Astrid steps out from the alcove and see the wave of shadow engulf the fleder ahead of the others. Looking for the source, she turns and sees Ling apparently pushing herself beyond her limits which results in the knocking all the bat creatures off their feet, with one looking dead. Not wanting to be lag behind, the cleric grits her teeth and pushes the ethereal clock to the one on the floor in front of Caio. She wipes a bit of blood beginning to run from her nose and the pendulum crashes down on the helpless creature. She then reaches up and pulls on an invisible rope casing the sound of bells to ring around it.
Seeing Shiva, Caio and Alaris confronted with so many fleder at once, Ling gathers the shadows around her. She watches as Shiva retreats into an alcove, effectively locked in by the monsters. This won't do, this won't do at all! She ignores the stabbing headache she is beginning to feel and gathers even more darkness to herself, before pushing it onto the creatures with a shout. It knocks them over; the skull of the fleder closest to her friend hits the stones with a satisfying crunch and lies motionless. Ling staggers a little, but looks entirely pleased with herself.
Alaris watches the wave of tenebrous shadow smash into the fleder, and a broad smile bursts across their face.
"Well-spelled, Princess of Shadows!" the paladin calls over their shoulder before slashing brutally at one of the fallen creatures. A burst of radiance ends its misbegotten life, and the paladin stands ready for the others to attempt to rise.

Nikolai waves starlight in front of him, hurling it at the fleder, but they're too fast for him and it streams over them into the darkness.
The fleder leap to their feet as the shadows pass over them. The first is faster than Caio can match and slashes wildly at him again. Its claws screech as the elf's breastplate saves him from serious injury.
Caio takes 15 points of piercing damage to vigour, reduced to 7 by DR -> 31/52 Vigour
On the other side of the corridor Alaris's glaive slices deep into the rising fleder, once more flaring with radiant light. The beast screams as it is knocked back to the ground, followed rapidly by yet another slash from Shiva's shining blade.
The monster snarls up at the tiefling and grabs suddenly at her ankles, dragging Shiva's feet from beneath her. She topples to the ground and into its waiting arms, where it wastes no time in sinking its teeth deep into her neck. Blood gushes freely from the pierced vein, while the fleder's own injury from Alaris rapidly closes.
Shiva takes 11 points of slashing damage and 11 points of necrotic damage to vigour. She also takes 1 point of piercing damage to wounds and her vigour max is reduced by 11 -> 7/21(37) Vigour, 12/13 Wounds, 1 Bleed
As the fleder's fangs sink into Shiva's neck, her vision goes blurry and colorful from the pain. With more of her blood taken, her body begins to go limp and she must force herself to remain lucid as she struggles against the monstrosity. Looking to Alaris, then Caio, she realizes that she has only one choice, and looks to Ling in her moment of fear and vulnerability. Grasping her blade as she reaches out once more, she disappears from the grasp of the fleder, sending searing electricity into every living entity in the immediate area. Reappearing next to Ling, she immediately sets to wrapping her neck wound that is already beginning to bleed profusely. She rips a portion of fabric from her top and loops it around her neck three times before making sure to tie it off directly on the wound to maintain pressure on the area.
"Well this is fun, isn't it." Shiva says to Ling with blatant sarcasm in her tone
Shiva’s thunder rocks Caio nearly off his feet, and a thin stream of blood trickles out from his clenched teeth. He swings again at the beast in front of him with dogged determination, but his stance is weak and his blows are haggard. The fleder in front of him receives only a small gash for the elf’s effort.
Ling gives Alaris a wide, ferocious grin at being called 'Princess of Shadows'. She turns back to the fleder and all air seems to escape her lungs when she sees Shiva being pulled to the ground, bitten, bleeding - but then she reappears beside her with a loud crack of thunder.Wordlessly, she helps Shiva address the wound on her neck and then, still without saying anything, quickly pulls her in for a hug. "Stay back here, we've got this!" She pushes Shiva into the alcove, stepping out in front of it, guarding her. Turning on the most-injured looking fleder, she conjures up images of heat and scorching light again while sending her shadows towards it. It shrieks in pain, but does not stay down.
