"I'm not going to speculate about that, but the longevity of battle trained horses increases with their skill, their riders skill and appropriate barding. As far as I'm aware my Iron Guard's Glare would also affect an opponent if they tried to attack my horse instead of me so, there's that as well. It's not like it's something we can test. These divine gifts are only granted for true threats. The rest of the time I have to practice with the intent of proving my broader skills and pray, literally that they work. But that's where faith comes in now, doesn't it." I say with a wink. "If you don't see it," pointing at the sky and lifting up his meal," or feel the direct presence of something, It's so much harder to believe it exists. I've been Catholic and Jewish and the faith I have had then, is nothing like I have now. I've always secretly wished for a divine presence like Bahamut to be there. Now, I know he is."
The more you are in battle with the horses and they survive the more they will become accustomed to threats and danger and a little less likely to spook. However they will not be a trained warhorse. That does take time. You never know what you will find down the road as you explore more of this area.
As we ride away, I say to Rachel "What about that Druid spell 'Awaken' that gives a normal animal magical intelligence? Would that be possible to make our mounts significantly tougher and more than just a ride?"

I look thoughtful for a moment as i consider Grant's question. " That's actually a very good idea and would be a huge help for us. Unfortunately it will be quite a while before I have the ability to cast it. It's a fairly high level spell. Hopefully we have found a solution to the problem before then. Unless... we can find a more experienced druid in this world that is willing to help us. I'm sure the cost won't be cheap. "
I frown as we ride back towards the stronghold, "That should be doable in theory, I even like the concept of being friends with Morgenstern here on another level."
"But I'm not sure it would go that smoothly. We would have to befriend what is essentially a newly born sapient being and convince them to share our objectives and play the part of a beast of burden. Even attempting it seems a little irresponsible."
As we head back to the Stronghold, I hope Easy Spirit made it to the stable instead of becoming food for a Dire wolf. With everything that has happened thus far, I ponder; can I handle doing these scout trips and manage the Inn too. Maybe I am best to stay at the Inn and manage it with Kelvin. With these thoughts in my head I still keep an eye out for any dangers that may befall us as we head back.
Everyone is able to make it back to the Stronghold with no issues. You all get 200 experience for the creatures you did kill. what will be your next step? You also find out no horses made it back to the stronghold that were lost around the Dire wolves.
"I know that there may be a risk of rejection from any newly enlightened being, but I feel like we risk far more by putting these poor creatures through hazards that uses them up like recently. At least an Awakened steed is more capable of defending itself, and helping us help it to survive. These poor beasts are just wolf meat in a battle. If it comes down to it, even if we could shunt them off into a safe demi plane or dimensional pocket, when battle is about to happen, would be better than what currently happens. It seems like a such a waste. "
Once back at the base, I'll hand Rachel the Broach I had been working on, saying "This should help protect you against a lot of this world's dark creatures.". I'll also check on the mage working on the armour, to see how it is going and if I can assist in any way. (5 out of 7 days)
OOC - Broach of Protection from Evil (constant). I think it was for Rachel. :D

it's so nice to be back in safety after the last couple of days. The stronghold looks like home now. I take the broach from Grant and look at in amazement. I beam at him. " Thanks Grant. This is some great work. Thank you so much. "
Grateful to be back, I see Morgenstern to the stables and give him extra treats for carrying two riders on the way home. Sighing at the losses incurred, I go to check on the horses recovered from the orc band, to see if any remain unclaimed.
Either way, I'll spend the evening finishing up on the construct I was making for Grant. Fortunately, this one turns out better than the last, and the little bird flutters in my hands as I carry it to its master. "Your connection with it is strong, you can communicate out to a long distance. Remember to set standing orders to stay out of trouble, it lacks many of the self preservation instincts a real creature has. Any ideas on a name?"
After that, I go to see Lywenta, "I wanted to thank you for your assistance with that dragon. It could have gone very badly for us without your intervention. It occurs to me though, chances seem decent that the creature's hoard is now at least mostly unguarded. Whatever could be found within that lair could be of benefit to us all. Do you have any insight on finding it?"
Rolled the checks in discord. Three evening's crafting on the road, 1 evening at the stronghold
Admiring the finished product, I marvel at the effortless communication that telepathy with this tiny personality provides. “I’ll call him Ariel, after the helpful sprite in the Tempest. Let’s hope his talent at avoiding danger rivals the swiftest of fairy. “
Now that the one project is complete, I gather more materials to create my next item of interest - magic horseshoes and special boots for Jonathan.
Ooc- any preferences for boots?

