:
Jorin and Drusk in front, followed by Hildigrim, Mrs. Brinarei, and Vanja, and now Criella (making a sort of jumbled foursome).
Drusk to Vanja: "I'm not great with animals. Would you take a look at the dead sheep, maybe figure out how they died, or what might have killed them? I can pray to give you Guidance while you investigate."

"These are the dead sheep and burned trees you mentioned?" Jorin says, as a sort of half-question, half-statement, "Drusk and I will make sure the house is clear" he adds, drawing his battleaxes, and approaching the door.
"Alright, " he bellows and clangs the two axe blades together, "If anyone is in there, now is your chance to come out and leave this place."

Edit: I can retcon that action until after Vanja investigates the sheep if the group likes. Quasi and I posted at about the same time.