Seeing Shiva suddenly appear nearby and looking a bit worse for wear, Astrid steps out of the shadows of the alcove. The cleric raises a hand toward the tiefling and invokes her healing magic. "Mend!" There is some force behind the simple word as she infuses the spell with some of her own life essence causing some visible strain on the dwarf.
She shuffles forward, negotiating the dead fleder in the hall. Before stepping into her hiding spot, she once again summons a wave a necrotic energy on the injured fleder. The effects of the spell are evident as the skin of the beast begins to slough off, producing a horrid stench of death.
Nikolai feels his stomach drop when the fleder suddenly swarm on Shiva and begin draining her vitals, but before he can think to rush to her aid there is another explosion that rips through the enclosed tunnels and leaves Nikolai's ears ringing. He lets out of sigh of relief as his oldest friend reappears nearby looking worse for wear, but alive. Knowing she is in good hands, he turns his attention back towards the immediate threat. He sights down the closest fleder, but just as he is about to release more of his eldritch power Caio and Alaris make quick work of most of them. He then turns his aim towards the last remaining monstrosity hiding in the alcove... 'Can't escape me, not even there beast.' His practiced hand moves Astra furora up as his lines up the sights on the creature and smoothly pulls the trigger twice in rapid succession! The first bolt of dark silver energy slams into the fleder's stomach and punctures through the thick skin with a shriek of pain! Unfortunately this also causes the beast to recoil in pain and the second bolt impacts with the stone wall behind it, sending a shower of broken stone skittering into the dark...
Alaris grunts as they absorb the blast of energy from Shiva's escape, but it is worth it to know their companion is free.
"Time to end this..." they murmur as the blade of their glaive plunges deep into the flesh of the prone fleder, seeking... seeking and finding the source of its twisted life.
"One more... Don't go anywhere, greymeat," the paladin growls as they pivot, generating torque and slamming a powerful blow from the butt end of the glaive into the fleder's torso.
A crackling burst of eldritch energy follows their blow, and Alaris shouts back, "Yes! More of that, please!"

The lone remaining fleder screams in pain as the eldritch blast drives a hole in its abdomen. Realising that it is is alone it turns and runs, fleeing back up the corridor.
The retreating beast doesn’t get far. Alaris is quickest to act, thrusting forward with their glaive and skewering the beast by the shin. It lets out a screech and struggles against the knight’s hold, but Caio’s blade is not far behind. The ragged elf nearly throws the heavy blade at the fleder, his body trailing behind with the momentum. The creature is impaled again, this time through the back of the thigh. A sickening crack follows as Caio wrenches the huge blade counter clockwise, separating meat from bone and sundering the beast’s femur.
As Caio, Alaris and Nik make quick work of the last fleder, Ling exhales and then shouts: "That's what you get! Ha!" She twirls her wrist a couple of times and the blood and guts from the baby fleder - which Nik had so chivalrously splattered all over her, -disappear. "Alright, better."
Turning away from the battle, she looks at Shiva again and checks her bandages. "You look a little worse for wear, do you want to go back to the inn and lie down for a while?" Giving Shiva a moment to gather herself and decide, she quickly checks the two stairwells and the area around them, but they appear to be safe for now. "It looks like we're all clear. I say we leave the weird insect demon to roman to its heart's content and get out of here. Collapse the tunnel, then let the ones in the church roast in daylight, if there are any left." She taps Sybaris on the floor, ready to get our of there. As she waits to see what the others think, Ling keeps glancing over to Astrid, covertly assessing the dwarf with furrowed brows.
There's a brief moment of silence as the last fleder falls and the rush of combat fades. Dark, glutinous blood oozes across the flagstones, seeping between the cracks, and the air reeks with the pungent stench of iron and old manure. A few fragments of masonry tumble from the walls to the ground, and the click clack of stone on stone echoes about the dark tunnel, sending up small clouds of dust that slowly drift back down through the thick subterranean air.