Travis, is relieved to have arrived back at the stronghold alive and in one piece. But saddened by the loss of his mare. He quickly tends to his one and only remaining mare, a pack horsethat was picked up from a band of Orcs, with the other's. He gives it a groom, and feeds it carrots, knowing that he will need to rely, on this steed for transport in the future.
"I will need to call you something girl, how about Autumn," he says.
He ponders, in the early hours of the evening about making another "Entropic shield," scroll, and or perhaps another "Endure elements," scroll the following days, ahead.
Later, before, retiring for the night, he recalls his last experience with the dream berry wine, and the ratio of distilled dream berry elixir to red wine. From his notes, it was one part (shot) dream-berry solution to three parts normal red wine, acquired previously from the Inn.The drink was consumed, and the net results, were that Travis had been knocked out for approx, 5 hours, with a side effect of waking up with erotic dreams.
"Well, I cant let a good night cap go to waste,"? He says, knowing full well its effects by now, he cautiously takes a drink from his glass, near his bed.
OOC Two servings of red wine remain, after drinking this glass. But I don't know how much actual distilled "dream-berry" solution remains. But the distilled solution has been used twice, the first attempt with disastrous result, (on someone else). The second attempt, on himself which resulted in Travis being out cold for 5 hours.
Travis that is your last part of the dreamberry wine. You would have to distill more and get three more servings and that would be the last of your dreamberries. You would either then have to find more dream berries or wait until the elve teens get thier dream berry bushes to grow and produce more dreamberries.
Jason Lywenta thanks you for thanking her. She says "yes not knowing exactly what creatures are out side our area of influence is the hard part. Knowing that your group is expanding our region of influence and riding the area of major threats makes our job much easier as people move outwards for better farming opportunities or even fishing and mining. Yet the dangers to you could be many and as dangerous as the dragon. I know the lord is proud of the work you have been doing and hopes that it all keeps going well. As far as where the black dragons lair is at is a mystery to me as he was not close to his lair and most Blacks keep their lairs underwater in brackish water. Look for a swamp or a mire to look for his lair."
As you arrive back at the stronghold the first sun is setting signalling the evening meal will soon be served. You will see the Lord and one of the Armored Red heads standing upon the battlement watching you as you arrive back. After seeing you all arrive back he turns and heads back inside to the dining hall.
"Brackish water, isn't that where sea water meets with freshwater?"
"As far as boots go, something simple wearing heavy armor slows me down what if there's something that can keep my pace up with the rest of the group that'll help"
"I'm using boots that increase my stride and jumping ability, as you've seen in combat. They give me incredible ability to feel like a minor Superman, leaping tall wagons in a single bound, etc. Want those?"

I nod, "I will keep an eye out for such an area. Hopefully some manner of divination spell when we get close could help narrow it down, I am not particularly inclined to go diving into and rooting around every bog I see."
"The problem that worries me right now is transport. We just lost half of our horses to simple bad luck, and the Stronghold is running out of replacements, even with the steeds recovered from those orcs factored in. It would help if they were wartrained, but that would take well over a month of dedicated effort, and I doubt we can afford to remain passive that long. If this trend keeps up, we'll loose the speed and mobility letting us range out and outmaneuver the threats as well as we have been. I can think of a couple of ways to help solve the issue, but they are well out of our reach for the moment."
I fish out the stones recovered from the hobs we killed after parting with Lywenta last time, "But on to other matters. We recovered some more of those speaking stones. I was curious if you had gleaned more from them. I have two particular questions there. Can we tap into their network to listen to what is being said, or perhaps even locate the source? Also, can we repurpose these stones for our own use? If nothing else, the stronghold being able to actively keep in touch with people ranging outside its influence could be quite useful."
Arriving back at the stronghold, I notice the lord and the now very familiar Red headed guard beside him atop the gate. I can't help but smile at see them both. Seeing Kelvin and the way the sun hits his armor he looks like as if he had been touch by some type of magic and looks like what most people back on Earth thought angels looked like. My urge to run through the gate and up the stairs is strong, but I somehow resist it as I see the lord turn and leave from his position and Kelvin following shortly there after. I go to the stables to check things there and even though I have a gut feeling Easy Spirit didn't make it; I had to make sure. I then will head to the Inn and see how things are there and hopefully meet Kelvin on his way there as well.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The next day, after eating a hearty breakfast, Travis begins his usual ritual of tending to his remaining untrained mare, named Autumn. Feeding it carrots, grooming and patting her.
For the rest of the day, he finds a quiet secluded area in the stronghold, and prepares to craft an Entropic shield scroll, which will undoubtedly take him the rest of the day.

Lywenta asks you to leave the stones as she is still working on deciphering them. Thus far she has not had much luck but she will see about maybe making them work for you too.
As you wander around the area by the stronghold and inside the stronghold itself you feel and hear the buzz of excitement as people talk about the Inn's official opening coming tomorrow morning and that a grand breakfrast will be served there instead of in the normal dinning hall.
