After reaching the village, you would begin fortification and defense efforts. The townspeople either take up arms or begin to prepare to leave. With some reinforcements from the (relatively speaking) nearby city, the townsfolk who cannot fight would begin to teleport into the city, as the mages sent use teleport circle. Once the gnolls and rest of the army arrive, the battle begins in earnest. The gnolls are revealed to be headed by a disgraced high elf, coincidentally, a younger cousin of Captain Amakiir. The cousin was exiled for summoning demons and all that fun dark magic stuff, and he has not learned his lesson, as the gnolls are accompanied by a shooshuva.
The result of the battle determined whether or not the gnolls are dispersed or turn their attention to Heaven's Reach.