Wordlessly embracing Ling as she helps dress her wound, Shiva leans against the stone wall with labored breath. As Astrid provides further relief to her wounds she gives her a silent nod and smile, then turns to watch her companions tear the remaining fleders to shreds. When Ling returns from sweeping the immediate area, Shiva slowly stands, stretching her arms
"Nah, I'm alright hun, thanks for the help. You too, Astrid." She turns to regard the dwarf with appreciation before turning back to Ling "I could use a breather though, if everyone would be ok with that?"
After a moment of reflection, Shiva says "Didn't someone say that the bug thing was a demon from the Abyss? What the **** was it doing living inside of a giant manufactured monstrosity?"
Nikolai sticks close to Ling as she checks the stairwells. When he returns, he listens to Astrid's description of the daemon as he absently shuffles his Tarock deck. "No one is to venture too far from the group from here on out." He gives Ling a very sharp look. "That specifically means you, young Ling. These beasts are reproducing somehow.... This should not be possible, so we do not know how many of them could be down here. And with this infernal creature in the mix, I cannot say what more devilry is at work. We need to travel that daemon before Alaris' magic wear off and it summons the entire church of fleder down on our heads. Or, as Ling suggested we destroy these tunnels and blow the roof off the top of the church."
The sound of a long exhale comes from the dwarf when Caio and Alaris thoroughly dismantle the remaining fleder. The sound of rushing blood within her head begins to subside. Astrid smiles slightly and gives a nod back to Shiva. She slowly wanders aimlessly back-and-forth between the group's entrance and towards were the bug-like creature disappeared. "Aye," she replies to Shiva's question. "Not a demon, but a daemon. It is from somewhere between the Nine Hells and the Abyss. This particular one is called a mezzoloth. Generally, these things are more more sword-for-hire in nature, but I have no clue why it would have been inside that fleder it crawled out of."
She wanders over closer to Shiva. "I can help you out bit more if we're wanting to get going. You are looking a bit.... uh, drained." She points to her own neck to mirror where the tiefling took a massive bit from one of the beasts.
After the last fleder falls and their companions regroup, Alaris Forien makes their way to each pitiful fallen creature. With a firm swing of their blade, the paladin removes a fleder head. Softly, almost too softly to be heard, Alaris murmurs:
I do not strike with my hand. One who strikes with their hand has forgotten the Light of the Lady.
I strike with my self.
I do not hunt with my blade. One who hunts with their blade has forgotten the Light of the Lady.
I hunt with my mind.
I do not slay with my glaive. One who slays with their glaive has forgotten the Light of the Lady.
I slay with my soul.
A soft prayer, a ruthless cut, and on to the next corpse. Finally, when all is done, they splatter a few drops of holy water across the battle scene.
Be at peace, tormented ones. May the Lady take you into her everlasting embrace.
Returning to the group, Alaris removes their helm and runs their fingers through their hair and over their face. At first, they look gaunt... haggard even... eyes hollow and mournful. Then it is almost as if they literally wipe the expression of exhaustion off of their face. A gentle radiant glow emanates from between their fingers and when they look up again, they appear refreshed. They immediately turn to Shiva, worry now etched where frustration and hopelessness were moments before.
"Shivala? Are you well enough to continue? Can I help you?"

Caio looks quite winded as well as he wipes blood from his face and leans against a stone wall, dark eyes locked on the fleder. "I marked the fiend before it ran off. I could track it down easily. Though the job was really only to deal with the fleder, I am morbidly curious what the thing was doing inside one of the beasts. And there's no telling how many more there are."
Sitting up to regard Alaris, an intense wave of lethargy overtakes Shiva and she staggers backwards to rest against the wall once more. Her breathing once again labored, she quietly chuckles to herself.
"Seems that whatever that time dilation was has some aftereffects." After regaining her composure, she rejoins the conversation
"I'm alright to continue, thanks Alaris. I'm suddenly feeling more invigorated, actually."
She rolls her neck and rotates her shoulders, seemingly more spry than she was moments ago, "I suppose this is your doing, Astrid? And what you've said about this mezzoloth is quite polarizing, an abberation and yet a sword-for-hire. We seem to share a profession with it."
Astrid steps out from the alcove and see the wave of shadow engulf the fleder ahead of the others.
